I'll echo all the positives, 07 Nov 2008
Agree with most of the reviews listed. If, like me, you went to Uni in the early 90's and have been a fan of that genre ever since you'll have almost grown up with Nick Bracegirdle's music and all the myriad offferings it inspired and spawned
From the days of saltwater to the excellent maddening crowds CD, his music has always evolved, always delivered and always impressed
Keep it up for another 10 years Nick ..
Ahhh - Finally! , 20 Oct 2008
It's 1997, my TV's switched on and I'm watching MTV. A song is just starting, but the name hasn't appeared yet. I hear a very low hum, which starts picking up a beat and a beach appears... The title of the song and artis come up, one that i have never heard before but that will mark a new era in music history: Chicane - Saltwater.
It blew me away. i still remember seeing the woman on the beach (from a bird's eye kind of view) and the sun reflected on the sand & water. The beat, the melody, the tune, it was AWESOME and i could not cope without the CD! Before all my cd's got stolen (at gatwick airport FYI) i had all the Chicane CD's.
When I saw this CD advertised the other day I was astonished, I actually leaped up from the sofa and shouted "CHICANE!!!! THAT'S MY FAVOURITE DJ!" and my girlfriend just nodded, wondering what i was on. Clearly, I bought the CD and now she listens to it more than I do.
Even though this is an awesome compliation, the other CD's remain a must have for two reasons: 1) they're all awesome, and 2) anyone who likes this sort of music respects Chicane and will want to have every piece of work this man has ever published.
Thank you for an awesome 11 years!!!
Okay, 14 Oct 2008
I was and always have been a fan, but listening to this CD makes me realise why I don't listen to them all that much anymore - from '96 to present, unless you know their music, you can't tell which ones are from '96 and which are new as the sound never changes. Back in '96, it was new and fresh, but now it all just sounds dated.
While other artists from the same era, BT, Hybrid, Way Out West and so on developed, Chicane just stood where they were. (To be fair, BT went off to a different planet, but at least he developed). And let's be honest, would they have had the success without help from Bryan Adams halfway through their career and all their other collaborations?
As for the CD - the 12" of Saltwater should have been included, not the 3:22 edit and where is Strong in Love with Sylvia Mason James and the decent Disco Citizens mix of Sunstroke?
Giving this 3 stars instead of 2 as it does contain the original 12" of Offshore, and not that god awful Offshore 97..

Let me just start by saying i like Chicane. The album far from the maddening crowds wasn't a let down when i bought it after hearing and falling in love with Offshore (all those years ago!). Behind the sun was an amazing follow up album too and both have been in my favourites ever since. But Nicks later stuff didn't quite reach the same standard as far as i'm concerned. Then i saw this best of album coming out and i was interested to see what tracks would be chosen. Half the tracks i'd not even heard before so i was sceptical as i assumed it would be like the newer stuff that i dont really like. I was wrong. I dont know where i got the idea his new stuff was pants coz i like every track on this album. I'd never heard the Tom jones track before, thats banging. Spirit is ledge. And with the classics such as offshore and sunstroke its quality. If you just like a tune or 2 of chicanes get this album as i bet you'll become a huge fan after listening to it. One pitfall with it though is that it hasnt got autumn tactics on it. Why the hell not??? Best tune ever, never mind best Chicane song ever!! Anyway i'll shut up now, buy it!!
Fantastic Album - A complete must have!!, 11 Oct 2008
I bought this album today and all I can say is it is simply fantastic - I had no idea Chicane had so many well known tracks. I won't ever tire of listening to this cd - it has brought back loads of happy memories!!

Best Club Album Yet !!!, 27 Oct 2008
Well i must say i thought this was just another compilation of the latest tunes that i don't care about at all. How i was wrong !!
This is brilliant, it contains new songs such as "Cry for You" and also contains some real classics such as "Luvstruck" which we recognize from "Kevin and Perry". The list really does go on and not only are they brilliant tracks but they are also all club mixes of these songs so there's added bass and speed on most tracks.
Good for general listening but obviously much better in the car, club, house party or anywhere with loud speakers and subs !!
EASILY worth the money !!

Amazing album, poorly mastered, 01 Oct 2008
This is more of a warning than a review. Basically, every track on the album has two seconds of silence at the end, including the first track "Prelude" which should seamlessly merge into "Slam". Other than this one instance it isn't that annoying, but if that kind of thing would irritate you, you may be better off looking for the original version of the album, which was mixed properly: Hold Your Colour
If you are looking to put the album on a computer or portable media player (iPod, etc.) there are workarounds for this. Once you have bought and ripped the album to your computer, either download a replacement copy of "Prelude" from the original, or edit the track yourself using a program like Audacity. In terms of whether this album is better or worse than the original, the two new tracks are different, and it is personal preference as to whether you will like them more than the original tracks.
It is a shame that the album is faulty, because other than that it is a brilliant piece of work. Every track is filled with energy, and is beautifully crafted. Some particular highlights include "Slam", "Fasten Your Seatbelts", "Sounds of Life", "Hold Your Colour" and "Streamline". However, in my opinion at least, there is not a bad track on the entire album.
Amazing work (as always) Pendulum.
Let down by Breakbeat Kaos / Metropolis.
Brilliant!, 16 Sep 2008
Amazing! I bought the original release some years back and loved it, but now it has been re-released with the inclusion of "Blood Sugar" and "Axel Grinder" it is even better than before and I for one didnt think that was possible! A must have!
what a load of rubbish!, 04 Sep 2008
Do not buy this version of the cd, go and get the original, theres stupid 2 second pauses inbetween the tracks and they've just taken two of the best tracks off the album and replaced it with crap ones.
Pendulum - Hold your colour, 10 Aug 2008
I bought this based on someone else's recommendation, and I have to say that although it's not a bad album, In Silico is much better. Sorry!
Like being on a plane!, 12 May 2008
I've very strangely titled ths review as like being on a plane, just because some aspects of it are exactly that! When the album starts the plane is parked on the runway and the engines go down then everything just well.. takes off. You want to close your eyes but are just forced to submit and watch, just as the album opens you can't help just just sit listen or get up and dance like a looney depending on preference! Anyway dispensing with the metaphor, I was never a fan of drum and bass or any music of that kind. I thought that it was just for a certain group of people that was until me and my friend happened to find 'Hold your Colour' on a stone wall out in the middle of nowhere that my views on that music were changed perhaps forever. After we stuck it in the CD player we didn't know what to expect but then we did get addicted to it.
True some may say that its not proper drum and bass, the kind of stuff that you'd find hooded geniuses to be crafting in the basement of their dark and dingy North London flat but this album certainly is a gateway into all of that. Pendulum are so sophisticated in 'Hold your Colour' that they even manage to make Gene Wilder in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory sound good, thats in 'Through the Loop' by the way!
With the reissue last year even with the success of the original issue you'd think that Pendulum would make this new version even more accessable (if you could do such a thing) stick a few alternate takes of songs etc yet the only difference is that they have changed the last few tracks with new ones. The two in question being 'Blood Sugar' and 'Axle Grinder', in the broad sense Blood Sugar is the same story as Slam only with a different synth riff but still it does have knack of getting the crowd going. Axle Grinder is true to its name and does sound reminiscent of a car crash, a little atonal and uninteresting.
But to sum up, this album is a cracking good listen and I'm a self confessed bad dancer and I really did myself justice when I went to see them live, it is guaranteed to get you jumping up and down (whether you choose to admit it or not)!
So if in doubt, buy buy buy! You will be pleasantly surprised!

Perfect Debut Album, 09 May 2008
Cascada was the first group that got me into Dance music. I normally listen to Rock but there was something I liked about their music.
The tracks on this album have all got great beats to get bopping along to weather at home (which you'll properly find me doing) or in a club. These beats are out-shadowed by the amazing voice that Natalie has. Every single song on here is brilliant! Must Buy I would say
Cascada :-), 24 Jan 2008
This album by Cascada is great, it's actually impossible not to feel happy and energetic when you listen to Cascada. he songs are upbeat and fun to listened to. A great CD (even if ALL of her songs are covers).
Very good music to listen to if you are feeling down or lethargic - guartanteed to chear you up and give you an energy boost. The best songs being, in my opinion, Everytime We Touch, Because The Night, A Never Ending Dream and Truely Madly Deeply (although the remix of Truley Madly Deeply is actually better than the origional, the origional feels as though it has been slowed down).
Great CD, very hard to sit still while listening.
party, 18 Jan 2008
this album is brilliant ignore any critism this if your into dance music you wana here this music that make you feel good and want to party and wid a fit girl singing it its all good.
Worth getting for a listen before a night out clubbing, 06 Jan 2008
I love it, very clubby, although there are one or two covers that seem to have been put on there just to fill up the CD. Still worth getting!
Absolute awesome album!, 15 Sep 2007
Ignore any rubbishy reviews on this album - it`s damn brilliant. Lovely decent music to make you feel good and wanna dance. Why criticize it - are people boring out there? Perhaps so and all they like is BORING miserable music. Well, us dance music fans are the complete opposite, we just love this. Let`s party!

Get involved., 12 Oct 2008

A Neu change in direction, 07 Oct 2008
A complete shift away from the break beat grooves of his best known material towards a more Neu influenced vibe reminiscent of Primal Scream's 'Evil Heat' crossed with the Jesus and Mary Chain's 'Darklands'. So if you get off on those this should also be your bag. Like the JAMC's Jim Reid, DH half whispers rather than sings but that's fine. Whether I play this as often as 'This film..' remains to be seen. There isnt as much to find on repeated listenings as there is on his first 2 albums but it's still pretty good at that.
yet more inspired genius...., 09 Sep 2008
David Holmes at his best - if you are looking for continuity with any of his last albums forget it - none of them lead onto the other, its just another stop on an amazing musical journey - Another blinder...
I've heard the preview..., 13 Aug 2008
...as he played what I'm guessing was pretty much the whole album in a DJ set at The Big Chill festival this year. The material was very rock-influenced but with strong grooves that you could dance to, very much akin to his 'Bow Down To The Exit Sign' and bands like Death In Vegas and Primal Scream. It was all fairly dark, not much in the way of uplifting/funky material like '69 Police' or 'May Mate Paul', so if that's what you're after you may be disappointed.

Album of the Year, 15 Nov 2008
Cant write enough good comment5 about this album, top mix and epic production!!!!!!
BUY IT NOW
excellent , 14 Nov 2008
debut release from the mau5, a great mix of original progressive house with some more mainstream funky/ambient stuff thrown in. Best feature of the album for me is the sound quality itself, the production is top notch - EPIC!
Stunning, 01 Nov 2008
This is the best house CD I have heard in a very long time. The continuous mix at the end of the CD is what it's all about. Saw him play at the Space closing and this is even better. I can't recommend it enough.
:-) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! :-), 30 Oct 2008
Deadmau5 has produced and remixed quite a lot of choons on the dance scene over the last couple of years. This album release has come at the right time where, to his credit, he is now recognised as a serious and "in demand" producer/remixer who has his own style and distinct sound.
The album is a mixed album of Deadmau5's most recognised choons. If you have never heard his material, I would describe it as minimal, melodic progressive house that sounds very warm and bouncey - not cheesey!
For me the best tracks are Brazil, Alone With You, Not Exactly, Faxing Berlin and Arguru.
If you want a banging hard sounding album then this is not for you. But if you want a more chilled and well produced sound that teases the listener in places then go for it.
The reason I gave this a 4 Star is because not everybody likes a mixed album of one particular artist. Having said that, this album works the way it is and I personally prefer it this way.
If you like a bit of minimal proggy stuff then I can't recommend this high enough! Tip Top!! :-)

Tip Top!! :-)
No Longer a Rumour- Invol2ver deal sealed (Successful)!, 20 Nov 2008
Officially, I knew this would be released about one or two days after I ran the Imogene. It was a lot harder to get used to the original Involver when Sasha first started it, though I liked that one with the atmospheric break beats than it picked up a little bit. However, Invol2ver (Involver 2) has a little more life in it than that. The anticipated date was questioned since last year and there were only rumours of Involver 2 coming out in the future, though not confirmed.
Finally, the news is out with Involver 2 now officaially in existance. How did it fair? The original CD had a lot more beat in it than the original Involver release. You could actually here same Sasha tracks in it as well, including a couple of unreleased tracks. The ambience remained, but a lot darker and denser. It took me two tries to get it right, but despite a couple of boring tracks, Involver 2 is a highly recommended release and deserves a 4.5/5 in my opinion. The second CD reminds me of something THE ORB would do. Ambient music!!
Recommended to all Sasha and Digweed fans; not discluding anyone else from trying it!
Masterpiece, 11 Nov 2008
I find it difficult to explain how good this album is. Global Underground refer to Invol2ver as a masterpiece (in the 'Global Underground 2009' sleeve notes. It is. I don't feel the need to qualify this statement. Sasha is peerless. Usually, I make the mistake of listening to albums too often and they quickly lose their appeal. However, this beautifully crafted album just gets better every time. Buy it.
the man is a genius, end of., 15 Oct 2008
Buy this, from amazon, enjoy. Ignore self promoting reviewers comments, they are too busy loving themselves to recognise the talent, skill and sheer bloody hard work that went into this awesome album. Sasha, I thank you.
A complete return to form and beyond..., 08 Oct 2008
Both Sasha and Digweed have restored my faith in progressive house simultaneously.
Invol2ver and Transitions 4 are two of the best mixes I've heard since the GU Ibiza and Hong Kong mixes respectively way back in 1999.
Sasha, having bored me fairly rigid on two incoherent mixes namely Fundacion and Involver, has produced a beautiful and complex sound scape which blew me away on the first listen. The thing is this mix builds beautifully and hangs so well. The same could be said for Transitions 4 (Digweed)
I feel the Sasha has taken dance music in the direction he wants but has neared perfecting his craft. The tracks are more vocal and seem more subdued and wistful than in previous mixes (see Communicate) but has managed to build interesting and atmospheric layers over them while the melody simply brightens and brightens which achieves the euphoria it is designed to do.
Brilliant stuff. It's just ace.
Can't put my finger on it...., 30 Sep 2008
I'm not going to get caught in the gushing gooey Sasha trap. I've listened to the album a few times now and can't quite sum it up. There are moments of genius (aren't there always with Sasha?), but I can't help feeling that this lacks some of the imagination of Involver. It needs some breaks, more lushness, more melancholy, more something.
That said, I've checked myself before it's too late.... my expectations of Sasha are probably higher than that of any other DJ. Here-in lies the problem. If anyone else had released this, I would be extremely impressed. I know Sasha is even better than this though. The mix however, still gets 4 stars because it's very pleasant on the ear and in fairness the man has evolved his sound again, like he always does.

Get involved., 12 Oct 2008
