relaxing and tranquil!, 23 Jul 2008
sorry to see that this CD has got a bad review as I think it is wonderful. My son can't go to sleep without it, it really helps him to relax and unwind. I think the fact that it isn't the original version is good, as the tracks are shorter and don't get too loud which is often the case with classical music. I really like listening to it too, I think it is well made!
Fantastic, 22 Mar 2008
Have played this CD at bedtime for my daughter since she was born and have found it very calming, perfect as part of her bedtime routine. I believe that she enjoys the music and has learnt to associate the CD with winding down. I think the CD is a lovely introduction to classical music, with the individual tracks being short and played in a perfect style for little ears. I really recommend it.
nice, easy listening, 27 Feb 2008
i found the CD nice to listen to, never been a gerat lover of classical music but this CD is calming and relaxing. i play the CD at bath time and at night when winding down. my daughter seems to like it as much as her nursery rhymes. i think this CD would be nice to listen to when you are pregnant. i think it is a nice introduction to classical music.
Oh dear..., 22 Feb 2008
None of the music on this CD is as you will have heard it before, sadly it has been ruined and made into Musak or 'elevator music' which I personally find irritating in the extreme.
I've tried playing it through a few of times, hoping that my son might get some enjoyment out of it even if I couldnt, but he seems uninterested and to be honest I'm glad, it doesnt get any better with time and now its gathering dust.
Really disappointed! Stick to the real thing!

Great CD, thoroughly recommend it!, 18 Jun 2008
Bought this CD after reading the positive reviews and I'm really glad I did. Our 2-year-old girl loves it and despite playing it over and over again we haven't got fed up with it, which is praise indeed!
Disagree with the reviewer who didn't like the male vocalist's voice. I think it's a pleasant change to hear an English accent with perfect diction.
Great opening track which gets our daughter dancing and our feet tapping immediately!
Really not that good or different, 27 May 2008
I bought this album as a result of all the positive reviews. However, I don't agree with them. Yes, there is a very slight 'twist' in that some of the songs start with different beats or musical styles. BUT, the nursery rhymes are sung by two annoyingly 'stage school' sounding singers, particularly the chap. His voice is so irritating that I can't listen to it. Plus they are basically the same as the much cheaper, but much better, BBC nursery rhyme albums I bought.
A waste of money as it isn't really any different. Buy 'Colours Are Brighter' if you want a truly alternative childs album or any of the They Might be Giant CDs.
Lana Nimmo, 16 Mar 2008
It's great and cheerful and our one year old daughter loves dancing to it. It also is the kind of CD that does not drive the parents insane when listening to it again and again. I thoroughly recommend it.
The Best Nursery Rhyme CD, 11 Oct 2007
This is quite simply the best nursery rhyme CD I have heard. All of the songs are really fun and the whole family loves to listen to it. Top marks!
Oxbridge baby nursery rhymes , 29 Aug 2007
We were pleased with this CD. The music is played and sung well, and I can't see it getting on our nerves for quite some time. There is one reviewer who said he was worried that his child would look silly at school because the melodies are so different, but they seem to be quite close to the originals (as I remember them) to me. Anyway, children learn quickly so it wouldn't be too much of a problem. The only drawbacks are the cost of this and the fact that there's no song sheet inside for all those parents who've forgotten the lyrics. On the whole though, worth having.

I bought this because I didn't remember any nursery rhymes and wanted to sing them with my daughter. It arrived in a double CD case and I thought 'oh good'. Only to find it's one CD of half finished songs. 10 green bottles finishes at 6, Nelly the elephant has no second verse, I could go on. Save your money on this one.
Quantity not Quality, 28 May 2007
I have been looking at the best albums for children and have seen this title is there quite a lot. Well don't be fooled, I have a copy and although there are loads of nursery rhymes on it you really wouldn't want to listen to many of them.
Boring is one word that describes this album. It is a shame that the people who make these kind of things think they can put loads of titles onto a CD and that will make it good, it doesn't!!!
Very Enjoyable, 13 May 2007
I have been enjoying playing this cd to entertain our new baby and particularly like the fact that it came with a booklet of words so I can learn them all!!
Brilliant, 09 Mar 2007
My son likes this and I play it at the mother & toddler group I run. Songs are in various styles and children won't get bored listening. Grown ups would like the songs too, as you even have a 'Tony Bennett like' voice singing one of the songs.

This was bought for my second child, who is now 2, but my 5 year old found it in the cd rack and wanted to listen to it, she loves it and insits on putting it on every night, she says it helps her to go to sleep! (and it does, I don't think she has even listened to the last few tracks as she is asleep before the end) Looking to buy some more now!
mad about mozart, 01 Aug 2008
I hated this at first, it is totally pared down mozart- and played it only on headphones to the foetus. Now he is born, we both absolutely love it and often it soothes me more than baby!!!

Time to relax, 12 May 2008
A lovely 2CD Classic FM compilation of relaxing music - for mothers as much as their babies - consisting of an interesting assortment of baroque, classical, romantic and modern music with the underlying theme of aiming to relax the listener.
Some pieces are chosen partly for their title as well as the soothing effect they have, these include the 'Lullaby' by Brahms and 'The Swan' from 'Carnival of the Animals' by Saint-Saens. The more contemporary offerings are by popular composers such as Patrick Hawes. These are good recordings, as expected by Classic FM, many of which will be comfortably familiar to most of the radio shows listeners.
Comfortably safe by Classic FM maybe, but comfortably relaxing too.

Irritating cd, 22 Feb 2008
This sounded like a great buy initially. My baby boy loves songs but although there are 100 of them, you can't select which one you want to listen to. It only comes in two sections and to hear a popular song, you have to plough through an irritating selection of spoken rhymes. I've given up trying to listen to it now.
Poor CD, 07 Feb 2007
Most of the nursery rhymes and songs are incomplete as only one verse is played
Old fashion Nursery Rhymes, 17 Feb 2003
The cd was a bit of a dissapointment. The voice used for the nursery rhymes was very annoying (the baby started to cry!). The quality of the recording was quite poor.

relaxing and tranquil!, 23 Jul 2008
sorry to see that this CD has got a bad review as I think it is wonderful.
Oh dear, 03 Sep 2007
Great, even for older children, 31 Aug 2008

Our whole family loves this cd.My daughter (3,5) loves to dance to "real" music and this is it!The makers really connect with what children like in a not childish way.And on top of that the music grooves and the singing is great!Fantastic! As soon as this cd is playing there's a party in the house.
Thank you for making a children cd with respect for the kids! And with so much quality on many levels!
Funky Tunes for kids, 03 Mar 2008
Sick to death of the usual boring nursery rhymes and watered down 'pop' tunes for kids it was so refreshing to find something a little bit different. Big Songs for Little Ones is not like any kids CD you've ever heard before. I imagine for the two negative reviewers below it was just too far out of their comfort zone! Don't buy this CD if you like the dull ELC CD's for kids. DO buy this CD if you want to expose your baby or child to something different and make your car journeys a little bit more fun!
Amandas action Kids Big songs for little ones, 27 Feb 2008
I bought this cd for my two girls and when we put it on we just had a great time dancing around, not only did we all know the songs but the music is fab too. It really gives you a feel good factor and I never get sick of hearing it. It really is for grown ups too. On looking and reading a previous review I felt so strongly that I had to write how great it is, For the record I am not a friend only a fan as are my kids of the music.
Read this review before buying this CD, 20 Nov 2007
Not one to complain for no reason I felt I should comment on this pretty bad CD. I, like 3 other mums I know, bought this CD based on the reviews we read here and have all been very let down. The only true review says that it sounds like their child made the music and that is very true. It is annoying and has not amused any child I know.
The reviews on amazon all look like they have been written by people who have never heard the album. Also there have been 11 reviews in the past month which seems very strange to anyone who buys stuff on amazon. That many great reviews for a childrens CD? I can only think the makers friends like to post positive comments.
Wonderful Christmas Gift, 12 Nov 2007
I've finally found the perfect Christmas gift for my nieces and nephews. Of course, I listen to the CD myself, but I get to use them as the excuse!

Sleepytime Lullabies, 18 Nov 2008
I bought Sleepytime Lullabies for my daughter who has recently had a baby, thinking it would help get him into a good sleep routine. Not only has it worked but his two year old sister responds as well!
The little girl enters into the routine as if it is a game, only to be lulled as the tempo of the music changes into more tranquil songs which induce sleep.Baby, perhaps responding to sound of the heart and womb sounds which he heard so recently, seems to love the gentle, soothing singing.
My daughter says that she and her husbsnd enjoy the evenings to themselves.
Excellent, 29 Oct 2008
Excellent CD really worth the money - it may only be a few songs but thats all that is needed and my daughter is fast asleep well before the CD finishes - it wasnt like that prior to purchasing this! Would highly recommend to any parent.
Deserves a broader audience, 27 Oct 2008
This is obviously a specialised product with a specific purpose, but from the moment you hear Nicola Kerr's extraordinary singing voice you realise these are tracks for everyone, not just children. It's long overdue for this artiste to produce her own solo album and get to the top of the charts where she deserves.
Number one on any grans list, 01 Sep 2008
This delightfull, cd is an absolute must for any carers of small children. I have soothed my grand daughter on her over night stays, and am now buying another copy for my son's newly expected arival.
peace at long last!!!, 27 May 2008
not a typical cd to get a reply from a bloke but we need sleep like the rest!!! my wife had a recommendation that this was a 'wee gem' and got me to order it. We seem to have just got over the baby sleeping stage before our toddler grew out of her nursery and had to be moved to a bigger room with the obvious disturbances. After a few weeks, i'd agree to anything! I can honestly say that after a few songs our daughter is fast asleep for the whole night and even on stressful days when she needs a nap, i just play it in the car for her and it soothes her straight away. Well done and thank you for a happy wife and my footie back!!

Andersen's Fairy Tales 1 - Not For Every Child!, 31 May 2006
Two stories are truly gruesome and VERY violent. Not prince overthrowing dragon in woods to save princess, gruesome and violent. I mean creeping envy, revenge and sadistic murder of an elderly lady and a young boy (amongst other things)!
DEFINITELY NOT for all children by any means. Just had to add this review so more critical (discerning?) parents could be warned if needed.
The remaining stories are great. However, The Little Match Girl is very, very sad! But, so true to how some children today must struggle while those with far more than they need walk by. A deeply poignant tale.
We were very disappointed BUT only with the two rotten ones. I've recorded the fabulous ones and chucked the discs away. Erica Johns reads beautifully. Crystal clear cheeky sounding voice. Smashing.
This double disc set contains readings of The Emperor's New Clothes (excellent!), The Tinderbox (not okay with us), the Travelling Companion, The Ugly Duckling, The Little Match Girl (sob, sob), The Swineherd and Big Claus and Little Claus (Very disturbing!).
Good old fashioned fairy stories, read with panache!!, 27 Jul 2001
The characterisation of human and animals personalities is finely crafted, and has immediate appeal. Thoroughly recommended, particularly for 7-9 year olds.

Customer Reviews
relaxing and tranquil!, 23 Jul 2008
sorry to see that this CD has got a bad review as I think it is wonderful.
Oh dear, 03 Sep 2007
Great, even for older children, 31 Aug 2008
The quality of the recording was quite poor.
what a joy!, 06 Jun 2008
