The Cool Ruler live, 03 Feb 2008
Live in London in 1982, Gregory Isaacs is in good form with the great Roots Radics and Wally Badarou (synthesizers). His sensual yet cool vocals over the pulsating bass of Flabba Holt run through 11 recent and old (Love is overdue) hits. The big hits Soon forward and Number one alternate with solid versions of Mr. Brown and Ooh what a feeling. The enthusiastic crowd creates good vibes, as Gregory himself remarks. This 44'15 (short)cd lets us relive the magic of one of reggae's greats: Gregory Isaacs.

good compilation, 14 Apr 2007
There are so many Gregory Isaacs compilations now. This is partly because he was so prolific with so many labels, but mainly because of his smooth singing style and great songs. This one covers early 70's songs like 'Look before you leap' through to the famous 'Night Nurse', and most are well worth having. My favourites here include 'I Am Alright' (AKA 'Loving Pauper') and 'The Border'. For me it's worth the price just for 'Mr Know It All' - I've been long trying to replace my battered 1979 12" vinyl copy!

Front Line masterpiece, 27 Oct 2007
Gregory at his absolute best (OK save for Night Nurse). No weak tracks. Had the vinyl version when it first came out and it still sounds fresh today - brilliant chill out music from a great reggae vocalist.
A good set by Gregory Isaacs., 25 Feb 2002
This one is a good set GI recorded for Virgin in late 70's. Includes a couple of roots classics (Party in the Slum, Words of the Farmer etc.) but a couple of weaker ones too. The riddims are strong and Gregory's singing is close to the best in his career.

More Gregory less focus, 14 Mar 2007
I love this album. I bought the original LP and was excited to buy the remixed CD with the added bonus of the extra wonderful tracks. However, whoever remixed this needs to go back to remixing school. There is no sharpness and the bass just makes my speakers thud. This is a shame because each track is wonderful with Gregory on form with a sweet voice and a hard rythem to match. I also recently bought the remixed Night Nurse CD and this just sparkles through my system.
shame
This album should have been called "Classic Gregory", 02 Apr 2004
Gregory Isaacs is unquestionably one of the most important singers in reggae music. Along with other reggae singers such as Toots Hibbert, Ken Boothe, Dennis Brown, Delroy Wilson and Jacob Miller, Gregory Isaacs must rate as one of the all time great male vocalists from any genre of music. His singing on this album is brilliant. Listening to his singing gives you the impression that he has an effortless control. Smooth, almost lazy sounding, Gregory just glides along with the music. But it's not just the singing that deserve credit. Gregory also produced and arranged the album, with the exception of one track. The Roots Radics provide the backing on the majority of the album and prove yet again what an outstanding and underrated band they are. On the songs not backed by them, Gregory is accompanied by Sly & Robbie and the Taxi Gang. Not a bad bunch of replacements. Some of the songs on this album are updated versions of previous material. The Fugitive and Once Ago are examples of this. The standout tracks of the album are Hush Darling, The Fugitive and Once Ago, but in saying this none of the songs are poor. With a good mixture of love songs and reality lyrics this is a well balanced album that blends great vocals with tight backing from a great band. This is also a very accessible album, so people that don't know much about Gregory Isaacs or reggae can enjoy this as well as more hardened listeners. If you like this I would also suggest that you invest in a copy of The Best Of Volumes 1 and 2 (Heartbeat record label), Night Nurse, Mr Isaacs (Blood and Fire), Soon Forward and Cool Ruler albums as they are also classics.

Red Rose for Gregory, 22 Nov 2003
I have hunted for this CD for 12yrs and was over joyed to find it on Amazon. And it was just as I remembered.Gregory Isaacs is one of the best Reggae Artists ever. With his sweet velvet voice and up beat love songs he never disappoints but this CD to me is one of his best.Anyone with any interest in Reggae should buy this one and just listen. I'm by no means a Mills & Boon kind of gal in fact Im a devout Stones fan and can usually be found back in the 70s with Free or the Doors. Gregory is'nt The dog died and the roof fell in type love songs his Lyrics are wise and witty and some how on a another level. Definatly not music to slit your throat by.I'd just like to say a huge thank you to Amazon for having the good taste to stock this one. This will bring me hours if good memories of great times. Give it a go theres nothing to lose. Happy Listening "BUY" for now P Flamingo
