I'll echo all the positives, 07 Nov 2008
Agree with most of the reviews listed. If, like me, you went to Uni in the early 90's and have been a fan of that genre ever since you'll have almost grown up with Nick Bracegirdle's music and all the myriad offferings it inspired and spawned
From the days of saltwater to the excellent maddening crowds CD, his music has always evolved, always delivered and always impressed
Keep it up for another 10 years Nick ..
Ahhh - Finally! , 20 Oct 2008
It's 1997, my TV's switched on and I'm watching MTV. A song is just starting, but the name hasn't appeared yet. I hear a very low hum, which starts picking up a beat and a beach appears... The title of the song and artis come up, one that i have never heard before but that will mark a new era in music history: Chicane - Saltwater.
It blew me away. i still remember seeing the woman on the beach (from a bird's eye kind of view) and the sun reflected on the sand & water. The beat, the melody, the tune, it was AWESOME and i could not cope without the CD! Before all my cd's got stolen (at gatwick airport FYI) i had all the Chicane CD's.
When I saw this CD advertised the other day I was astonished, I actually leaped up from the sofa and shouted "CHICANE!!!! THAT'S MY FAVOURITE DJ!" and my girlfriend just nodded, wondering what i was on. Clearly, I bought the CD and now she listens to it more than I do.
Even though this is an awesome compliation, the other CD's remain a must have for two reasons: 1) they're all awesome, and 2) anyone who likes this sort of music respects Chicane and will want to have every piece of work this man has ever published.
Thank you for an awesome 11 years!!!
Okay, 14 Oct 2008
I was and always have been a fan, but listening to this CD makes me realise why I don't listen to them all that much anymore - from '96 to present, unless you know their music, you can't tell which ones are from '96 and which are new as the sound never changes. Back in '96, it was new and fresh, but now it all just sounds dated.
While other artists from the same era, BT, Hybrid, Way Out West and so on developed, Chicane just stood where they were. (To be fair, BT went off to a different planet, but at least he developed). And let's be honest, would they have had the success without help from Bryan Adams halfway through their career and all their other collaborations?
As for the CD - the 12" of Saltwater should have been included, not the 3:22 edit and where is Strong in Love with Sylvia Mason James and the decent Disco Citizens mix of Sunstroke?
Giving this 3 stars instead of 2 as it does contain the original 12" of Offshore, and not that god awful Offshore 97..

Let me just start by saying i like Chicane. The album far from the maddening crowds wasn't a let down when i bought it after hearing and falling in love with Offshore (all those years ago!). Behind the sun was an amazing follow up album too and both have been in my favourites ever since. But Nicks later stuff didn't quite reach the same standard as far as i'm concerned. Then i saw this best of album coming out and i was interested to see what tracks would be chosen. Half the tracks i'd not even heard before so i was sceptical as i assumed it would be like the newer stuff that i dont really like. I was wrong. I dont know where i got the idea his new stuff was pants coz i like every track on this album. I'd never heard the Tom jones track before, thats banging. Spirit is ledge. And with the classics such as offshore and sunstroke its quality. If you just like a tune or 2 of chicanes get this album as i bet you'll become a huge fan after listening to it. One pitfall with it though is that it hasnt got autumn tactics on it. Why the hell not??? Best tune ever, never mind best Chicane song ever!! Anyway i'll shut up now, buy it!!
Fantastic Album - A complete must have!!, 11 Oct 2008
I bought this album today and all I can say is it is simply fantastic - I had no idea Chicane had so many well known tracks. I won't ever tire of listening to this cd - it has brought back loads of happy memories!!

Mixing goes from quite good to terrible..., 21 May 2008
I buy dance compilations primarily to listen to good mixing between (good) tracks. The track selection on this package isn't awful, OK there are some tracks that perhaps shouldn't be there, but what annoys me slightly is the total lack of any careful mixing between tracks. Some transitions are as smooth as silk, whereas others are a simple fade down and fade up which all takes place in about 3 seconds, or just a crash edit, which I find defeats the point of buying an album such as this.
When will MOS return to letting actual named DJ's mix their output?
Adequate for someone who likes chart dance music, 26 Mar 2008
It bemuses me why negative comments towards most dance compilations always say 'same stuff repackaged' - dont buy it then!! The song lists are provided beforehand to give you an idea of what songs and genres are included. This compilation, though not the best for someone who prefers less commercial music is good to put on in the background or in the car. It serves its purpose well.
Pretty good, 20 Mar 2008
Very good for exercise classes/ aerobics!
This is what to buy it for; definatly not easy listening!
mos anthems, 04 Mar 2008
the first cd i didnt know any of the songs. the third is rubbish, the second is the only one i rate with good dance classics which give you the friday feeling. all in all, expensive for one good cd!
Naff, 19 Feb 2008
I have to aggree with most of the others, Most of the songs are good all round classics but its jst not any different to the albums they have released in the past.
Its not worth the money as if you look hard enough in your CD collection you probably have them all already

I have to say that hed kandi have done a great job here they really have captured the sounds of ibiza this year! Unlike ministry who seem to just use the word ibiza for some kind of commercial gain and slap anything together and sometimes its debateble if it has been mixed at all. If your'e wanting cd's that represent ibiza this year with precision mixing you'll not go wrong here an allround top mix from start to finish... Wait for the sun to shine (it will one day) grab a cold beer and get in the garden with the tunes on and you'd think you were on bora bora beach ;) Niiiiiiice!
RIGHT ON THE MONEY KANDI!!, 09 Sep 2008
I was a little skeptical about their being two world series releases this year as we already had a recent installment from San Francisco. I love this series as it gives HK a chance to break away from its traditional mould, and present a more international sound... and this edition does just this and with great conviction.
The artwork is amazing and everything is presented in its usual luxurious style. Each mix has something special to offer... I think disk one is probably more on the tip of what you would hear late into the night at El Divino but there are elements and winks back to the Kandi camp running right throughout the compilation.
The John Jones mix is a total winner for me fitting more to my taste of some proper funky but tough house music that i was hearing when i was in Ibiza back in july.
In a sea of ibiza compilations that you can buy i would probably say this is my favourite of this year. Absolutely superb!

Consistent quality, 29 Sep 2008
I agree that MOS are always just re-hashing old classics, again and again and again. But this album is better than that! Besides, if you have all these tracks already - don't buy it!
But this compilation has a lot more integrity than all the other "churners". There are quite a few tracks that you wouldn't expect - it's not all commercial at all. Also, the album remains consistently enjoyable. Many other MOS CD's seem to start with great tunes, and then fade into a load of "filler" tracks - just there to pad the CD out. This one doesn't!
I have a fair few chill out albums, and this one includes many of the best tracks from those. It's a great album, very enjoyable - I bought it for myself and 2 other friends! I definitely recommend it!
Smooth, 10 Aug 2008
I was actually going to make exactly the point that Mr Hunter made about this album. "If you have bought previous chillout albums before, then it's fairly pointless you buying this." However, if like me you haven't, then it's very much worth the purchase.
I have had a void in my musical collection - I have the most chilled of chillout from the likes of Enya up to my ears, and I have the most banging of trance that the likes of MoS have dished out for years up to higher than my hair. However, chillout from general artists I didn't have a great deal of. This album has pretty much filled that void.
Ignoring what was on past albums for a moment, this album does contain an excellent choice of songs that fulfill your chillout needs from the hypnotic, to the uplifting, to the actually quite funky and lively... albeit never straying from what these days is known as 'chillout.'
I've found it is great to listen to when doing work, relaxing, or just generally... it won't get a party started but it will suit many other home-held events.
Basically my point is this - don't buy if it you have the songs, buy it if you don't. Quite simple, really.
Too many fillers!, 22 Jun 2008
The tracks that stand out as 'chilled' music are great!
Not enough of them. Many fillers, some i hadn't heard before, and for good reason, they either were not 'chilled' music or/and not easy to listen to at all. This really should be 2 discs, and be done with the unknown and unchilled.
Frozen, 20 Jun 2008
If you do not have all the tracks on back catologue like me. This is a good compilation album.
disaapointing.., 14 Jun 2008
Okay well first of all I dont condone piracy - BUT - this box set pretty much shows why people do go out and download stuff off the net.
The songs, majority of them, arent very good. The advert you see on the TV plays probably the best ones from the album, and the rest are just there to "fluff out" the discs.
The mixing leaves a lot to be desired - I mean seriously are they cutting back on staff and just hiring a monkey that knows how to press a "fade to next song now" button?? there is no actual mixing going on, its just basically one songs volume gets turned down, and the next one gets turned up.
Very dissapointed with MOS, theyre just trying to cash in and unfortunately theyre managing to do it. There used to be a time when MOS was respected to produce decent mixes and decent albums.. not any more.
If they dont want people to keep their money in their pockets and download stuff for free off the net - they need to make sure they put time and effort into creating something decent that is worth the money.. this has failed to impress.

Get involved., 12 Oct 2008
BUY BUY BUY!, 18 Sep 2008
Keeps up the high standards, 29 Oct 2008
As you may gather from this review title, I bought this simply because I have all the other CDs in this series.
So, what's new? Very little, which if you like this type of music is a GOOD THING. A superb selection of grooves and tracks. If I'm being super-critical, theres a couple of tracks near the start of the album which I feel don't quite work or are a little weak, but once it gets moving it does what all the Hotel Costes CDs do - make you feel good.
Maybe not the strongest in every department out of all the Hotel Costes CDs, but nowhere near the worst. Perfect for when you have a few firends around chatting, for chilled nights in or for Sunday morning pick-me-up. Highly recommend.

Cant write enough good comment5 about this album, top mix and epic production!!!!!!
BUY IT NOW
excellent , 14 Nov 2008
debut release from the mau5, a great mix of original progressive house with some more mainstream funky/ambient stuff thrown in. Best feature of the album for me is the sound quality itself, the production is top notch - EPIC!
Stunning, 01 Nov 2008
This is the best house CD I have heard in a very long time. The continuous mix at the end of the CD is what it's all about. Saw him play at the Space closing and this is even better. I can't recommend it enough.
:-) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! :-), 30 Oct 2008
Deadmau5 has produced and remixed quite a lot of choons on the dance scene over the last couple of years. This album release has come at the right time where, to his credit, he is now recognised as a serious and "in demand" producer/remixer who has his own style and distinct sound.
The album is a mixed album of Deadmau5's most recognised choons. If you have never heard his material, I would describe it as minimal, melodic progressive house that sounds very warm and bouncey - not cheesey!
For me the best tracks are Brazil, Alone With You, Not Exactly, Faxing Berlin and Arguru.
If you want a banging hard sounding album then this is not for you. But if you want a more chilled and well produced sound that teases the listener in places then go for it.
The reason I gave this a 4 Star is because not everybody likes a mixed album of one particular artist. Having said that, this album works the way it is and I personally prefer it this way.
If you like a bit of minimal proggy stuff then I can't recommend this high enough! Tip Top!! :-)

Product Description
Managing--sort of--to keep within the Pet Shop Boys tradition of one-word album titles, the moniker of this latest best-of, PopArt, is typical of the band--arrogant and somewhat pretentious yet also tongue-in-cheek and slyly self-aware. All the 35 tracks on these two CDs are indeed both pop and art and rather than being in chronological order have been split in fairly arbitrary fashion across a "Pop" and, erm, an "Art" disc. The band are doubtless well aware that much heated discussion will take place among fans about which track belongs where, and indeed, as evidenced on the commentary of the accompanying DVD, squabbled about the splits themselves when compiling this release. Philosophical debates aside, this is an absolutely essential collection for anyone who enjoys the Pet Shop Boys' unique mix of bittersweet poignancy, archness and occasional high camp--or indeed for any discerning pop (or art) fan. Encompassing almost all their single releases (only "Was It Worth It?" and "How Can You Expect To Be Taken Seriously?" are missing), this is a glorious retrospective of one of Britain's finest pop institutions. Let's hope there are another 35 singles half this good for a quadruple box set in another 18 years' time. --Rikki Price

the first cd i didnt know any of the songs. the third is rubbish, the second is the only one i rate with good dance classics which give you the friday feeling. all in all, expensive for one good cd! Naff, 19 Feb 2008
I have to aggree with most of the others, Most of the songs are good all round classics but its jst not any different to the albums they have released in the past.
Its not worth the money as if you look hard enough in your CD collection you probably have them all already BUY BUY BUY!, 18 Sep 2008
Album of the Year, 15 Nov 2008
Cant write enough good comment5 about this album, top mix and epic production!!!!!!
BUY IT NOW excellent , 14 Nov 2008
debut release from the mau5, a great mix of original progressive house with some more mainstream funky/ambient stuff thrown in.
Tip Top!! :-) All their hits & more, 18 Mar 2008
This great two disc album from the Pet Shop Boys contains thirty five of the duos greatest songs. All of the Pet Shop Boys biggest hits, such as `Go West' and `West End Girls' are included as well as some that I hadn't heard before buying this album but they are all very enjoyable. My favourite song from the album though is the relatively resent `Flamboyant' and in all honesty it was this song that encouraged me to get the album in the first place. The one slight criticism of this album is that all of the truly great songs from the Pet Shop Boys could have easily fitted onto one CD rather but this is only a slight annoyance and even the songs presented here that are less that stunning are still a cut above much of the music released today. This album is great and would be of most interest to people who like the Pet Shop Boys but do not have own of their music. Pop gold, 02 Jul 2006
Every track a classic, not a weak song on the album.
Totally recommend for your IPOD/MP3 for the gym Contemporary music simply doesn't get better - fact., 22 Jan 2006
For a general concensus on Pet Shop Boys see popjustice.com. They have quite simply voiced the views about Pet Shop Boys' indelible print on popular music by rating all their previous albums that mostly rate above a ten (out of ten,) whilst acknowledging that their recent output only appears to be, at worst, "as good as anything else ever". Well, if you have a double cd that includes 35 tracks - ALL of which managaed to get in to the UK (and most other countries') top 20 and yet they still have a reputation and respect as they maintain (and i am talking about being on a Kate Bush scale here,)then this is not bad going. The fact they are gay is completey inconsequential as their lyrics are, largely ambiguous, thereby giving the listener a feeling of identity like no other band, especially on views of loves, lost and lamented. Their humour is also a blessing without ever falling in to that Weird Al Yancovick category. Unfortunately they are till very underrated - in the UK for being so popular (which is never cool, is it?) and in the US (for not being Depeche Mode). They are still compared with bands like Erasure and New Order. Whilst New Order are also gods (but of rock and of history)and Erasure can knock out the occasional good tune (even if it is a little too sickening with Andy Bell singing it in a gold body stocking,)they are by vitue of their talent, wit, humour and sense of self deprecation, miles better than Erasure and half a mile better than New Order. There are not many bands who can say they have worked with Bowie, Dusty Springfield, Blur, Rammstein, Madonna, Robbie Williams and Liza Minnelli. Truly a great pop institution. All the best..., 19 Dec 2005
Despite being advertised as a Japanese version, this is in fact the same configuration as the North American release of the PopArt CD with a bonus CD. There are several versions of this with minor variations and extra tracks, so be advised to check the listings carefully for the song-selections and tracks. This one includes a book (as have most PSB Japanese offerings) with lyrics and such, but that is the only difference. The first of the discs of this 'Greatest Hits' for the Pet Shop Boys contains 17 tracks (Pop), and the second 18 tracks (Art). For those who are die-hard fans of the Pet Shop Boys, this is a must have, but, for the most part, those fans will find it is in many ways an already-have. The tracks are remastered, but given the high production qualities of most PSB discs generally, there isn't a great deal to be gained from this. There are two new songs, Miracles and Flamboyant (one on each disc), which are both wonderful (and, interestingly, the addition of two songs to the 'greatest hits' compilation matches their performance with Discography, which also had a 'best of' with two new tracks added). There are the major songs and single releases from all previous albums, so this serves both as a retrospective but also as a handy all-in-one collection spanning the history of the Pet Shop Boys; from that perspective, if you were to have just one CD from them, this would the one. The songs are not in chronological release order (as Discography was), but rather seem almost randomly arranged; all songs but one from Discography are here, with an additional collection of tracks from the later album releases that reached the UK top 20. The division between 'Pop' and 'Art' is subtle, and any lifelong fan will have his or her own impressions as to which songs should fit into which category. The 'Pop' side is more disco/dance music, whereas the 'Art' side is a little more sombre, and the lyrics a little more complex. On the other hand, some songs, such as 'Love comes quickly' would easily qualify for either designation. This collection represents more than 20 years work on the part of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe. For the first several years of that career, they were famous world-wide, and quite a staple in the dance clubs and video programming in America and elsewhere. The first singles collection 'Discography' represented the beginning of the decline of 80s style dance music in America, but the music descended from this type remained strongly popular throughout the rest of the world, as the sold-out concert tours of the Pet Shop Boys everywhere except North America attests to. Many of the songs on this 'Pop-Art' collection will therefore be new to audiences whose interest in the Pet Shop Boys ended the hits from the 'Behaviour' era. The bonus disc offers remixes of songs from the other discs, and tracks from B-sides and other tracks from the 'major' albums. Pop-Art is a must-have for anyone who likes dance music, disco, electronic music, 80s music, the Pet Shop Boys, or who wants to have a complete music collection, but only one version is likely necessary.
A brilliant and timely collection...., 12 Jul 2005
This collection updates the earlier Discography and takes the story up to then end of 2003... And what a story it has been. Pet Shop Boys have been the most consistantly brilliant and intelligent pop groups of the last twenty years. There were many other pop groups during that period, but none can match PSB for wit, depth or melodic genius. This collection contains almost all of their singles. The obvious omissions are "How Can You Expect to be Taken Seriously" (a pity as it's very different to the album version - and there is room on the CDs for at least two more tracks), Was it Worth It? (likewise, it's not a classic but it was quite fun) and Absolutely Fabulous (no great loss, it's a novelty throwaway). It is difficult to pick out personal faves from this collection (so many great tracks) but for me You Only Tell Me..., It's a Sin, Being Boring, Red Letter Day, Liberation and I Wouldn't Normally Do This Kind of Thing are obvious stand outs... Signs are the PSB are past their peak now (that occurred with the brilliant Very album) but that doesn't affect this collection...
If you don't have the albums then this is a great value purchase that you will not regret.
If you do own the albums (as I do) then it is nice to have all of the hits in one place...

The best of Sash!, 14 Nov 2008
if your a Sash! fan then this album is a must even if you have the albums the remix is ace well worth the price of the album The Best Of
I'll echo all the positives, 07 Nov 2008
Get involved., 12 Oct 2008
