Cistercian chant, 11 Aug 2008
This Cistercian abbey has a continous history since its foundation. My only criticsm is that according to the Rule Cistercians should chant in the Ambrosian mode - very slow & ponderous, and this CD is a little too fast. One of the plus points is that Cistercians do not have choir boys so the overall effect is a deeper more inspiring chant.

Beautifully haunting, played this cd for the 1st time on a car journey. My partner turned his nose up when it started to play but about 10 mins in he was changing his mind and by the end of play he said "I really enjoyed that".
Just sit back in your favourite chair put this on and let the stresses of work, family, whatever, just drift away.
Heaven Sent, 13 Jul 2008
I found this the most relaxing and complative music. I listened to this whilst recovering from a major operation and the medics noticed that whilst I was listening my blood pressure fell rapidly to normal. I find that when I can't sleep if I listen to this whilest in bed not only do I relax but it transports me to another more heavenly realm and I soon fall into a deep relxaing sleep. This is truly a wonderful sound; those who wrote this type of music so long ago certainly knew a thing or two about meditaion and its connection to humnan emotions.
Excellent, 09 Jul 2008
This was just what I hoped it would be, peaceful and relaxing.
I have never listened to anything like this before. I was very pleasantly surprised.
Helps to take the stress of the day away.
CD won't rip, 26 Jun 2008
CD won't play in my PC or rip to MP3, so beware.
It may or may not be enchanting etc but right now Universal have pulled a fast one by selling stuff I can't listen to.
Record companies need to grow up.

Product Description
It's been a less than Roman trail up to this point for long-haul, stubbly Scot trio Biffy Clyro. From the proto-grunge of their debut, through gathering melodic grandeur, progressive cross-genre experimentalism, brief indie accessibility and some truly heavy songwriting, to say they've surpassed expectations along the way is an understatement as large as the chasm between their original potential and subsequent accomplishment. They had doggedness and resilience from the off, they were a roughly musical Glasgow-kiss that left a mark and no doubt one or two fractures, but as persuasive as they might have been the Biffy Clyro of then could never have written the Queen vs. Fall Out Boy orchestral future-emo audaciousness of "Living Is a Problem Because Everyone Dies". That they did now should give Muse and Panic at the Disco cause for concern. What they've done with Puzzle then that they haven't exactly done before is marry their experimental bent with their swelling urge for accessibility, brilliantly. Acoustic "Machines" and rocketing "Saturday Superhouse" could be from the respective flip-sides of the Foo Fighters' double album, In Your Honour, only with that glint in the eye that long since evaded Grohl's mob. Hell, they even go a touch post-punk with bells on for a flash on "A Whole Child Ago". Is there nothing they won't turn their hands to and wring dry without breaking a sweat? Still waiting to find it. - - James Berry

MON THE BIFFY!!!, 06 Jun 2008
An awesome album best album of the last year by far. My friend got me into Biffy a while back so was listening to the back catalogue for a few months before this album came out. "Living Is A Problem..." is an awesome opening track with the strings and the choir lifting the track to the next level after that we're off and flying. "Saturday Superhouse" and "Who's Got A Match" all fly by at break neck speed before the tempo is slowed is ever so slightly by "As Dust Dances". "A Whole Child Ago" harks back to early Biffy Clyro efforts before firing through "The Conversation Is" and "Now I'm Everyone" leading onto the singles "Semi-Mental" and the emotionally charged "Folding Stars" then then finishing on "Machines" with the lyrics "take the pieces and build them skyward" meaning that the album as a whole finishes on a positive note. Overall this album isn't as hard as The Vertigo Of Bliss for example, but provides those who want to get into Biffy Clyro an instant access point before discovering the delights of their earlier work.
Class CD, 24 Apr 2008
The cd has a couple of singles on which are really well known. The music is extremely easy to listen to and enjoyable.
Really Dull, 18 Apr 2008
This is the first Biffy Clyro album I've bought and it really is just indie rock by the numbers. Derivative and dull.
Hugely Disappointing, 08 Apr 2008
Like most other of the 1 star reviewers, I too had been waiting with great anticipation for the release of Puzzle as Biffy's first three albums were all great. The non-standard time-keeping and structure to their songs was really appealling. Each album they had released was an improvement on the previous and they put on a phenomenally good live performance.
I truly thought that Puzzle would surpass Infinity Land and the band would make the bigtime. What appears to have happened is that the band have made the bigtime with a monumentally appauling record. I was desparate to hear the new material on Puzzle, but after just one listen it was fairly clear that I was in for a disappointment. I have listened to the album several times now, hoping that I would discover things I had missed the first time round. There was nothing left to discover and I just can't listen to it any more, it is that poor an album.
Puzzle sounds far too clean and has been over-produced, but this would be tollerable if deep down the music was any good. Unfortunately this is not the case. Biffy seem to have abandoned all that had previously made their music appealing and Puzzle is almost completely devoid of any musical inventiveness. I agree with other reviews that generally speaking the singles are the best tracks on the album.
If you like radio-friendly music then you may love puzzle. However, if having read good things about Biffy you are keen to hear their non-mainstream sound then please buy one of their earlier albums, particularly Vertigo of Bliss or Infinity Land. Puzzle is far too poppy for my liking. Pop can be good but if you want pop then buy ABBA. Biffy now sound too much like any other of the talentless bands that are clogging up the airwaves today. They may as well rename themselves "The Biffy Clyro" and advertise themselves on TV.

Product Description
Anyone familiar with cultish comedy series Flight of the Conchords will be aware of the wonderful songs that the hapless New Zealand duo Bret and Jemaine concoct for each episode. Tackling all genres, from hip hop and soul to glam rock, the duo create highly original and well-produced tracks that typically satirise the very genre they're imitating. This album collects together many of the show's best musical moments, many of them subtly revamped. "Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros" and "Boom" illustrate the pair's hilarious 'rap' skills. "Think About It" parodies socially minded soul visionaries such as Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield, "Bowie" satirises the 70s icon (especially his prodigious drug use), while "Inner City Pressure" mimics the Pet Shop Boys. Two of the most memorable songs from the series--"The Prince of Parties" and "The Most Beautiful Girl (In the Room)"--are also both present, making this the definitive FOTC compilation. The humour ranges from offbeat to downright daft, but there's nothing laughable about the production, which is mostly first class. It's true they could have given us a few new songs, but then how many comedy albums can you repeatedly rewind and find yourself not only laughing, but dancing too?--Paul Sullivan

Conchords are genius, but..., 19 Jul 2008
I'm disappointed some of the best songs are missing:
Sellotape (Pencils In The Wind)
If You're Into It
Bret, You've Got It Going On
Superb, 26 Jun 2008
I have only seen glimpses of the TV series, but no matter. This a wonderfully silly album combining very witty lyrics, with accurately observed pastiches of every genre of music.
The standout track initially is "It's partytime", in which a self-delusional "luvvaman" serenades his "wo'man". It's the last time I'll ever try to seduce my wife wearing just my black socks!
The other tracks bear repeated listening, and the joys of the wonderfully crafted lyrics are soon to be relished and enjoyed.
BUY IT!
You don,t need to see the TV series to appreciate this albums brilliance, 31 May 2008
Confession time. I haven't seen one frame of the TV series this album is lifted from ( I mean to put that erroneous oversight right by the way) Consequently I come at this album from a completely fresh perspective and judge it just on the strength of the songs.
These are parodies done in various styles - rap, R & B , singer songwriter and so on and are not only spot on musically with fulsome melodies and erudite arrangements but brilliant lyrically . You will laugh ...a lot. I was painting the first time I listened to this album and one couplet made me laugh so hard I dripped paint over the carpet , missing the dustsheet I had meticulously laid down. Thanks a lot guys.
It's all quality stuff but the highlights for me include the Pet Shop Boys pastiche "Inner City Pressure " ( "The manager Bevan starts to abuse me , chill out man I just want some muesli ".The bass line , widescreen synths and the use of the line "You just stand there" are uncanny. The rap p**s take "Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenocerous" has priceless lines like "My lines are so potent they end this small segment and made all of the ladies in the area pregnant./Yeah sometimes my lyrics are sexist but all you lovely bitches should know I'm trying to correct this". It's "Motherflippin" ace.
On the earnest R&B overload of "Think About It" kids are killing each other with knifes and forks and getting disease from monkeys. "Ladies Of The World" is a flawless parody of smooth contemporary soul leading into the profane hard edged rap hilarity of "Mutha, uckas" . "The Prince Of Parties" is a wonderfully observed rip off of 60,s psychedelic music . I'm not entirely sure what "Leggy Blond" is pastiching - though over intense singer songwriters would be my guess. "Robot Boom " is a superb and blatant Kraftwerk caricature where it's the year 2000 and there are no more humans-"We used poisonous gases and poisoned their asses" -or elephants and "We no longer say yes we say affirmative/ Yes......I mean affir... affirmative " .
"Boom" rips the p*** out of ragga before the positively identified singer songwriter tones of "A Kiss Is Not A Contract" but it is "very nice". "Business Time" is an approximation of Outkast and 70,s loved up funk. "Bowie" not surprisingly extracts the urine out of the great man right down to the slightly warbly voice. It's actually, for me the funniest thing on here ."This is Bowie to Bowie" he intones " Does the cold of deep space make your nipples all pointy Bowie?" /Do you use your nipples as space antenna to transmit data Bowie?". The "Lets Dance" segue is fantastically done.
Flight Of The Conchords is extremely silly and out of context from the series might not have worked as a stand alone album . But speaking , again, as someone who has only heard this music out of context of the TV series I've got to say it does work , indeed it works superbly . It is meticulously observed and sounds ridiculously easy but probably isn't .These are gifted musicians with a forensic eye for the absurd. The Conchords really hit the heights .Just don,t listen to it while painting .
Sublime, 24 May 2008
The Flight of The Conchords TV series was perhaps the one thing since Peep Show that I simply had to watch every week. Of course I didn't actually watch it every week as my attention span simply doesn't extend that far; I did buy the DVD though and watched the entire series over a weekend.
I don't throw this word about with gay abandon, but on this occasion it's more than justified. Flight of The Conchords was/is GENIUS. Quite apart from it being the funniest thing on TV, it's musical parodies were so spot on that you couldn't help but laugh. This CD brings the best of them to your home CD player in crystal clear stereo.
Be it the Pet Shop Boys stylings of Inner City Pressure, the Barry White-aping Buisness Time, the French Bossanova of Foux du Fafa or the Kraftwerk-baiting Robots, virtually every song hits that sweet spot. It's funny AND musically accomplished.
Of course I would have to admit that it's not quite the same as watching it on TV or catching their side-splitting stage show but if it falls short from the genius on display there, its only by the merest of fractions. As funny as it is catchy, this is simply sublime.
The only reason it's four stars not five is that it can't quite match the TV series.

While this is obviously tailored towards a stress filled society and is to be recommended for that, I personally enjoy the relaxing music `panpipes mellow moods' which I found by accident on amazon.co.uk The cd I possess from this site have a variety of stunning sounds tailored towards the relaxation market which I can recommend anyone who is searching into this particular genre. This cd is highly recommended and great to sleep or meditate too. If you go to their product description you will see their website they have samples for you to listen too as well. You can't go wrong!

This CD is very relaxing. The songs go deep to your soul, and sound so familiar for some reason. Anyway they're fantastic and I'm listening to them right now, not for the first time. Just thought I'd add another five star review to the bunch because this CD deserves it.
A must have for relaxing., 24 Mar 2008
I bought this cd for my 11 year old daughter who was finding it hard to go to sleep. She recieved this and the calming cd in the post about 3 weeks ago and played them that night she fell asleep with no trouble and she has played them every night since! Another bonus of these cds is that they are such good value too. I would recommend these to anyone.
Fabulous!!, 25 Jul 2007
I bought this CD as I have recently started working from home offering beauty treatments and wanted something to play as background music. This fits the bill perfectly.
I have also just found out that I am expecting our first baby and have played this CD to help me relax. It's so peaceful that I am sure to be packing it to have in the delivery room!!
Fantastic!, 11 Jul 2007
I love each and every track on this album!! This gentle soothing music massages away the stresses of the day, and lets your mind drift. Fantastic - a Must for any cd collection.

Record companies need to grow up.

this is a brilliant album i hate when people keep going on about its not old biffy they still have there obscure brilliance please stop it becuase you are being to critical this album is AMAZING!!!!
They may as well rename themselves "The Biffy Clyro" and advertise themselves on TV.
hilarious!, 09 Aug 2008
I had never heard of these but my boyfriend put this onto my ipod. I just could not stop laughing. "Can someone please remove these cutleries from my knees?" I laughed out loud on the tube.

Bought this CD after reading the positive reviews and I'm really glad I did. Our 2-year-old girl loves it and despite playing it over and over again we haven't got fed up with it, which is praise indeed!
Disagree with the reviewer who didn't like the male vocalist's voice. I think it's a pleasant change to hear an English accent with perfect diction.
Great opening track which gets our daughter dancing and our feet tapping immediately!
Really not that good or different, 27 May 2008
I bought this album as a result of all the positive reviews. However, I don't agree with them. Yes, there is a very slight 'twist' in that some of the songs start with different beats or musical styles. BUT, the nursery rhymes are sung by two annoyingly 'stage school' sounding singers, particularly the chap. His voice is so irritating that I can't listen to it. Plus they are basically the same as the much cheaper, but much better, BBC nursery rhyme albums I bought.
A waste of money as it isn't really any different. Buy 'Colours Are Brighter' if you want a truly alternative childs album or any of the They Might be Giant CDs.
Lana Nimmo, 16 Mar 2008
It's great and cheerful and our one year old daughter loves dancing to it. It also is the kind of CD that does not drive the parents insane when listening to it again and again. I thoroughly recommend it.
The Best Nursery Rhyme CD, 11 Oct 2007
This is quite simply the best nursery rhyme CD I have heard. All of the songs are really fun and the whole family loves to listen to it. Top marks!
Oxbridge baby nursery rhymes , 29 Aug 2007
We were pleased with this CD. The music is played and sung well, and I can't see it getting on our nerves for quite some time. There is one reviewer who said he was worried that his child would look silly at school because the melodies are so different, but they seem to be quite close to the originals (as I remember them) to me. Anyway, children learn quickly so it wouldn't be too much of a problem. The only drawbacks are the cost of this and the fact that there's no song sheet inside for all those parents who've forgotten the lyrics. On the whole though, worth having.

Oh dear, 03 Sep 2007
I bought this because I didn't remember any nursery rhymes and wanted to sing them with my daughter. It arrived in a double CD case and I thought 'oh good'. Only to find it's one CD of half finished songs. 10 green bottles finishes at 6, Nelly the elephant has no second verse, I could go on. Save your money on this one.
Quantity not Quality, 28 May 2007
I have been looking at the best albums for children and have seen this title is there quite a lot. Well don't be fooled, I have a copy and although there are loads of nursery rhymes on it you really wouldn't want to listen to many of them.
Boring is one word that describes this album. It is a shame that the people who make these kind of things think they can put loads of titles onto a CD and that will make it good, it doesn't!!!
Very Enjoyable, 13 May 2007
I have been enjoying playing this cd to entertain our new baby and particularly like the fact that it came with a booklet of words so I can learn them all!!
Brilliant, 09 Mar 2007
My son likes this and I play it at the mother & toddler group I run. Songs are in various styles and children won't get bored listening. Grown ups would like the songs too, as you even have a 'Tony Bennett like' voice singing one of the songs.

I have never listened to anything like this before. I was very pleasantly surprised.

I had never heard of these but my boyfriend put this onto my ipod. I just could not stop laughing. "Can someone please remove these cutleries from my knees?" I laughed out loud on the tube.

Relaxing, 07 May 2008
This CD is very relaxing.
Great CD, thoroughly recommend it!, 18 Jun 2008
Calm by tony white, 14 Jun 2008
I love love love this Cd. It is gentle and calming and exactly right for massage use and other calming therapies. There various tunes some with lilting vocals and ethenic influences. One tune reminds me a bit of Omars there is nothing like this as the intro is similar bass line of guitar. All my cleints love it and I listen to it over and over with out getting bored. It is just the right hint of relaxation and tuneful melodies. I highly recommend it to all. It is a good unwind at end of the day cd too.It has great mix of asain and western influences and I will be looking out for more of this type of Cd as does what it says.
Lovely and relaxing, 12 Jan 2008
I brought this to listen to while meditating. The music is lovely and relaxing it is also nice to listen to while doing the housework. It is a great CD.
Calm is the right title, 27 Jan 2005
I purchased this CD to see if would help me to relax. It is so good that when I play it I actually fall asleep. The tunes are so haunting, yet calming and you just find yourself floating. I bought the same CD for my daughter who gets really stressed out at Uni. This CD has even managed to de-stress her and she loves it too. I am actually buying another one so I can leave one at home, and take another one abroad. I would recommend this CD to anyone who just wants an hour of relaxation. Excellent value for money too.

Wow I absolutely LOVE this CD! It's so chilled and I fell asleep as I was so relaxed listening to it. Definitely recommend this, especially if you want to listen to it when you've gone to bed, it creates the right atmosphere for restful sleep. I bought this as a present, but I've decided to keep it instead....sorry H!!
