Product Description
Far from disappearing after hitting the pop charts with his famous schoolboy soprano rendition of "Walking in the Air" in 1985, Welsh singer Aled Jones has gone on to become one of the most consistent vocalists in Britain. His voice may have dipped to a baritone, but Jones has still shifted over six million records, entertained the Pope and the Queen, and has even become something of a minor television celebrity. One hit wonder, he isn't. You Raise Me Up collects together highlights from his 16 albums to date. Featuring many of his best-loved hits - "I Believe", "Silent Night", "Abide With Me", "Marble Halls" and, of course, the title track - Jones has also pulled off the wonderful masterstroke of re-recording "Walking in the Air", superimposing his current voice onto the original to create a most enchanting self-duet. Fans won't need much persuading to add this to their collection; and those who had Jones down as a novelty act might want to listen to this and think again.--Danny McKenna

A Real Pleasure to Meet you Again, Mr Jones, 12 Oct 2007
Listening to this CD was my first extended experience of Aled Jones(the older's) singing. I am very glad I gave myself the opportunity - and not just because of the very-reasonable Amazon price!
I have to say, therefore, that the singing on this CD merits some pretty fulsome praise. My overall impression is that, blessed with one of the most euphonious, light-baritone voices I can remember hearing, any song Mr Jones might choose to sing - within his popular/popular classical, religiously-oriented repertoire - would make extremely agreeable listening. As far as the contents of this collection are concerned, he sings it all with admirable clarity, tunefulness and lack of emotional affectation. I think I will take pleasure, repeatedly, in listening to most of the songs (already have done!), in particular "My Life Flows On," "Oh Holy Knight" and "Silent Worship," by Handel. The latter (referred to on the CD as "Did You Not Hear My Lady") is surely one of the most effortlessly-beautiful songs ever written by anyone, anywhere, in any age and it is gratifying that Aled Jones' rendering should make this so evident.
But my highest accolade has to go to "Marble Halls." This is what would probably be classified as a Victorian/Edwardian sentimental ballad but although it may still be that, in this recording it is altogether something more. And, ear-ravishing as is the tone of Julian Lloyd-Webber's cello, most of the credit for the performance can be claimed by the singer.
Absolutely lovely singing! If I had known about it when it first came out, I would unhesitatingly have voted this the CD Track of the Year (or something)!
Susie Veale, 24 Nov 2006
I eagerly await the release of this much anticipated album from Aled Jones in just days from now. I have all of his albums and each one has been a masterpiece, so the task of selecting 'the best' songs from these must have been a massive challenge, as all of his songs are wonderful and showcase the incredibly special quality of his gorgeous velvety voice.
Aled's previous albums have included some astonishing treats with the unique duets that he's created with his treble and baritone voices, so now on this "You Raise Me Up: the Best of Aled Jones" album, his baritone duet with his world-famous and award-winning treble rendition of "Walking In The Air", promises to be breathtaking.
Aled is set to raise us up yet again with this lovely album, and I can't wait!

This album remains one of the best, Anything but dull, real joy in worship with many favourites. I love this style of music and it does justice to the wonder of God's mighty works.
Great when you have friends round or just listening in the car or at home.
Wonderfully inspirational tracks.
Negative Feedback: Best Worship Songs... Ever Vol.1, 19 Aug 2007
Being a lifelong Christian, it is fair to say I have heard a lot of Christian music. This CD is quite simply The Worst I have heard, as a compilation it is weak; the songs are tepid and lack real depth of meaning. Ideal for the lacklustre; I believe the Lord deserves more!
One of the best compilations, if not THE best, 16 Feb 2007
I have been a born-again Christian for many years, but it is only within the past couple of years that I have begun to take an interest in modern Christian music outside of church. I purchased the sequel to this album before I had heard of this album, and I then purchased this album on the strength of More... Best Worship Songs Ever. I can honestly say that I have not been left disappointed with this offering. To some people, worship music is like church music - it can be dull and drab. However, this album lays that ghost to rest, with various lively pieces guaranteed to get you going. If you only buy one album, it is a toss-up between this album and its successor - if you buy two albums, it means you won't have to agonise over which one to buy. It will definitely be money well spent.
If you only buy one worship compilation, 16 Oct 2006
If you only buy one worship compilation then this has to be it. It has a fantastic selection of modern, meaningful and very uplifting worship songs by some of the top Christian artists: Matt Redman, Stuart Townend, Delirious? etc., and singing along to some of the tracks is its own prayer. This is fantastic value considering there are 3 CDs with 16, 17 and 16 tracks. Fab!
The best - and the worst - of modern Christian music, 27 Apr 2006
Although I am something of a traditionalist with a soft spot for the 'old' hymns that Christians have sung for generations, these three CDs have given me a new taste for worship music with a modern flavour. They contain a variety of music - old, much-loved lyrics set to inspiring new melodies, such as 'Be Still'; totally original compositions ('Here I Am to Worship'); songs to dance around the room to (See What a Morning); and songs to play quietly as you are drifting off to sleep (Colours of Day).
Unfortunately, Christian music producers don't seem to be very good at filtering enthusiastic Christians who have the talent to express their faith through music from equally enthusiastic Christians who certainly have the DESIRE to express their faith through music, but lack the talent for it. There are a few songs on here that are absolutely awful in terms of their musical value. But don't let that deter you. Overall the album is a fabulous choice, as it offers such a good variety of music and is excellent value for money.

Standard issue delirious?, 06 Jun 2008
`Kingdom of Comfort' has been hailed as a return to form with renewed purpose for delirious? Sadly, despite having its moments, for most of this album delirious? seem to be a band whose day has gone, trying desperately to regain some momentum. Any hope of connecting again with the cultural mainstream in which `King of Fools' and `Mezzamorphis' once so proudly swam seems to have been abandoned with an album aimed squarely at the Christian sub-culture. Many of the songs plod where delirious? once soared and the lyrics confuse where once they inspired. Why is God smiling when our hearts are broken? Does the Spirit really teach us to distance ourselves from the world when we live our dreams and sing a new song?
`Give it what you've got' comes on like a glammed up version of Maroon 5. The lyrics are hardly literature - "You've got to give it, give it, give it what you've got" - but at least this is a song that's got someplace to go and isn't wasting any time getting there. `Stare the monster down' brings a nicely propulsive 80s beat to express a desperate hopefulness in God's loving compassion despite our all evidence to the contrary. `Wonder' offers up a hymn from a life turned inside out by an encounter with God and is standard issue delirious? as are `How sweet the name' and `All God's children' the former given some edge with digitally manipulated vocals and sturdy power chords to wake the listener from their reverie, and the latter a good anthemic singalong that's not even derailed by the use of a children's choir. `We give you praise' and `My soul sings' offer the sound of a thousand uninspired modern worship songs.
This is not a bad album as such, more a disappointment. Delirious? used to be Cutting Edge. Not any more.
Great music, an even greater message!, 19 Apr 2008
Warning: this album is a grower. I really didn't like it at first, it didn't really grab me. But after a few listens, I absolutely love it! What a great album! I have not listened to anything else for a week. As you would expect, the musicianship is top-class, this band really play at the top of their game. But the real plus point is the message; we need to stop living our lives of comfort and start making a difference to this world! It's great when a worship album matches what you are hearing week in and week out at your own church! This album is a real blessing! A strong set of songs, especially the title track, Wonder and Break the Silence; buy it; its wonderful! And make sure you take on its central message!
It just gets better and better, 11 Apr 2008
They have been going for thirteen years, but each new album that Delirious? makes goes into a league of its own. The new album, "Kingdom of Comfort", their ELEVENTH studio album, doesn't break this chain - it extends it even further. Each album has its own unique qualitites and incredible stories attached to it; their previous album, "The Mission Bell", was all about (obviously) mission, letting go of everything and following Jesus, wherever he leads you. The new album moves slightly away from the worship and concentrates on real-life stories - very hard-hitting stories - emanating from places like India, where the band went from feeding slum kids to staying in a five-star hotel. They have described this album as being the "most uncomfortable" yet.
The twelve songs on this album are truly amazing, each one a gift in itself. Delirious? have proved once and for all that they are one of the best bands around, even if mainstream artists were included. As this album is released, I'll be hoping their next album is just as stunning as this one. And I know it will be.

There are a few songs on here that are absolutely awful in terms of their musical value. But don't let that deter you. Overall the album is a fabulous choice, as it offers such a good variety of music and is excellent value for money. Great music with awesome lyrics, 26 Oct 2008
This CD suprised me with it's contemprora lyrics and music. Especially I liked Jesus Messiah, God of this city and God Almigty. Four stars because the album has a bit too many similar songs.
Heartstopping Aled, 02 Nov 2005
Another lovely album...Aled has such a soothing voice, abrilliant Christmas album, I know it will be well listened to over the festive season...A must have Christmas CD...Well done again Aled. Riponian. Ahh Aled, 29 Dec 2004
Never been a massive Aled fan, things changed tho when I won tickets to his Christmas concert. The boy soprano has faded back where he belonged and in his place is an attractive man with the most beautiful, evocative voice and bubbly personality. A wonderful show, and what a lovely album for Christmas. Simply Delicious!, 29 Nov 2004
If you're reading this, then you have a vague intrest in this album so my advice to you is buy it!! Aled's voice is so yummy that everyone must hear it. This album does not disappoint, and every song is as great as the last and is enough to make anyone melt! Definately will get you in the mood for Christmas, and certainly worth the money. Comes highly recommended!
ALED JONES.....THE CHRISTMAS ALBUM, 25 Nov 2004
On a scale of one to five, this beautiful new album from Aled Jones deserves at least a ten!! How refreshing it is to have a collection of truly traditional carols that warm the heart and uplift the soul, and reflect the meaning of Christmas and not the commercialism. Aled's two previous albums of his adult career, "Aled" and "Higher" are nothing short of superb......his voice is rich and velvety, and stirs the emotions of even the most hardened listener to tears of joy. "THE CHRISTMAS ALBUM" is divine, and quite possibly his best yet. Aled's voice is smoother and stronger than ever, which for someone who sings to perfection already gives testimony to this man's brilliance. Aled's choice of carols combine much-loved favourites with some lesser known lovely songs which are fast becoming as adored as the more familiar. You'll be moved by the passion with which he sings and the tranquillity he engenders. Silent Night is a sublime experience, with Hayley Westenra dueting with Aled. Hayley's exquisite, clear voice coupled with Aled's rich smoothness is the ultimate combination of two of the finest voices. The heavenly voices of Libera, accompanying Aled in some tracks, as they have done in his earlier CDs, are yet another beautiful aspect of this album. The boys of Libera sing like angels. Director, Robert Prizeman's consummate skill is evident once again in the wonderful musical arrangements. Aled's glorious voice is being shared by all my extended family and friends... I'm giving the best gift this Christmas....Aled's album all round. If you buy only one Christmas album for yourself this year, make it this one. You'll be inspired!

As a listener of ALL types of quality music from rock to classical.I was looking to buy an ALED JONES cd to chill out a bit as his voice is so amazing. So the obvious choice as I am not familiar with all his songs was to look for a Best of Aled Jones.I would like to thank the two reviewers Susie Veale and Gus Thomas for there positive comments which made me decide to buy the cd.The beautifull music on this QUALITY CD is amazing, anyone who has took the bother to look at this CD should purchase it as you certainly won't be disapointed A Real Pleasure to Meet you Again, Mr Jones, 12 Oct 2007

It has a fantastic selection of modern, meaningful and very uplifting worship songs by some of the top Christian artists: Matt Redman, Stuart Townend, Delirious? etc., and singing along to some of the tracks is its own prayer. One track and I was hooked!, 08 Dec 2007
With amazing lyrics & wonderful bass lines this album had me hooked from the first track. The variety of styles makes sure you don't get bored and the content of the lyrics gives much food for thought. I'd not heard this band before but they're definitely now on my gift list!
Not bad at all, 22 Sep 2007
I've really enjoyed listening to this album over the past couple of days.
I can't bring myself to give it five stars cause its not that good. Its got a few catchy songs and a few average ones. If you like this go a buy Third day - Wherever you are.
I really like what Casting Crowns are doing, the song lyrics really speak to me and it got some good tunes. Great album!!!
Another Great Release, 06 Sep 2007
Christian soft rock group Casting Crowns has taken the Christian music world by storm thanks to two strong previous releases. And their third project should continue the trend.
The group has captured audiences with challenging lyrics and great music. There's nothing earth shattering with either, but both work together to create some great music.
The disc starts off with the rock anthem "What This World Needs." Think "If We are the Body" but faster. The song reminds us that the world needs Christ more then it needs 100% perfect outward appearances. After all, the heart is what counts.
The title of the album comes from the idea that somewhere between hearing what we should do during church (the altar) and driving away (the door), we loose the certainty and conviction we had. I'll just say been there, done that. That theme is explored in two songs. The first is the title track, which really explains the theme better then I ever could. And it's rather convicting to hear my struggle put into words. The second is the next track, "Somewhere in the Middle." In fact, the phrase "between the altar and the door" shows up in this song, too. The song is a challenge to get out of the luke warm world we too often live in.
As with other Casting Crown's CDs, this one features a couple worship songs. And, once again, they don't grab me. There's nothing wrong with "I Know You're There" and "All Because of Jesus," but they aren't as special as some of their other tracks.
My two favorite songs are back to back. "Slow Fade" is a challenge to all men to not fall away from the faith. It really drives home the importance of constantly standing guard because no one crumbles in a day. It's a slower song with a haunting sound. And it ends with lead singer Mark Hall's daughter singing "Because Little Eyes." It's enough to give me chills.
Appropriately enough, the next song is "East to West." As you might guess, this song talks about forgiveness. It explores the difficulty we have in accepting God's forgiveness and the weight of shame we try to live under. As with so many of their songs, the lyrics are powerful.
Musically, there are few surprises here for the long time fan. But that's just fine because their music is wonderful.
I'm surprised I haven't worn out Casting Crown's first two releases I've listened to them so often. This one will certainly suffer the same fate.
They did it again, 03 Sep 2007
I have Casting Crowns two previous albums and was eager to get my hands on this. It did not disappoint. The lyrics are just as good and they will ask just as many questions as the first two did. You may have heard "East to West" on the radio. It is such a beautiful song and it will tell you the truth - that God loves you. But so will all the other songs and I can't pick a favorite although the last one is definitely among them. This is an album that will challange your faith and leave you wondering if you are on the way to the alter or to the door. And that is what any good christian cd should.

Fantastic hard rock. A must!!!, 20 Oct 2007
Have just bought this cd and it is excellent. From the outset the song Rebirthing is a real classic. Hard rock at its best. The cd really doesn't have a poor track throughout. They are a Christian band with positive lyrics which is refreshing considering some of the doom and gloom around nowadays. Buy, you won't regret.
Brilliant !!, 12 Aug 2007
I can truly say that this is a really good album, as are all Skillet's other albums. This is an album that truly uplifts the soul. I have few favourites from this album, including 'Rebirthing, The lastnight and Yours to hold' a brilliant album and the tracks are in good order.
They are really a gifted group. I would be surprised if anyone didn't like their songs. All i can say is, be open minded. If you liked their other albums then you will like this one. But then there is a first time for everything. They're a good band guys. Try it! Give it a go.
Skillet Da BOMB!, 19 Jun 2007
I started listening to Skillet from their Collide album and loved them. I bought this album not knowing what to expect seeing as this album (from other sites) had been getting bad reviews. Well I can assure you they don't know what they're talking about. The album is great and fresh although i missed the screaming that they had on their previous albums. (That's my only gripe. Not really a good one either.) Songs are lovely, also Coopers wife has an excellent voice(thought i should mention it). Better than drugs is my favourite song. Check these guys out you wont be disappointed.
Awesome, 18 Apr 2007
This album is just awesome. With nearly every album I've ever bought, I've had to listen to it 2 or 3 times before really starting to like it, however I loved this album right from the first time I heard it.
Before buying this album I had only heard "Rebirthing" and "The Older I Get" so I wasn't really sure what to expect, however I can assure anyone reading this that if you liked them this album is definitely for you.
I would say that one of my favourite things about the album, is that not only is every song brilliant, but they are in the perfect order, each song kind of leads into the next and the whole album just sounds 'right'.
This is definitely an album you can listen to over and over and never get bored of, just make sure you turn the volume right up.
Yeah, it's good..., 05 Jan 2007
The album has some great tracks that stay with you (Rebirthing, Comatose and Whispers in the Dark are some) but these tracks are dotted around the album, and the ones in between you can hardly say anything special about sometimes.
Don't get me wrong; this is a good album, with a good strong feel applied to themes such as waking up to God and sticking with it in this life. But the inspired feel isen't a consistent one.
Worth owning for the good tracks if you feel the need for some strong emotional stuff.

Reviews really help a lotA, 07 Aug 2008
Christian music 'critique', 31 Mar 2008
Great music with awesome lyrics, 26 Oct 2008
This CD suprised me with it's contemprora lyrics and music. Especially I liked Jesus Messiah, God of this city and God Almigty. Four stars because the album has a bit too many similar songs.
