Dinner with Drac, 20 Nov 2006
Mainly a collection of vintage rock'n'roll which Ace specialize in but this is a sub genre which had its roots in such as Screammin' Jay Hawkins and John Zacherle-whose Dinner With Drac is on one of the Golden Age series.
The real classic here is Bobby Boris Pickett's Monster Mash and the CD starts off with an airshot of Pickett's speaking voice. It topped the charts in 1962 and finally made it to the U K in 1974.
Informative sleeve notes tell you who all these mostly failed recording artists were and the title is brilliant
Fiendishly frightening monster rockin', 16 May 2006
Oh dear, if only my fellow reviewer had read what it says on the sleeve of this CD! This is another ghoulish classic from the vaults of ACE records. A fine mixture of Doo Wop, Rock 'n' Roll and just a pinch of Frat Rock...and who could turn down a novelty Frankenstein song or two! Pull you sweetheart close and get ready for some spooky sounds from the crypt. Go-Go Dracula Go!
Not what we expected, 05 Jan 2006
We thought we would get something to add to our Halloween party music stash, but this CD is something that frankly we will never use. Maybe for adults with an interest in this genre or "classic" horror film buffs this would be good, but not the casual listener and certainly not someone with kid's parties in mind.

A brilliant, original album for kids, 11 Oct 2007
I bought this album for my kids last year and they liked it so much they only stopped playing it a few months ago! As well as imaginative interpretations of Halloween classics like 'Monster Mash' and 'Ghostbusters' sung by witches and ghouls, the album also features two fantastic original compositions called 'Spooky Boogie' and 'Hello Halloween', which my kids absolutely love. To top it all off there's a scary story and 20 minutes of spooky sound effects, which are great as background atmosphere for party games. Brilliant value!

Product Description
Gold assembled a handful of knowns and unknowns to make special cameos on this melodic and fun collection of original and classic Halloween tunes with a pop-rock bent. Among the haunted are David Cassidy, Karla Bonoff, Linda Ronstadt, Stephen Bishop, Nicolette Larson, and Gold's children and wife. From the Beatlesesque touches of "It Must Be Halloween" (parts seemingly lifted from "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite") to Boris Karloff's "Monster Mash" and "The Addams Family" theme song, Gold and company offer up treats that kids and their parents will like, including the "Ghostbusters" theme. But with cooler original fare like "The Creature from the Tub" and "Spooky, Scary Skeletons," you have to wonder why they relied on so many predictable cover songs. --Martin Keller

Product Description
Leave it to Rhino Records to come up with the best party music for Halloween rave-ups. In contrast to New Wave Halloween, this set of 10 tunes is aimed squarely at the family listening environment. "Monster Mash," sung by Bobby Pickett and the Crypt-Kickers, is a hoot decades after its origin. And Screamin' Jay Hawkins's "I Put a Spell on You" is aptly eerie, if not a tad funny in this setting--considering that "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" comes after and the Addams Family theme comes before. And lest you think this set of tunes is mired in the depths of Halloween tunes from generations ago, it also has "Ghostbusters"--which reeks of datedness anywhere but here. --Andrew Bartlett

Halloween Sound Effects, 03 Jan 2004
This type of cd is quite a specialist thing, there are not many people out there who want a disk full of sound effects unless they have specific use for them, i myself am a practising all be it amatueur musician (hopefully proffesional one day) so for me a very valuable tool. Most of the samples are good, although the alien type samples seem a little miss-placed for a collection of horror sound effects and really should'nt be in there at all. These sound effects for me will only come to life once woven into my very heavy metal music which will give the music a new level of horror and ambience

total waste of money, 15 Feb 2008
When i saw this advertised i thought it was a good buy,but when i bought it and listened to it i realised i had wasted my money. The sound effects are all totally pathetic and useless, unsuitable for any home film maker.
DO NOT BUY THIS CD .
Rude & Crude Sound Effects - Rude, Crude, and Poor Quality, 09 Jul 2007
As a long time collector of Sound Effects; I'm always on the look out for sounds to add to the collection.
This CD only cost me just over £3 GBP - and that's shipped over from the USA - so I can't complain at the cost.
Sadly, however, this particular collection isn't really worth £1 - let alone £3!
Yes - you get '97' sets of sounds, usually more than 1 single sound per set; or at least a sound 'repeated' 3 or 4 times.
But the quality of ALL tracks / sounds is VERY POOR indeed. All seem to be mono; all seem to have been washed through some form of 'mild-echo & distortion' electronic processing which is - presumably - designed to make the sounds appear far more modern and fresh than they actually are?
The actual result though is to make many of the sounds virtually `unusable' (by themselves); although you might be able to salvage something by mixing them with others.
I've nothing really to say on the 'content' - the information presented in the Amazon Item Description (Track Listing) is entirely accurate, and in that respect you get what you pay for!
Those of you requiring an 'Elephant Fart' will get just that (or an electronic approximation to it!); while some sounds are clearly lifted from film or TV soundtracks.
For example, Track 34 - 'Ekki' - is the revised sacred words uttered by the 'Knights Who Were until Recently Called Nic' from the 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' film soundtrack (do the Python's know about this?). Funny - well yes, in the film context - usable outside this context: NO - and (again) very poorly recorded and presented.
To be totally fair, this CD isn't an entire `Drinks Coaster' Write-Off; it's a close thing; but there are perhaps 6 sounds out of the 97 which I could actually see myself using at some point - so this then means that - in real terms - I've paid approx. 50p per sound for this privilege!
All-in-all then; unless there is a sound on this CD you MUST have for your production or collection - AND you have previewed the track FIRST so you know exactly what you get when you play your much sort-after Track 90 - 'Vomit 1'; I must advise you to pass on this CD, and hang on to your hard earned cash.
Go spend the £3 on a high-street mass-market Cheeseburger Meal - the satisfaction and effects will be no worse than purchasing and playing this CD for the same money. If you're lucky and the Cheeseburger has it's usually effects; record the resulting as `Vomit 1' - it will be far more realistic than the equivalent sound effect(s) presented here!
