Jazz needs more exposure, 24 Aug 2008
I'm giving this 5 stars in an attempt to bring the overall rating to a more realistic level (at the time of writing the low level is caused by McStick's particularly unhelpful and blinkered comments).
The tracks on this CD are classics of the jazz genre. The CD is a perfect introduction to the more mellow regions of the jazz world. As it is designed to accompany Classic FM's midnight show then I would say that it hits the spot perfectly in that regard too.
If you are a jazz lover then the chances are you will have most of these tracks in your collection already. If you are new to jazz - possibly introduced to it by the Classic FM show - then this seems to me to be an excellent CD to buy.
A question: why in the UK do we have two radio stations almost entirely dedicated to classical music and no jazz stations?
Bring back The Jazz!

Why have Classic FM released a jazz CD? For me, I don't feel that classical and jazz go together at all! I know they may have shut down their sister station, The Jazz, but why do those who want classical music have to be lumbered with Jazz music as well? Classic FM should stick to what they do best; keep on with the classical and get rid of the jazz!

Oh so smooth sir, 15 May 2008
This is my favourite play at the moment, I guess that I am a little late in trying Mr Buble's music, but I am a convert. Think of a nicely warmed, quality single malt, good crystal glass, this is that smooth, just slides down, leaving a pleasant glow behind. Good in the car, great on the MP3 player, nice in the background during dinner with friends. This album has a great selection of tracks, well known classics of the genre, and others, new to me at least. Just try it!
Mmmm.............smooth as silk, 27 Mar 2008
This is a lovely album. Michael Buble has a voice to die for, style, class, charisma, and is cute too!! I love Lost, Home, and his version of Me and Mrs. Jones, pure perfection!! The production on this album is fabulous, and of course, Michael's voice is so smooth, so seductive, just pure silk. He ticks all the right boxes for me, I think he's wonderful, and I think this album is wonderful too.
Great album, but I feel cheated., 23 Dec 2007
Yes it is a great album and with an extra CD too. But, I asked my daughter to get me the new Micheal Buble album for Christmas and this it what I got. She said she was told this was the latest. I don't know what to do now because I had this CD for my birthday in November but without the extra CD. Should I tell her it's the same?
If there is a newer album I apologise.
Call Me Irresponsible Tour Edition, 04 Nov 2007
Well can I start by saying that Call Me Irresponsible is a great Buble album, one of his best and this Tour Edition was only bought out to promote his UK tour.
Now for that reason I was thinking should I buy this? And if you already own CMI then your probaly thinking the same. Well what do you get? Eight songs is the answer, two new studio recordings (however if you already own the internet edition of this album then you already have Orange Coloured Sky), 3 new mixes of his 'biggest hits' and 3 christmas songs.
Now are they any good? I thought Stuck In The Middle With You was great, a new Buble favourite of mine. Orange Coloured Sky was good but I didn't think he did as good as job as he did with Stuck in the miidle. The 3 new mixes i didn't really like and felt that they shouldn't have been put on the album. Now don't get me wrong I like Everything and Lost alot and Homes ok. But I just felt a bit cheated with this I already own these songs and the new mixes arn't great, this is the real problem with this edition of CMI. Lost dosn't sound much different just a bit shorter, the new intro to Home I didn't like and I just want to stop listeing to it after I hear that and the new Everything I thought wasn't as good as the original record. Still the actual songs are good it's just what the people who remixed did that makes me think there not great. And the Christmas song? Well again there OK but not great. Let It Snow I quite enjoyed and the other two just seemed a liitle average. Still Buble did recored them at the same time as his first album (there off his Christmas EP) and I think he's improved as a recording artist, I feel his voice has got alot better as is his treatment of a lyric, I still enjoyed his first album though.
Now should you buy this? If you don't already own CMI then yes because what you get is at a good price (the album, the second disc and the booklet now comes with some great linear notes). However if you do already own CMI then this is really for die hards only who want everything he's recorded. That said if you have the money for it, spare and there isn't really anything else you want then go for it! 'Cos it's undeniable true that Stuck In The Middle With You is great!

Product Description
With her debut album Frank, Amy Winehouse proves to be one of the most original, honest and brave singer/songwriters to emerge in recent years. Over the course of the 13 songs, she manages to do everything required of a classic album. This is a stark piece of work, comprising husky, frequently sexually charged vocals, painfully honest lyrics and soft trumpets, laidback beats and sparse guitar work. It seems that soulful jazz doesn't always have to be bland--it can also be playful, twisted and arrogant ("Amy Amy Amy"). "Fuck Me Pumps" charts a seemingly guilt-free act of infidelity: "What do you expect when you leave me here alone?" she asks coyly, as if by way of justifiable explanation. "You wouldn't want me to be lonely," she adds. You can't help warming to her, despite what she's saying. A unique sense of humour (how rare in music now) and a no-bull attitude make for an interesting, compelling debut. Frank? Yes, but refreshingly so. You wouldn't want her for a girlfriend, but as a life companion she may yet prove indispensable. --Cortman Virtue

AMY WINEHOUSE'S FRANK, 21 Jun 2008
I was introduced to Amy Winehouse when I finally purchased Back to Black months after the CD had been released. After hearing "You Know I'm No Good" and "Rehab", I still didn't know what to expect from the entire CD, so I decided to wait until a friend of mine finally convinced me to buy it. The CD had an old school feel to it and my favorite tracks ended up being "Back To Black", "Tears Dry On Their Own", "Me & Mrs. Jones", "Love Is A Losing Game" and "Rehab". I was seacrhing for music one day on amazon and I found out that she was
re-relasing a CD that she had previously released overseas in 2003 entitled "Frank".
The CD gets off to a nice start with the track "Stronger Than Me". Amy speaks about a courtship where while she is 7 years younger, she seems to be the wiser of the 2 and she wants a man that is being just that, a man. She doesn't feel that she should be the one telling him or advising him to be a man. She expects him to already know those requirements. It also seems that he wants a relationship and she just wants him to satisfy her in the bedroom only. Things get even better with "You Sent Me Flying". The track starts off as a piano led slow jam and midway through the track it becomes an uptempo track. Amy talks about being caught off guard by the man that she was involved with kicking her to the curb. This track sounds different than anything Amy did on "Back To Black". There is no old school 60s or 70s track in the background. The beat will remind you of a more up to date r&b track. "Know You Now" has Amy wanting to get to know the man that she has just met. Sometimes in relationships people want to take things slow and get to know the person. In this instance, it seems as if Amy is on the fast track. "F____ Me Pumps" is a funny but true tale about a particular type of woman. This woman wants to achieve a certain type of status by dating and being seen with famous celebrities and/or athletes. She also has no concept of commitment because they are so eager to live the fast life while they still have their physical attributes to get them what they want. "I Heard Love Is Blind", "Moody's Mood For Love" and "There Is No Greater Love" are all ballads that you heard and have come to love from Amy. These tracks sound as if they were the blueprint to the ballads that are found on "Back To Black". "I Heard Love Is Blind" is hialrious in some aspects because she is trying to find excuses for why she cheated on the man that she was with by saying since she was left alone for a particular time she had to "be" with someone. She says that while she was with the other man, she wasn't cheating because she was thinking of her #1 man. If you say so, Amy..lol My favorite track ends up being "In My Bed". Amy uses the beat from Nas' "Made U Look" from his
God's Son CD. Amy uses the track to create her own anthem about not wanting to catch any serious feelings for any particular man. She still wants the benefits of "relations" but she doesn't want to be tied down to any 1 man. The combination of the Nas track and Amy's lyrics and voice blend well together on this song. "Take The Box" has Amy frustrated because while she doesn't have to lay her eyes on a man that she broke up with, she doesn't want to be reminded of anything that has to do with him. She is coming to collect her belongings and in my opinion she is mad because she had to come by his place & doesn't want to deal with the situation anymore after today. "October Song" is an upbeat, midtempo track that is clearly different than anything that I have heard from her. I am not use to any positive vibes coming from any Amy Winehouse track. "What Is It About Men" has Amy questioning her ways when dealing with men in general. She is trying to understand why she is weak when it comes to certain aspects about men. "Amy Amy Amy" has Amy back to her devious ways when it comes to dealing with the opposite sex. After listening to "Amy, Amy, Amy" and the Outro, which are both on Track 12, you will find yourself treated to 2 nice bonus tracks that are just as nice as the rest of the tracks on "Frank". Track 12 clocks in at over 13 minutes long.
Overall, I feel that "Frank" is just as nice as Back to Black. "Frank" is the perfect introduction to "Back To Black". Once you listen to "Frank" you will notice certain aspects on "Frank" that made "Back To Black" the CD that it was. The production is different on "Frank" in some instances because of the traditional r&b sound on some tracks, but the quality is still A+ in my opinion. If you are a fan of Amy Winehouse then you should have both CDs in your collection. Let's just hope that she gets her personal life together so we can continue to hear these great CDs.
Yes, this is worth 5 stars, 07 Jun 2008
Like most people (I guess) I bought this album after the more recent Back to Black. Some say it's better, some say not as good. I can't quite decide either way, which should tell you one thing: it's excellent. The simple advice is that if you enjoyed B2B you'll enjoy this just as much. Don't hesitate. In some ways it's more honest, even though I'm not sure what I mean by that! AFAIK Frank was Amy Winehouse's first album, and as a result presumably a lot of people, myself included, missed it completely. Unfortunately all of the high-profile publicity about her private life has drawn attention from a vastly wider audience than might otherwise have been the case, but surely there's no denying that, before the downhill slide, she had genuine talent and she's not just a top-class singer but a great songwriter too - she was at least partly responsible for writing most of the songs here.
One niggle though. Why is it a good idea to make songs sound as if you're listening to a scratchy vinyl record? It's evident on four tracks: Stronger Than Me, Cherry, There Is No Greater Love, and parts of the 13-minute final track Amy Amy Amy. I had the same complaint with an Alicia Keys album, and there are many others. It's distracting and it just makes the whole listening experience less satisfying. What on earth is the point? I wish this 'fashion' would stop.
My sister stole it!, 08 May 2008
My fiance bought me this album for my birthday years ago, I liked Amy's first single so thought I'd give the album a try. I loved it and played it non stop which irritated my sister. She's apparantly not into that kind of music but funnily enough, a year later I find the album in her car! She hasn't given it back and I've missed the album so much I've decided to buy another one and Amy's other album Back to Black.
Superb, wonderful, she just does no wrong!!, 04 Feb 2008
I also bought this after after falling in love with Amy's voice on Back to Black. She is truly an immense talent and leaves most other artists in her shadow. She is the Billie Holiday of the New Millenuim.
Amazing - Better than Black to black, 29 Jan 2008
I bought back to black about 8 months ago and absoluetly loved that album. Prior to this I had heard all the talk about Amy's brilliance but had been quite skeptical, however even for the skeptic that I am Amy's voice is so great it demands attention. I then heard rehab and I liked that, I next heard You know i'm no good and though that's good too, finally I heard tears dry on their own and thought it was about time I bought Amy's album which I was totally blown away by. I was toying with the idea of getting frank but was worried that I wouldnt like it as it might not live up to back to black and boy was I wrong in my opinion it is even better than Black to Black and just highlights even further what a great talent Amy is and how versatile she is. The album is beautiful and I can't honestly say there is a single track on here that I dont like they are all great, however the standout tracks are, In my bed, Take the box, Sent me flying and Mr magic. Amy Winehouse is an amazing talent I cant wait for the next album.

Voices like melting chocolate!, 21 Jun 2008
What a stunning album! I requested it for Christmas after seeing Blake at the Festival of Remembrance, and what a delight the album was... my only criticisms are first - a few naff tracks (God only knows - Beachboys did it better) and too many female sopranos in some (Swing low). If I buy a CD for men singing harmony, I don't want screeching women!
I do hope that a second album (and a website??) will soon be available.
More than just a pretty facebook, 03 Jun 2008
What would initially appear to be an overnight rise to fame, assuming a best-selling debut album qualifies for that title, is more an inevitable result of the hard work, enthusiasm and an abundance of talent from these four male singers.
Each have a background of academic musical studies and live performances, as soloists and with choirs, which led to degrees of success as individuals even before meeting up on the Facebook website - although they do admit to knowing, or knowing of, each other before that.
Their career took a swift upturn after they made an impromptu performance at a house party and realised that they had a natural chemistry which created a unique sound in terms of vocal harmony. Soon after, the four approached manager Daniel Glatman (Blue and Fron Male Voice Choir) who promptly recognised their talent and found them a record deal with the Universal label.
The result is this debut album, named `Blake' after the English poet William Blake "because he was a man who embraced so many different styles of art and language" says band member Dominic Tighe.
For me, the most surprising aspect of the album is its constant emphasis on the harmony vocals which tend to drive the orchestral accompaniment to the rear of the sound mix. This is in contrast to many of the recent pop/classical artists who often allow the orchestral aspects of the song to be bought to the fore. This vocal emphasis produces a distinctive sound which lends a more personal feel to many of the songs.
Of the songs, they are all chosen by the band themselves and range from the romantically sung (in Italian) `Yo Te Voy a Amar' (I'll Make Love to You) to the dramatic Gladiator film score adaptation `In Paradisum'.
This is a band which has the looks to please a young fan base and the talent to satisfy the demands of a classically critical audience.
Very pleased, 10 Apr 2008
I bought this CD a while ago but I never get tired of listening to it. The harmonising is unbelievable.
Well Done Guys - this is just the start!!!, 27 Feb 2008
After hearing about them on Classic FM, I asked Father Christmas to bring me their debut album. I can honestly say I was NOT disappointed. I love both Il Divo and G4 and was very interested to see if they would be in a similar class. Guys, you are up there with Il Divo. You all have fantastic voices and your classical training shines through. I absolutely love "Hallelujah", which I am pleased to see has just been released as a single. The whole album is brilliant. I am looking forward to seeing you live at St James's Church in Piccadilly on 28 February. Keep up the good work.
Blake---Blake, 21 Jan 2008
Have to admit that I was blown away by the sound and the over all production on this album. It is indeed well worth adding to your collection and I am looking forward to hearing more from this talented act in the future.

Product Description
Michael Buble's assured debut and the tireless year of globe-trotting touring he spent promoting it elevated the 20-something Vancouver native into the first rank of pop crooner revivalists. His sophomore studio follow-up largely turns on the same formula that helped make his considerable vocal prowess so attractive to mainstream audiences, mixing the nigh flawless, if expected Sinatra-channelling ("I've Got You Under My Skin") with more playful and inviting renditions of pop standards like the Gershwin's "A Foggy Day in London Town," "Feeling Good," "Try A Little Tenderness" and Cole Porter's "I've Got You Under My Skin." But it's the eclectic mix of more contemporary material the singer seasons them with--apt tribute to Buble hero Bobby Darin--that keeps him walking the narrow tightrope between artistic intrigue (a blues-tinged vamp of Holland-Dozier-Holland's "How Sweet It Is," Leon Russell's lovely "Song For You," with a guest turn by Chris Botti) and the kitsch-laden abyss ("Quando, Quando, Quando"'s Euro-centric duet with Nelly Furtado, a ring-a-ding-fling with the Beatles' "Can't Buy Me Love" that echoes fellow Canadian crooner/rival Matt Dusk's more successful flirtation with Lennon-McCartney). Arranger/producer Tommy LiPuma offers Buble a welcome swinging jazz showcase on "The More I See of You," a bracing respite from the rest of producer David Foster's slick production. --Jerry McCulley

Blown away, 11 Aug 2008
What a great box set ,lots to relax too.Great tracks and yes uncut too.One for people trying jazz for the first time enjoy
Is this not Classic FM???, 31 Jul 2008

Bublé makes all the songs on this album his own, and even people who aren't fond of the Rat Pack sound will definitely be converted!
Any or all of his music would make perfect Valentines Day / anniversary gifts,
Utterly fabulous!
Great tunes and brilliant fun!, 19 Sep 2007
If this album doesnt get you thinking you can sing or have you dancing around the house then you have no soul!
as unoriginal as they come, 26 Oct 2006
Oh dear! This plays like some tribute album or other. If your benchmark is Sinatra/King Cole/Torme or any other of the greats, then what on earth is the point of all this? True, there are some wonderful songs, but Buble doesn't bring anything new to them in the way that say, Shamus Dark does when he breathes new life into Angel Eyes etc. If you don't like the modern approach of Dark, then stick with originals - they still can't be beat!
Cant get any better than Buble!!!, 22 Mar 2006
Words cant describe how good this guy is... You will fall in love with him too.
Buble Mania-Bringing back the classics!, 11 Mar 2006
OK-Speaking from the United States, this performer has blown us away. Although we can not get Sinatra and Bobby Darin back, Michael Buble gives us the songs we loved from that time with a new twist. I have seen him 4 times in concert and it amazes me how well he sounds live not just on tour. Beside being quite the entertainer and really reaching out to his audience, his smooth style that he brings to the classic tunes we hear makes you just want to sing along. You will not regret purchasing ITS TIME or his first CD self titled. I adore him and love his music. People young and old have come to enjoy bridging the gap between the generations. How many artist now a days can do that? BUY, BUY, BUY. The more you see and hear him..........the more you will catch the Buble Fever! He's easy on the eyes too ;)

Product Description
Pop's rush to raid the cradle continues with this promising, self-titled debut by 25-year-old Canadian singer Michael Bublé. And while the young vocal star's good looks are smart enough for a boy band, his muse seems to have sprung from a more sassy and compelling musical era. Mentored by Paul Anka (whose 1950s hit "Put Your Head on My Shoulder" is covered in dreamy, cabaret fashion here), Bublé sings in the orbits of Darin and Sinatra, covering swing epoch gems ("Come Fly with Me", "The Way You Look Tonight", "That's All") and rock-era standards (Van Morrison's "Moondance", "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" by the Brothers Gibb, Queen's "Crazy Little Thing Called Love") with equal aplomb. David Foster's production is typically slick and played to the back row of the bleachers, but it's informed by smart contexts provided by such arrangers as Johnny Mandel, Randy Waldman and Mike Melvoin. If the choices of material are sometimes staid and predictable, they also give the singer a crucial framework for building toward something more challenging; his is a bright future. --Jerry McCulley

Cyril....Dublin.. January 2008.

He's easy on the eyes too ;)
Simply the best and a bargain, 26 Feb 2008
I have owned this CD for more than 3 years and it is still the best Buble has ever done. I saw him sing most of the tracks at Ronnie Scotts and even now my friends accompanying me that night still talk fondly of the occasion. At this bargain price (feb 2008) you cannot afford to be without it. Everyone will ask you who is singing it. It is just wonderful music. All the songs are beautifully arranged and exceptionally well sung. I listen to it again and again without tiring of it.
Bringing jazz and swing to a new generation!, 04 Feb 2008
As an eighteen year old girl from North London it's not very often i hear jazz or swing music, and to be honest i had never even bothered before. When this album was first released i heard it at a dance class i attended and it got me hooked on Michael Buble and jazz and swing as entire genres of music.
The orchesteral arrangements are good but the outstanding quality of Michael Buble's voice is what sold it to me. He has great phrasing, vocal tone and a fantastic, emotional delivery which makes you feel like every word is being sung to you alone. His voice gives me goosebumps and makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.
After buying this CD i began listening to the true legends such as Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, and in my opinion Michael Buble matches both of these. I have since bought his other albums and lent them to friends who too have become hooked. I could never grow tired of listening to him sing and all his albums are constantly on repeat in my car. Michael Buble has delivered jazz and swing to a whole new generation!
Hooray for Bublé!, 13 Jun 2007
This is the debut album from Canadian singer Michael Buble.
It lasts 49 minutes in total, and has 13 songs:
1. FEVER.
Buble's cover of Peggy lee's cover of Little Willie John's song {!}
The song begins with a double bass {always a good sign!} then builds into a big band stomper! 10/10.
2. MOONDANCE.
Buble's version of Van Morrisons 70's hit.
Possibly the best song on the album. The music alone is fabulous, Buble's vocals make it even better! 10/10.
3. KISSING A FOOL.
Buble's cover of George Michaels song.
Great use of the piano 9/10.
4. FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE.
Buble's version of Stevie Wonders song. Slower than his version, but equally as good {if not better!} 10/10.
5. HOW CAN YOU MEND A BROKEN HEART.
Buble's cover of The Bee Gees hit - 8/10.
6. SUMMER WIND.
Buble's version of Frank Sinatra's song.
This song reminds me of MACK THE KNIFE, great saxophone solo - 9/10.
7. YOULL NEVER FIND A LOVE LIKE MINE.
Buble's cover of the song first sung by Lou Rawls.
It has an aura of a James Bond song about it! good backing vocals - 9/10.
8. CRAZY LITTLE THING CALLED LOVE.
Buble's version of the Queen song.
Its fab & totally different to the original - 10/10.
9. PUT YOUR HEAD ON MY SHOULDER.
Buble's cover of Paul Ankas song.
Romantic & tender, a totally relaxing song - 10/10.
10. SWAY.
Buble's version of the Dean Martin song.
Sensational! 10/10.
11. THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT.
Buble's superb cover of the Frank Sinatra song - 10/10.
12. COME FLY WITH ME.
Buble's version of the Frank Sinatra song.
Buble was born to sing this song - 10/10.
13. THATS ALL.
Buble's cover of the Frank Sinatra song.
Sexy! 10/10.
I bought this album after hearing Torvill and Dean dance to Buble's version of MOONDANCE on ITV 1. The song was stuck in my head for days!
If you or someone you know adores the big band sound, or you're just a fan of great music, then this album is for you.
Buble makes all the songs on this album his own, and even people who are'nt fond of the Rat Pack sound will undoubtedly be converted!
A perfect valentines day / anniversary gift,
Utterly fabulous!

Most enjoyable singer, 24 Feb 2006
This is my second MB CD - awesome! He is excellent in his phrasing, vocal tone and delivery; he must have been practising hard whilst out at sea fishing, singing his crewmates silly! This boy's got the whole package - wow. Buy it and hear him for yourself!

Product Description
Ry Cooder's name has helped bring attention to this session, but it's the veteran Cuban son musicians who make this album really special. Reminiscent of Ellington in its scope and sense of hushed romanticism, Buena Vista Social Club is that rare meld of quietude and intensity; while the players sound laid-back, they're putting forth very alive music, a reminder that aging doesn't mean taking to bed. Barbarito Torres's laoud solo on "El Cuarto de Tula" is both more blinding and more tasteful than any guitar showcase on any recent rock album; a quote from "Stormy Weather" and some very distinct parallels to Hawaiian styles remind us of why it's called "world music." --Rickey Wright

Blown away, 11 Aug 2008
What a great box set ,lots to relax too.Great tracks and yes uncut too.One for people trying jazz for the first time enjoy
Is this not Classic FM???, 31 Jul 2008
