Product Description
When Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks collaborated on the Academy Award-winning Saving Private Ryan, an abiding passion to further honour the young fighting soldiers of WWII was born in both men, resulting in Band of Brothers, an ambitious 10-part mini-series based on historian Stephen Ambrose's account of a 101st Airborne regiment as it fought its way across Europe. In scoring the sweeping project, Michael Kamen has eschewed much of the martial music familiar from past war epics in favour of the quiet, largely introspective sound that has informed modern battle films from Platoon through Private Ryan and The Thin Red Line. And if his reverential, often somber tones capture the dignity of the soldiers and the gravity of the events, they sometimes do so at the expense of other human dimensions--and the lively pop music of the 1940s. Still, Kamen's work strikes an impressive balance, fusing the pastoral with subtle modern rhythm touches and utilising spare piano solos, a darkly ironic use of Beethoven's String Quartet in C-Sharp Minor, and a memorable, elegiac main theme. --Jerry McCulley

Band of Brothers (Kamen) [Soundtrack]., 06 Dec 2005
If you liked the series you will love the sound track. You will end up in a world of your own plus it's so relaxing just make sure you don't leave the kettle on! Fans of the Show, 05 Feb 2004
This rating is based on the fact that I'm a big fan of the series. The music is wonderfully evocative and is great for easy listening background music. If the Theme music for the series moves you then this is for you especially if you like classical music.
Unmatched Accompaniment to a Majestic Series, 29 Aug 2003
Since purchasing this album, I've listened to virtually nothing else. The Main Theme alone is probably one of the most moving pieces of music written in the last fifty years; the two Suites are admirable and vastly 'listenable' alternative takes on the rest of the score, and the selection that makes up the rest of the album is superb. The string quartet is enough to make you cry, and the final track, featuring a choral accompaniment to the main theme is strangley uplifting. The TV series is the ultimate statement of there being no glory in war, only infinite sadness, and this album echoes and enhances that sentiment without becoming mawkish. I know of no other soundtrack that both matches its source perfectly, yet remains a masterpiece in its own right. Utterly, utterly wonderful.
Excellent, 21 Jan 2002
This Soundtrack recaptures the moving account of the famous Easy Company in the Band of Brothers series. It's not hard to feel very emotional when listening to the various tracks.Highly recommended
Emotional bliss!, 02 Jan 2002
Superb from the first moment that you here the main theme you know this is something special! Haunting, perfect and captures a past time superbly, soundtracks don't get much better than this! To add to this the two Band Of Brothers Suite's are excellent, all the music reminds you of scene's from the series and its finale with Austria and the exceptional Band Of Brothers Requim put this in a class of its own. Michael Kamen should be proud, this music is everything it should be and a little more. Buy and listen! For any person who likes classical film music this belongs right up there with John Williams! Superb and the emotional impact is huge. Thank you for producing such a wonderfull soundtrack!

Product Description
HBO's Mafia masterpiece The Sopranos is a remarkable television series--it's witty, creative, and truly unique. The same praises could be sung for a show's soundtrack, an odd but fun mix of beats, classic rock, and--what else?--Mafia-staple Sinatra. Alabama 3's theme "Woke Up This Morning (Chosen One Mix)" gets things off to a lively start, as does bluesman R.L. Burnside's "It's Bad You Know" (from his Come On In remix album). Bob Dylan's "Gotta Serve Somebody" (from his Slow Train Coming album), Bruce Springsteen's "State Trooper", and Elvis Costello's "Complicated Shadows" aren't tracks you'll hear on the local classic rock station, but they work perfectly here. And when was the last time you heard both Little Steven & the Disciples of Soul and Nick Lowe on TV? In short, a great, eclectic collection. --Jason Verlinde

not sopranos at all - in fact theres no opera at all on this record
Nice mix, 03 Apr 2005
A pretty cool compilation, some great lesser known tracks from well known artists. I especially like the mo-town sounding little richard track and th sinatra track 'When I was 17'. A great CD to put on as back ground music when doing your household chores!
A dish best served cold, 31 Jul 2003
OK corny title but what do you expect from a soundtrack inspired by one of the hippest and meanest programmes ever to have emerged from the stables of HBO (Barring OZ) The Sopranos has some of the coolest tunes on one CD. As well as getting the theme tune by Scottish band A3 other tunes of distinction include the classic Frank Sinatra track It Was A Very Good Year (brings a lump to my throat and tears to my eyes, Nick Lowe's The Beast In Me and the Eurythmic's I've Tried Everything. No home should be without this.... Or should I send the boys round!!!!!!
The perfect accompaniement to New Jersey Mafia life, 20 Aug 2000
What the producers would have found most difficult when compiling this soundtrack must have not been the original choice of incidental music but the paring down of the wealth of material used on the TV show to a 55-minute CD. What we have as the result of their work is a rag-tag band of different styles of music which segue into each other with no warning. Although the soundtrack keeps coming apart at the seams in terms of playing order, it is impossible not to sit back and ignore the fact that what you are listening to is perfect in tone to a slice of New Jersey Mafia life. The first half of the CD is so pitch-perfect that you can forgive the inclusion of Los Lobos and Wyclef Jean which mar an otherwise equal second half. To kick off with A3's "Woke Up This Morning" and journey through Mafia stalwart/favourite Frank Sinatra, an eclectic Bob Dylan and soulful Nick Lowe before finishing on a soft and poignant note with The Eurythmics is a very rewarding listen. Whether it will be to everyone's taste will be another matter. If not, I think we need Tony, Pussy and Spider to do a little persuading.....

Product Description
This 13-part TV adaptation of Defoe's classic story is one of the most comprehensive of the many versions made for large or small screen over the years. It was a huge success when broadcast on both sides of the Atlantic in the mid-1960s. One aspect of its appeal was the title theme, which was so popular it was released as a single. The "Main Theme" is an adventurous piece with a slightly melancholy lilt. Thankfully it doesn't re-appear endlessly throughout the score. One effect that does--and takes a little getting used to--is a manipulated bass guitar which strikes what can only be described as "wet" notes! Overall the score is a very varied work, as you'd expect from so much material, including flashbacks that expanded beyond Defoe's original island perimeters. This allowed the composers to stretch beyond merely painting a portrait of loneliness and to capture the quaintness of the English countryside ("Escapades in York") as well as lush beauty of a tropical paradise ("Exploring the Island"). --Paul Tonks

Magical Music from a Magical Series from a Magical Time, 06 Feb 2007
I bought this album after a search as basically I could not get the theme music out of my head after 40 plus years.
The haunting themes remain one of the great TV programme soundtracks. They were never obtrusive but added to the atmosphere to a stupendous series.
Much recommended to all 40 somethings and makes this reviewer wish for the simpler life and entertainment we had in those halcyon days of the 60's and 70's
you forgot..., 13 Jul 2006
Mentioned before were...Whirlybirds, Champion The Wonderhorse, Belle And Sebastian, Casey Jones, White Horses and best of all, The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe.
But you forgot THE FLASHING BLADE :)
Highly recommended - evocative and beautiful music, 13 Mar 2006
For people of a certain age (40-50) this music evokes treasured memories of childhood. The TV series and the music that went with it had a powerful impact on me as a child and I suspect on many others of my age too - Why? The storyline of Robinson Crusoe can be read on a number of levels - the shipwrecked sailor lost and alone, the contrast between civilisation and the wild, unpredictable but beautiful natural world. The storyline also serves as a metaphor for the many situations all of us encounter at various stages of our lives when we find ourselves struggling in the face of adversity and reminds us that we are all vulnerable and ultimately alone. At these times we need to emulate Robinson Crusoe by showing a determination to overcome our problems and never give in. For me the music reflects all of these emotions wonderfully well. Classically based but with touches of 60's lounge music that tie it to that era. It is both powerful and delicate and truly beautiful. For some of us it is a soundtrack to our childhood and to life. What more can I say? Buy this album, you won't be disappointed.
An absolute joy, 05 Jul 2005
I completely agree with the review prior to mine . I have longed for this music for 30+ years and had searched for it the same length of time . When I found out that is was now available I ordered it and when it arrived I wept with joy . After a lifetime of collecting albums etc I can now say that I have every piece of music I have ever wanted and Robinson Crusoe is now and forever my most treasured CD. I can never hear enough of that main theme and the following tracks which expand on the theme ( sometimes in slower renditions ) are so beautiful I find it hard not to cry . They evoke the memory of myself as a child every time when the world was a better place and I find myself transported back to 1969/70 when I would watch on Sat mornings before going out to play football. I was lucky enough to hear the full story of how the recordings were found and released from the people at Silva screen records and the remaining composer who died not long after the CD was released which makes this music ever more poignant . When I see and hear the mindless putrid tuneless garbage that is modern music today on Mtv , TOTP etc etc then what a joy it is to get lost in the glorious melodies of this beautiful suite .The only complaint I have is that it is in mono which was to be expected for the time however there is a stereo suite at the end by a European orchestra . I have only two words to say to anyone pondering about it BUY IT .
The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe, 23 Dec 2004
I am not usually so taken by things that I feel that I have to put it in writing. This CD is an exception. As soon as I heard the first few bars of the haunting main theme, I was transported back to my younger days. I can remember the anticipation as I waited for the programme to start, and I now know that it was as much for the music as it was for the story itself. I sat there entralled as I listened to the whole of the CD. It was incredible to think that I last saw this about 30 years ago, and yet each tune gave me the appropriate feeling as I checked it against the listing, remembering how Crusoe was suppposed to be feeling in each situation. If you are 40 - 55 ish and you have a sense of nostalgia, coupled with the gift of recognising musical expression, then you must buy this CD. For what was apparently a low budget TV series, the mood music is absolutely fantastic, and for me it ranks alongside the classical greats by composers such as Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin et al, and easily compares (for me) with any comtemporary music. Buy it - you won't regret it.

Like most "overnight sensations", Vonda Shepard had been slogging away for quite a spell--more than a decade's worth of touring, and three previous albums to be precise--before getting to grab the brass ring via the hit TV show Ally McBeal. This disc reprises most of the cover songs Shepard performed during the series' first year, from the ubiquitous "Hooked on a Feeling" to a lovely reading of the 1960s nugget "Walk Away Renee". But to Shepard's credit, the smattering of originals don't suffer too much in comparison: in fact, her "Searchin' My Soul" is one of the album's strongest moments. --David Sprague

Great cd! I love it!, 22 May 2001
When I listen to this cd, and close my eyes, I can see Ally and all the others dancing in their place! Vonda is sitting by the piano, playing, and I feel kind'a like Ally McBeal, feeling either very happy, or very sad(depending on the song)! And I think there are so many beautyful songs, that can make you either laugh or cry, and I love that! I think it's a great cd! Good job Vonda! Love, Julie S.
Loud Lady just doesn't seem to get it, 01 Feb 2001
The music in Ally McBeal adds so much atmosphere to the programme, it can make you laugh and it can make you cry. When I play this CD, I can take Ally with me where ever I go! And I can't wait for the Second Series video either! Well done Vonda.
Excellent, 16 Dec 2000
I would definitely recommend to buy it. Its one of those CD's you can listen to over and over again and never get tired of it. For all those Ally Mcbeal fans this is the CD you have been waiting for!
Apsolutely Brilliant!, 28 Oct 2000
This CD is the best soundtrack that has been released. I listen to it all the time, in the car, on my walkman, in the evenings on my CD player and more!! Ever since I saw the Ally McBeal episode "Boy Next Door" where Billy dies I have become suddenly hooked. Included in that episode are the songs "Neighbourhood" and "You belong to me" both great songs (My personal favourtite "Neighbourhood") I have to say that this is a MUST for all you Ally McBeal fans!!
go out and buy it - you won't regret, 01 Mar 2000
This have to be one of the best ever soundtracks, the songs are really great. You can listen to the album, no matter how your mood is. If you're really in a great mood, listen to "Tell Him", if you feel like going crazy "Searchin' My Soul" and if you feel sad and think that it's the world gone crazy listen to "The End Of The World" or if you simply feel like dancing, play "Hooked On A Feeling". Vonda's voice is really, totally great! And the choice of songs is superb. Is an album for all seasons, all times and all occations.

not what I was expecting, 10 Jun 2008
not sopranos at all - in fact theres no opera at all on this record
Is an album for all seasons, all times and all occations.
fantastic, 22 Oct 2003
A few dodgy tracks as to be expected on any album, however fantastic songs by the kinks, henry mancini and the police, cake, bob dylan, tindersticks, dominic chianese, elvis costello and casey chambers. A massive blend of different musical genres that truly is fantastic, only falls short of five stars due to several unremarkable tracks, a perfect companion to the series and a must buy for soprano fans and music fans alike
Another winner!, 20 May 2001
The second soundtrack follows a similar pattern to the first set, with more wonderfully eclectic and invigorating music, though now extended over two discs. Among those featured: Bob Dylan (with a track that can only be found here), Otis Redding, Nils Lofgrin, Cake, Frank Sinatra, Keith Richards, Ben E. King, Van Morrison, Dominic Chianese (who plays Uncle Junior in the series), Madreblu, the Rolling Stones, the Pretenders, the Kinks, Elvis Costello and a superb electronic duet with Henry Mancini and the Police that must be heard to be believed. Plus, it includes a wonderful 4-minute clip of series dialogue. With the first soundtrack disc being so tremendous, putting together a sequel that was nearly as good was a tough task. As Tony would say, "Done."

Product Description
Sarah Michelle Gellar may be saving the world from vampires but her TV show is also helping a few worthy bands get some much needed exposure. Dayton, Ohio's ridiculously prolific Guided by Voices lead things off with the playful "Teenage FBI," a strong distillation of the band's knack for the irrepressible hook. The all-femme Hepburn protest in true "Maggie's Farm" fashion (as in "I ain't gonna work on...") for the quickstepping, bubble-gum punk-pop of "I Quit". Bif Naked's arena anthem "Lucky" is perfect for staring at candles. Garbage are in suitably psychedelic glam shades for "Temptation Waits." Rasputina, the gothic cello ensemble, include the appropriate "Transylvania Concubine". The only misstep is from virtual old-timers the Sundays, who deliver a lazy-day version of the Rolling Stones' "Wild Horses." But this is made up for with the inclusion of Nerf Herder's "Buffy" theme song and Christophe Beck's instrumental theme music, which round out this all-inclusive collection. --Rob O'Connor

It grows on you, 19 Mar 2008
This is deeply satisfying music, ideal for immersing yourself in the gothic world of Sunnydale's club culture. The sometimes dreamy, sometimes lively, yet always slightly dangerous undertones of this dark album have the perfect balance of the familiar and the unexpected. From the murmuring sensuality of 'Virgin State of Mind' to the pure teenage attitude of 'I Quit' and the baroque sliding tones of 'Transylvanian Concubine', this is one to put on, sit back and sink into. Buffy fan or not, this album is just good music with a generous 18 tracks of indulgent hedonism.
Pure Class, 05 Jul 2007
At first- i thought this album was nothing special, but after listening to it a couple of times - it fast became one of my favouraite albums of all time.
Pretty much all the songs are amazing - apart from i suppose "Transylvanian Concubine' - Rasputina and "Temptation Waits" - Gudied by Voices are a bit weak.
The best songs, which are some of my favourite songs eva, are "I Quit - Hepburn", ' I Doesn't Matter - Alison Krauss & Union Station', 'Wild Horses - The Sundays" and PAIN - FOUR STAR MARY.
Any buffy fan should own this album and have fallen in love with it!
Radio sunnydale however, has nothing on this album - it only has a few half-decent songs on it.
Brill..!, 15 Nov 2006
When I first got this I was quite disappointed. I didn't listen to more than the first few seconds of the tracks. Then one day I actually listened to them and now think it is brilliant. I am not too impressed with 'Teenage FBI' but love 'Lucky', 'Nothing But You' and, best of all, 'Virgin State of Mind'. Give it a go. It even has Angie Hart's band - Splendid, which is always good.
Buffy Music Rocks!!, 15 Mar 2006
Ok i LOVE the show and the music if in my opinion one of the best things about it. This album is a must for all Buffy Fans, there is something for everyone. There are some fantastic upbeat tracks from Superfine (Season 1) and Face to Face (Season 4 Where The Wild Things Are), but if you want something more relaxing there is the beautiful 'It Doesnt Matter' by Alison Krauss which features in season 2 'When She Was Bad' and the epic 'Wild Horses' by The Sundays (think buffy and angel last dance) and one of the best tracks, 'Lucky' by Bif Naked from season 4. No Buffy Music Album would be complete without a Four Star Mary track and Pain is the best! This song feature is quite a few episodes from Dingoes Ate My Baby (Oz's Band) but Four Star Mary provide all their music (if you like this i recommend their album, Thrown To the Wolves) The tearful Chris Beck Score at the end is just perfect, the score right at the end of season 2 and the theme is continuous in all buffy-angel moments. The only disappointment is the absent Sarah McLachlen from the final scenes of Season 2 which are garunteed to get you crying. However I definately recommend this to all Fans!
Soundtrack to the slayer, 12 Aug 2005
I bought this soundtrack around 3 years ago, and even now it ranks as one of my favourite CD's in my 175 CD collection. There is such a varied mix of music on here, with the alternative sounds of Garbage, the pop infusion of Hepburn and the gothic melodies of Rasputina. My favourite tracks of this compilation are Temptation waits, It Doesn't Matter and Translyvanian Concubine. A lot of the songs on here are rock and alternative, but there are some acoustic and pop songs to appeal to anyone who wants a good album with some gems of tracks. I recommend this to any fan of buffy, or to anyone who just wants some unheard of songs that should be classics. Buy and enjoy for years as I have done!

Product Description
It's no exaggeration to say that, though it lasted only 30 episodes, Twin Peaks started a revolution in North American television. In partnership with unsung hero Mark Frost, the visionary filmmaker David Lynch (Eraserhead, Blue Velvet) brought his dark and surreal perceptions to the small screen. 1980's TV had been dominated by the glossy soap operas Dallas and Dynasty: Twin Peaks subverted their formula and opened the door for Northern Exposure and The X Files. Essential to the show's impact was the extraordinarily atmospheric score by Angelo Badalamenti, and the fragile, little-girl-lost vocals of Julee Cruise. The main themes, portraying the town of Twin Peaks itself, and murdered teenager Laura Palmer, alternate between a lush, decadent and world-weary poetry and a fairytale innocence. While on three songs--"The Nightingale", "Into The Night" and the gorgeous "Falling"--Julee Cruise seems to summon ghosts out of the misty, autumnal air. Elsewhere the composer blends lonesome synthesisers with mournful solo instruments, creating otherworldly textures hinting at the dreamlike jazz to come in his score for the feature version, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. Other notable Badalamenti-Lynch collaborations include Lost Highway and The Straight Story. --Gary S. Dalkin

Is an album for all seasons, all times and all occations.
fantastic, 22 Oct 2003
Atmospheric and spooky, 18 Oct 2002
One of the most outstanding soundtracks ever to enhance a TV series. Weep along to Laura Palmer's Theme, Admire Audrey's dance, vibe on Night Life In Twin Peaks and let Julee Cruise give you the sensation of a flotation tank with her dreamy vocals on Into The Night, The Nightingale and Falling. Ethereal sounds that appropriately encapsulate the mood of the series filled with a thousand secrets.
Edgy, and Original Soundtrack, 10 Oct 2002
This is a nicely crafted CD which is let down badly by the order of compilation, you have to keep skipping between tracks as some are nauseating and go on to long, however that is the only low point on this CD. With its array of musical instruments ranging from woodwind to flute, guiro to xylophone, the most moving and evocative track here is the love theme from ‘twin Peaks’ on track nine as there is more instrumental diversity than the standard ‘twin peaks theme’ on track 1, its overall effect is far more inspiring and romantic. The Julee Cruise numbers (Into the night and Nightingale) are a nice addition with her dreamy and insidious vocals, which overall perfectly complement the eerie, and haunting instrumentals. Though this CD does borrow heavily from the film ‘Blue Velvet’ you would barely notice as all ‘Lynchian’ music has a moody, bluesy, feel to it, this however benefits from Mark Frosts munificent gift of composing music, his stamp is well and truly all over it, in addition Julee Cruises ‘Falling’ is one of the most tender love songs ever written and it was a good idea for that to be the last track as it gives the soundtrack a nice ending which is antonymous of the series. Basically a great CD with a mix that kicks with unforgettable scores
Please buy this CD., 12 Jan 2002
Surely, everyone must have heard of the TV series Twin Peaks, and most will be aware of the huge impact it had on its premiere, ten years ago. Twin Peaks is still unbeaten as the most absorbing, complicated, thought provoking and convoluted soap ever made, and has to be one of the most significant TV series of all time. Part of the essential, unique Twin Peaks atmosphere is down to the music. Angelo Badalamenti's luscious score, full of gently absorbing and repeating motifs, is an essential. Completely beautiful, occasionally unsettling and always rewarding, the soundtrack immediately transports the listener to the town of Twin Peaks. Jazz-eccentricity, swaying grooves, eerie flutes whistling through forests: all are perfectly captured here. And, just when you think it can't get any better, Julee Cruise's immaculate vocals appear on a couple of tracks. The whispering, swirling sound of Julee's voice is the real sound of Twin Peaks. Occasionally eccentric, often heartbreakingly peaceful and lonely. Please buy this CD.
Brilliant and inspiring, 21 Dec 2001
I was thinking of giving this soundtrack 4/5 stars - after all, compared with soundtrack heavyweights like The Godfather, Twin Peaks with its three-or-four songs (and many variations thereof) seems a bit limited. But what songs they are - each one conjures up the elusive, ambiguous feel of the TV series instantly - the main theme has an immediate Lynch vibe, The Dance of the Dream Man is music to go mad to (clicking your fingers all the way) and is perhaps the best surrealist music (or music for surrealism) since Eraserhead, while the Laura Palmer theme makes me think I'm going to stumble across a dead cheerleader's body any moment now, even in the middle of a sunny day. No, you can't deny Badalamenti's musical genius - this is unarguably the greatest TV soundtrack ever made.
The essence of Twin Peaks captured on a small shiny disk, 06 Nov 1999
If you have ever watched, rewatched and rewatched and loved and lived and breathed the series, this CD will keep you right there in Twin Peaks. Even if you had never seen the series this music would still carry you to another world. It is just so weird and dark and lonely and beautiful and twisted and sad and deliriously emotional. Badalamenti is a genius.

Product Description
The writer of the theme tune for Ally McBeal, Vonda Shepard has become a fully-fledged American celebrity. She's no major-label diva, though--after being unceremoniously dumped by Warner Brothers when her first two albums didn't sell, Shepard was plucked from a tiny stage by David E Kelly, the creator of Ally McBeal, and within a year had attained stardom as Ally's muse, forever hovering in the background with a musical truism and some scraps of wisdom. Fans will be disappointed that Heart & Soul doesn't include McBeal theme tune Searchin' My Soul but there's much else besides; a strutting duet with Al Green, on "To Sir With Love", the world-against-the-girl blues of "World Without Love" and the bouncy pop of "Confetti". A collection of reserved, polished white-soul songs that are pleasingly lacking in bombast, pretension, or rough edges; this is perfect listening material for America's most neurotic lawyer. --Louis Pattison

Thank you for producing such a wonderfull soundtrack!
not what I was expecting, 10 Jun 2008
not sopranos at all - in fact theres no opera at all on this record
