The best album, 20 Nov 2008
I have bought this album and cannot stop listening to it. There are a few tracks on this album which are my favourites but the whole album is great and I have listened to it non stop since I bought it.
It comes indoors and then back out to the car when I am travelling.
If you like Enya you will love this album.
Beautiful , 19 Nov 2008
This album has far exceeded my expectations. I was a bit sceptical about the 'Christmas Theme', but this album is truly beautiful. I do not think Enya's voice has ever sounded better. This is the perfect album for this time of year, but i probably will listen to it throughout the year too. If only one of the songs on this album could be Christmas number one rather than the normal rubbish that seem to top the bill!
So glad to have Enya back and as good as EVER!, 18 Nov 2008
I have been a Enya fan since Watermark, and always buy her albums straight away, i had forgot to sign up to her newsletter, so didn't know about this album till a few days before the release, quicky ordered it and WOW how good is this album!!
Yes it has a winter theme, but I know I will be playing this anytime of the year (I like to put 5 Enya CDs on my hifi and play them on random, bliss!) The first track And winter came... is pure Enya, the perfect way to get back into the Enya Magic, the single Trains and Winter Rains is in the vain of Anywhere is, again so beautiful, but the highlight for me is track 11 My! My! Time Flies! a bit of a new direction for Enya with electric guitar and a lot more folk than celtic, but it is fantastic, just makes you want to sing along.
So another wait well worth the wait!, will be played Xmas eve, Xmas Day, Boxing day and on and on!!!
If you are new to Enya, i recommend the best put together greatest hits album Only Time: the Collection a beautiful package and well worth every penny!
Looking forward to more from the Queen of Irish music!
Enya at her best, 15 Nov 2008
I'll start by saying I haven't heard the album yet, but I did hear the single. As with all her material this is Enya at what she does best: create a mood that conjures up images of winter and evenings by the fire.
If you need to wind down from the busy schedule of daily life, be it summer or winter, this is where you go and immerse yourself in her music.
It was only time before she released a winter-themed album, and now she has. I will love every minute of it.
A welcome return, 15 Nov 2008
I have every album Enya has released and this latest effort is a welcome addition to her portfolio.'And Winter Came' is very much based around Christmas time which could limit it's year round appeal. But although what Enya does is predictable she does do it in a very professional way and continually shows herself to be an excellent artist.
The standout tracks on this album are the more up tempo numbers 'White Is In The Winter Night','Trains And Winter Rains'and perhaps my favourite 'My!My!Time Flies'.The latter actually includes a guitar solo and Enya singing in a slightly different way and I think that it works well. Some of the slower tracks 'O Come,O Come ,Emmanuel','The Spirit Of Christmas Past' and 'Oiche Chiuin' have the feel of being performed in a cathedral with their haunting melodies and again they are effective.
You do know what you will get with this album but I still recommend it without any doubts. When you have a load of Christmas presents to wrap up just stick on this CD and lose yourself to the lovely sounds of a special talent. She looks great on the cover too!I give this five stars simply because it is so relaxing and perhaps her best release for quite a while

Soothing, relaxing and inspiring, 01 Nov 2008
This disc is simply beautiful. Two are its main characteristics:continuity and change. Continuity relates to individual tracks which display a pronounced element of recursion that is repetition with slight variation of the same theme which promotes a feeling of soothing, calm and relaxation. Recursion is something employed successfully in distinctly different areas:in music famously employed by J.S.Bach to excellent effect in his baroque compositions, in graphics by Escher and in Mathematics by Goedel while it forms the basis of fractal Geometry. The change is provided by the eight tracks each exploring a different theme or to use the more sophisticated word of the liner note a different 'soundscape'. This combination of continuity and change along with the beauty of the melody in each track are what provide this disc its unique fascination. The quality and clarity of the sound are excellent while the price of the disc inexpensive. The rare and attractive combination of these characteristics is seemingly too good to be true but it is true. I could not recommend this disc more wholeheartedly.
Calm by tony white, 14 Jun 2008
I love love love this Cd. It is gentle and calming and exactly right for massage use and other calming therapies. There various tunes some with lilting vocals and ethenic influences. One tune reminds me a bit of Omars there is nothing like this as the intro is similar bass line of guitar. All my cleints love it and I listen to it over and over with out getting bored. It is just the right hint of relaxation and tuneful melodies. I highly recommend it to all. It is a good unwind at end of the day cd too.It has great mix of asain and western influences and I will be looking out for more of this type of Cd as does what it says.
Lovely and relaxing, 12 Jan 2008
I brought this to listen to while meditating. The music is lovely and relaxing it is also nice to listen to while doing the housework. It is a great CD.
Calm is the right title, 27 Jan 2005
I purchased this CD to see if would help me to relax. It is so good that when I play it I actually fall asleep. The tunes are so haunting, yet calming and you just find yourself floating. I bought the same CD for my daughter who gets really stressed out at Uni. This CD has even managed to de-stress her and she loves it too. I am actually buying another one so I can leave one at home, and take another one abroad. I would recommend this CD to anyone who just wants an hour of relaxation. Excellent value for money too.
Calm, 04 Dec 2003
Wow I absolutely LOVE this CD! It's so chilled and I fell asleep as I was so relaxed listening to it. Definitely recommend this, especially if you want to listen to it when you've gone to bed, it creates the right atmosphere for restful sleep. I bought this as a present, but I've decided to keep it instead....sorry H!!

Product Description
Karl Jenkins' The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace is a departure from his Adiemus recordings into the more conventional territory of large-scale choral and orchestral writing, though his customary passion for mixing languages remains in full force with texts in English, Latin and French. Jenkins has said that The Armed Man was inspired by the "L'Homme armé" masses which were popular in the 16th century, and he makes this debt clear with passages written in a neat pastiche of Palestrina-style renaissance polyphony. There are also echoes of earlier and later styles, including plainchant, medieval ballads, James Barry-style horn writing (think Goldfinger) and even a direct quote from Rigoletto (the choir imitates wind sounds at one point as in Act 3 of Verdi's opera). The smorgasbord manages to hold together, probably because Jenkins' obvious sincerity shines through every note. The London Philharmonic Orchestra plays beautifully, and treble Tristan Hambleton performs his solo with ethereal clarity. The National Youth Choir sings with vigour and accuracy, even if the young sopranos sound a little thin at the top of their range. If you liked the soundtrack to The Mission, this should press all the right buttons. --Warwick Thompson

Amazon Review a bit off, 10 Aug 2008
I would guess that the Amazon reviewer Warwick Thompson is under 25.
Anyway, he writes as if he is, judging by his use of the English language
("think Goldfinger", eeeeeeeeh!).
He also believes that L'Homme Armee is 16th century. Oh dear.
I find the reviews of the actual buyers much more to the point, wheher positive or negative.
Pity that the text of the Amazon reviewer is displayed at the top.
OK?
Emotional music, 29 May 2008
This piece just reduces me to tears - probably because my closet friend served in both the Falklands War and the first Gulf War.
A most moving piece of music - to anyone's ears, if only they've got ears to hear.
I am singing it with my choir this year and find it almost impossible to sing it without welling-up.
Worth every penny of the CD's price.
Meretricious pap, 26 May 2008
I'm sorry but anyone who thinks this is good music needs to get out more. At best it's second-rate, at worst it's meretricious pap. For anti-war music listen to Britten's War Requiem, for settings of the mass listen to any one of a hundred composers who have done it better. Stick to Adiemus Karl, you'll never hack it as a proper composer.
surprised, 30 Apr 2008
I wasn't keen on Adiemus, and wasn't expecting to like this, though I had heard bits on classic fm that grabbed my attention (while working with the radio on).
However, I do find this enjoyable from start to finish, skipping over the muezzin's prayer (which I could hear out my window in certain locales). Maybe it is not complex, but there are surprising moments and there is plenty of passion throughout.
Obviously this is something that splits opinion, so I must be a prole. Yes, I even like Andrew Lloyd Webber at times. But then I also listen to Arvo Part, to Tavener and others in abundance, alongside the likes of Ali Farka Toure and Santana (in his prime), so... I consider myself to be without baggage but not without ears. It's worth a listen. Make up your own mind.
The worst piece of music I have ever performed., 10 Mar 2008
I have been singing since I was a chorister at the age of 8 and I am sorry, but 17 years later this the only peace that I would never perform again. It is musically uninspiring and monotonous. I am sorry that I will be accused of being elitist but I know of no redeeming features for this work.

Product Description
New Age diva Enya first became widely known when her 1988 album Watermark sold 4 million copies and launched the single "Orinoco Flow". Her follow-up, Shepherd Moons, was even more successful, selling over 10 million copies despite its slightly lower grade of ethereal enchantment. In 1997 she released Paint the Sky with Stars, an assortment of her best work from these two early albums plus gems from 1995's The Memory of Trees and the soundtrack to the BBC series The Celts. The most melodic and atmospheric examples of Enya's lovely Celtic-flavoured songwriting shine on this disc. Those unfamiliar with the former Clannad member will find charm in such sweet lullabies as "Marble Halls" and "China Roses" while delighting in the more energetic "Book of Days", "Storms in Africa" and "Caribbean Blue". Overall, an outstanding collection from an artist who gives New Age a good name. --Karen Karleski

THE BEST OF ENYA, 10 Aug 2007
Paint the Sky With Stars: The Best of Enya is an excellent 16-song overview of Enya's career, containing 14 selections from The Celts, Watermark, Shepherd Moon, and The Memory of Trees -- including "Caribbean Blue," "Anywhere Is," "Marble Halls," "Book of Days," and, of course, "Orinoco Flow" -- as well as two previously unreleased songs ("Only If...," "Paint the Sky With Stars") that fit comfortably with her past work. Although Enya is, in many ways, an album artist that creates a mood and sustains it through the course of one disc, this is a fine sampler for listeners who only want the hits and highlights.
Paint the Sky with Five Stars, 19 Feb 2007
The best of of the best from the very best. How better can you get. This is the
"Manchester United" of albums. Every song is like a star player each etched with different skills as per musical composition, ensemble, and memorable lyrics- one of which is my email signature"Ever and always, Always and Ever,Time gave both darkness and dreams to you. Now you can see Spring becomes autumn, leaves become gold, falling from view.
Even if this album were priced at £100, I'd still get it; also one of the few albums, I'd regard as a future heirloom. What's good about it is that you can select any track;Be it Far and Away, China Roses, Storms in Africa etc etc.Too good;I can readily see the 2nd volume of this "Best of" Collection in the near future.
By Far the Brightest Star, 28 Jan 2007

While this is obviously tailored towards a stress filled society and is to be recommended for that, I personally enjoy the relaxing music `panpipes mellow moods' which I found by accident on amazon.co.uk The cd I possess from this site have a variety of stunning sounds tailored towards the relaxation market which I can recommend anyone who is searching into this particular genre. This cd is highly recommended and great to sleep or meditate too. If you go to their product description you will see their website they have samples for you to listen too as well. You can't go wrong!
Relaxing, 07 May 2008
This CD is very relaxing. The songs go deep to your soul, and sound so familiar for some reason. Anyway they're fantastic and I'm listening to them right now, not for the first time. Just thought I'd add another five star review to the bunch because this CD deserves it.
A must have for relaxing., 24 Mar 2008
I bought this cd for my 11 year old daughter who was finding it hard to go to sleep. She recieved this and the calming cd in the post about 3 weeks ago and played them that night she fell asleep with no trouble and she has played them every night since! Another bonus of these cds is that they are such good value too. I would recommend these to anyone.
Fabulous!!, 25 Jul 2007
I bought this CD as I have recently started working from home offering beauty treatments and wanted something to play as background music. This fits the bill perfectly.
I have also just found out that I am expecting our first baby and have played this CD to help me relax. It's so peaceful that I am sure to be packing it to have in the delivery room!!

She looks great on the cover too!I give this five stars simply because it is so relaxing and perhaps her best release for quite a while Soothing, relaxing and inspiring, 01 Nov 2008
I am sorry that I will be accused of being elitist but I know of no redeeming features for this work. paint the sky with stars, 18 Nov 2008
when i bourght this cd i found the delivery and timeing was great and when i listened to the cd i fell in love with the musice thank you THE BEST OF ENYA, 10 Aug 2007
This 16-track compilation is the perfect way to get acquainted with one of the best-selling female entertainers of all time. Paint the Sky with Stars compiles 14 selections; from her debut album (Watermark) to her 1995 output (The Memory of Trees), plus two completely new cuts that sits perfectly well with her old ones. I've always thought of Enya as an album artist, and she mainly is, but she also happens to put out great singles such as the rhythmic flow of "Caribbean Blue," "Anywhere Is" and of course is perhaps biggest hits "Orinoco Flow." This album manages to gather some of her finest moments; from the chanting ballad of "The Celts" to the lilting new cut "Only If." I'm so glad that they included the lovely "Boadicea" and especially the enchanting standard "Marble Halls." All in all, this compilation is the perfect introduction to one of music's finest visionaries. It thrills, but at the same time, keeps you warm. A brilliant nostalgia hit for me, 25 Jul 2006
I bought this CD in a abit of a nostalgia run, remembering when I had a self-recorded tape of it, and a lonely little girl used to sit and make up intricate fantasy worlds to the tracks on this album.
It's just as fantastic as I remembered, those fantasy worlds are coming right back, and I feel inspired and alive agin. Amazing what some music can do for a girl, huh?
Enyas music is beautiful, ethereal and haunting, ranging from quit dark sounding tracks to delicate creations.
A must for anyone who loves beauty and beautiful voices. boring..., 26 Sep 2008
it is not even good to fall asleep with. Got on my nerves and never listen to it since. There are alot better albums of prominent composers... good, 16 Jul 2008
Wonderfully Relaxing, 28 Sep 2008
For less than £4 this CD is well worth buying. The other reviewers who gave it 5 stars are not wrong. It does create a sense of peacefulness and calm. tranquil, 31 Aug 2008
This music was used at my T'ai Chi class and I was delighted to see it on Amazon. It is absolutely beautiful and very calming ,even just to listen to but NOT when driving!I don't think the instrumentals are intrusive, rather complementary and not intrusive, but then I'm not a music expert. This really connetced for me Relaxing , 12 Jul 2008
Really special to meditate to. Beautiful mood creation and so relaxing after a hectic day. best new age music, 11 Jun 2008
I normally do not like new age music as it misses the soul, I chanced this after reading the above reviews, and I have to agree, it has a lovely fresh sound, and Iam delighted with it. Lilias Buddhist chants, 12 Apr 2008
If you buy one buddhist chant / meditation / peace cd in your life, make it this one. I bought this in 1998 when I lived in Cape Town and no other cd has came close. It is beautiful and uplifting and just the most wonderful cd. A sublime experience...there's an x factor here that cant be missed., 30 Oct 2008
This album is groundbreaking on many levels. This is mainly down to the first "track", the heavenly music corporation, which is almost palimpsest-like, in that the reverse and slow speed incarnations are both here (there are explainations given as to why..chortle away at the history), and its the same piece of music...yet it sounds different enough to warrant inclusion.
Being a composer/producer, I noticed a sizeable difference in the audio quality of this master compared to the previous incarnation of the album. Everything is crisper, and more punchier, WITHOUT losing the ambient remit which this album perhaps inadvertantly ended up setting (eno's truer ambient works started later). Swastika girls is more raucous and simmery/ glittery depending on your auditory/ kinasthetic disposition, and quite a volte-face to the first "track". It still works well, but isnt so immediately accessible. There's more trickery here, and obvious overdubs, compared to the first, which was just the dual revox and pedalboard set-up.
24 bit mastering, coupled with lots of extra tracks, track markers/indents to make it easy to get to your faveourite parts, crisp repackaging...every boy needs this album. Especially if your an affecianado of electronica AND guitarwork.
Classless, if no longer peerless. What the Fripp do Eno, 07 Oct 2008
I agree with much that has been said about the excellence of this album but surely Amazon have scored 1 star agian for lumping all the old reviews for the originalk CD version of this album into the page for this new version. I looked this up to try to get a handle on the "reversed" and "half speed" versions that are included in this 2 CD edition. Sadly there does not seem to be any.
To my ears the half speed version of Heavenly Music Corporation is very heavy and dense. You will not want to play this on anything that can not cope with very deep bass sounds. The reversed Swatsika Girls version sounds very similar to the forwards version. Great stuff Groundbreaking ambient guitar soundscape record, 18 Jan 2007
Eno and Fripp developed a tape loop feedback system to apply to the guitar work of Robert Fripp. This recording shows the system off to its maximum potential and consists of two long tracks that explore a soundscape entirely invented by their unique musical talents. Swooping guitar sounds combine with synthesised textures in what can sometimes begin to feel very dense. There is a lot of detail in the treatments as well and these maintain the listeners interest. Despite the age of the record it does bear repeated listenings and my copy gets a regular airing at home. An essential Fripp & Eno recording and one of the better examples of Fripp's work. fripp and eno: THE heavenly music co.!, 31 Jul 2004
1973's 'no pussyfooting' is a classic example of two artists at the top of their respective games collaborating to create something magnificent. in this case it was king crimson guitarist robert fripp (inventor of the famous 'frippertronics' technique) and brian eno, legendary roxy music synthesizer twiddler. it's a majestic minimalist experiment that has little or no concern with the typical elements of rock. no rhythm section and no vocals, just a black gibson les paul guitar and some machines. it's ice-cold, eerie, sophisticated cover photo gives clues to the music within. the entire album consists of two side-length pieces, entitled 'the heavenly music corporation' and 'swastika girls'. 't.h.m.c' is a grand, sweeping piece that shows off the stark contrast between the two artists. it's like hot and cold: the icy, relentless pulsing of eno's revox tape reels and synths, and the dense, earthy rumble of fripp's extended solos. it's stunning. at first, 'swastika girls' seems like a bit of a let down compared to the last twenty minutes, but it's not. again, the contrast is startling. eno's synths glitter and sparkle like the sun on water, twinkling until the last second. fripp's gibson enters quietly after around seven and a half minutes, building in intensity until it sounds like the turbo-charged turbine engine we heard on the first track. admittedly, the thought of an album with only two tracks each lasting twenty minutes and being entirely instrumental puts a lot of people off. i know that my parents and my mates hate this album, and that a lot of people dismiss this kind of music as wallpaper music, but i was stunned by it straight away. i love 'no pussyfooting' and you need only listen to a few seconds of the middle section of track one (the part where fripp almost paraphrases hendrix at woodstock '69) to know that this is anything but background. 'no pussyfooting' is apparently not the easiest cd in the world to get hold of, but it is well worth seeking it out, as is fripp & eno's second effort, 'evening star', which follows in the same formula but is a bit more concise. five stars, without a doubt. *****
Soothing Stuff, 29 Apr 2004
Although I have to say I'm not a big fan of Robert Fripp's, Brian Eno's eclectic career as a producer, composer and arranger always throws up something different. 'No Pussyfooting' was his first real attempt at a pseudo-solo album. As can be seen from the photo on the cover, he was still a member of Roxy Music at the time, but obviously felt limited by their 'pop' image in terms of his music making. Ironically Eno was probably the most outrageous looking member of Roxy Music (which maybe one of the reasons Brian Ferry wanted him to leave). But since beginning his solo career his music has become the very epitome of the "non-image". Music that never speaks to the emotions or the intellect but simply floats in and around your environment or situation.
On the 'Heavenly Music Corporation' most of this ambience is created by Fripp, developing a technique that would later be described as 'Frippertronics'. Track after track is layered on top of each other as Fripp plays dense harmonies in tune with each other. In fact most of the background track is just a dense layer of protracted harmony, dispensing with any notion of melody altogether. But when Fripp starts to improvise his pseudo-stadium rock solos, the effect can be mildly soothing. At the end of the piece Fripp's dive-bombing effects are quite startling, endlessly looping a false ending. 'Swatika Girls' sounds mostly like the work of Eno but unfortunately is not as inventive as the first track. Too many instruments vie for attention and when Fripp's improvisations come in at the end, they sound like the cry of something uncontrollable trying to break free from a repetitive 'Groundhog Day' backing track.

Product Description
Enya's 1988 recording, Watermark, achieved landmark success with her groundbreaking use of multi-tracking technology to fuse new age and Celtic themes and instrumentation. The meticulous production defines her sound and achieves continuity even while weaving together tender ballads, piano pieces, massively layered vocal harmonies and symphonic synthesizer movements. Although Enya's pristine voice isn't especially strong, her lead vocals possess a vulnerability that reflects the lyrics' sense of personal searching. From the ubiquitous, frothy single "Orinoko Flow" to the hard, bold edge of "Cursum Perficio", Enya's style remains fresh and engaging. --Richard Price

Yes it has a winter theme, but I know I will be playing this anytime of the year (I like to put 5 Enya CDs on my hifi and play them on random, bliss!)
