The ultimate lights out, chill out album!, 13 Nov 2008
Lullaby: a Beautiful and Soothing Collection of Night Time Songs for Children and Grown Ups
This album calms & promotes sleep for our little girl, who is very, very resistant to sleeping! We play it every night at bedtime & then constantly through the evening to keep her asleep, so the repeat button gets a lot of use! The music compilations have been beautifully created & the music is very relaxing for us too! Even my 7 year old likes the CD. The songs literally get in your head & I find myself humming or singing them during the day! Wish we had found the CD earlier, and would recommend to anyone with young children. Can't wait for the rest of the collection to be available.
My baby loves this and so do I!, 14 Oct 2008
Since I've started playing this music to my 5 month old girl at bedtime, she's been so much easier to settle. As soon as I put it on she quietens down and listens to it, usually getting herself off to sleep without any help from me. I find it quite soothing myself and have fallen asleep listening to it. Most of the songs are fairly easy to sing along to if that's what your baby likes. I don't find the spoken bits annoying, but I don't know why they're included. I would definitely recommend this to other sleep deprived parents.

All I can say is WOW! Not only did the music create a lovely bed time routine with some of the songs that I already knew and could sing to, but it totally chilled out my daughter and sent her off to sleep, and I felt relaxed too! This is a must have.
Lovely CD, 13 Sep 2008
Really lovely CD, the singing voice is lovely and my 3 month old son loves it.
Best buy for my baby!, 08 Sep 2008

My son loves this CD and often asks for it to be on at breakfast (much to my wife's annoyance !)
Compared to other children's CDs I have to say it's the least irritating , but one thing that irks is some songs have a couple of verses while others (usually the ones you really like !) only have little snippets

Product Description
The John Rutter Christmas Album brings together most of the composer's Christmas songs and carols as well as several of his festive choral arrangements, including a rousing "Joy to the World" and the energetic "I saw three ships". Most of the 23 tracks have been taken from extant discs on Rutter's Collegium label although two, "Dormi, Jesu" and "Sans Day carol", were recorded especially for this release. Rutter's first two published compositions, written while he was still a teenager, were Christmas pieces for choir, namely the glorious "Nativity Carol" and the infectious "Shepherd's Pipe Carol". Although very different in character, these two carols (for which Rutter also wrote the test) display the composer's sense of joy and wonder at the Christmas story. More than 30 years later, those sentiments are still there in pieces such as the melting "Dormi, Jesu", commissioned by King's College, Cambridge for the 1999 Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. Under the direction of the composer, the youthful voices of the Cambridge Singers are on sparkling form, as are the City of London Sinfonia and vocal soloists Gerald Finley and Stephen Varcoe. This album deserves to be played over and over--and not just at Christmas. --Rebecca Agnew

Christmas Joy, 07 Mar 2008
I thought this CD had got lost in our recent house move and was delighted when it turned up in one the last boxes to be opened. I immediately rushed to listen again even though it is early March and am once again entranced by the warmth and beauty of the music and the singing. You really can play this CD anytime in the year and that is what I am doing now! If you buy it you will not be disappointed!
WOW - A 'must have' for Christmas, 22 Dec 2007
This CD is just fantastic - be blown away by The Cambridge Singers renditions of John Rutter's Christmas album - the definative version of some of the prettiest and most lyrical Christmas choral music you will ever hear. I just keep playing it over and over again.
Choir members will be inspired to get out their music to re-visit any of these beautiful carols they have sung in the past.
This would make the perfect stocking filler for anyone who appreciates choral singing from a choirboy to your grandmother - or just indulge yourself.
Beautiful CD., 20 Nov 2007
The more technical merits have already been pointed out. I have this on in the background now as its very relaxing. I recommend this as a Christmas treat to yourself, it is like being at an upmarket Carol concert (in a good way!) and when the music stops you find yourself putting it on again and again.
John Rutter's Box of Delights, 26 Dec 2002
This compilation of some of John Rutter's work should be in everyone's Christmas stocking. With sixteen of his own original creations he has added seven arrangements he has made of traditional Christmas music and that written by other composers. What is useful is the grouping of the music into parts - Prologue, The Christmas Story, Christmas Night, Christmas Reflections, Christmas Joy and Epilogue - which allows the listener to select a long or short programme if required. The performances, drawn from sources spanning the years 1985 to 2002, are sheer delight from beginning to end. The Cambridge Singers, with soloists Ruth Holton, Gerald Finlay and Stephen Varcoe, excel with the various moods and rhythms throughout, and the City of London Sinfonia adds stylish and colourful support. The direction of this wonderful festival of music for Christmas is in the capable hands of John Rutter himself who inspires his singers and players. If I were to single out any items from the programme, who could possibly resist the lilting rhythms of `Jesus child' and the `Donkey Carol', and the jaunty bounce of `We wish you a merry Christmas'? On the reflective side, the various lullabies all receive sensitive performances. If you are looking for the perfect combination of joy and reverence, not only at Christmas but at any time of year, you could not possibly rival this CD.

relaxing and tranquil!, 23 Jul 2008
sorry to see that this CD has got a bad review as I think it is wonderful. My son can't go to sleep without it, it really helps him to relax and unwind. I think the fact that it isn't the original version is good, as the tracks are shorter and don't get too loud which is often the case with classical music. I really like listening to it too, I think it is well made!
Fantastic, 22 Mar 2008
Have played this CD at bedtime for my daughter since she was born and have found it very calming, perfect as part of her bedtime routine. I believe that she enjoys the music and has learnt to associate the CD with winding down. I think the CD is a lovely introduction to classical music, with the individual tracks being short and played in a perfect style for little ears. I really recommend it.
nice, easy listening, 27 Feb 2008
i found the CD nice to listen to, never been a gerat lover of classical music but this CD is calming and relaxing. i play the CD at bath time and at night when winding down. my daughter seems to like it as much as her nursery rhymes. i think this CD would be nice to listen to when you are pregnant. i think it is a nice introduction to classical music.
Oh dear..., 22 Feb 2008
None of the music on this CD is as you will have heard it before, sadly it has been ruined and made into Musak or 'elevator music' which I personally find irritating in the extreme.
I've tried playing it through a few of times, hoping that my son might get some enjoyment out of it even if I couldnt, but he seems uninterested and to be honest I'm glad, it doesnt get any better with time and now its gathering dust.
Really disappointed! Stick to the real thing!

Great CD, thoroughly recommend it!, 18 Jun 2008
Bought this CD after reading the positive reviews and I'm really glad I did. Our 2-year-old girl loves it and despite playing it over and over again we haven't got fed up with it, which is praise indeed!
Disagree with the reviewer who didn't like the male vocalist's voice. I think it's a pleasant change to hear an English accent with perfect diction.
Great opening track which gets our daughter dancing and our feet tapping immediately!
Really not that good or different, 27 May 2008
I bought this album as a result of all the positive reviews. However, I don't agree with them. Yes, there is a very slight 'twist' in that some of the songs start with different beats or musical styles. BUT, the nursery rhymes are sung by two annoyingly 'stage school' sounding singers, particularly the chap. His voice is so irritating that I can't listen to it. Plus they are basically the same as the much cheaper, but much better, BBC nursery rhyme albums I bought.
A waste of money as it isn't really any different. Buy 'Colours Are Brighter' if you want a truly alternative childs album or any of the They Might be Giant CDs.
Lana Nimmo, 16 Mar 2008
It's great and cheerful and our one year old daughter loves dancing to it. It also is the kind of CD that does not drive the parents insane when listening to it again and again. I thoroughly recommend it.
The Best Nursery Rhyme CD, 11 Oct 2007
This is quite simply the best nursery rhyme CD I have heard. All of the songs are really fun and the whole family loves to listen to it. Top marks!
Oxbridge baby nursery rhymes , 29 Aug 2007
We were pleased with this CD. The music is played and sung well, and I can't see it getting on our nerves for quite some time. There is one reviewer who said he was worried that his child would look silly at school because the melodies are so different, but they seem to be quite close to the originals (as I remember them) to me. Anyway, children learn quickly so it wouldn't be too much of a problem. The only drawbacks are the cost of this and the fact that there's no song sheet inside for all those parents who've forgotten the lyrics. On the whole though, worth having.

i found the CD nice to listen to, never been a gerat lover of classical music but this CD is calming and relaxing. i play the CD at bath time and at night when winding down. my daughter seems to like it as much as her nursery rhymes. i think this CD would be nice to listen to when you are pregnant. i think it is a nice introduction to classical music.
Oh dear, 03 Sep 2007
I bought this because I didn't remember any nursery rhymes and wanted to sing them with my daughter. It arrived in a double CD case and I thought 'oh good'. Only to find it's one CD of half finished songs. 10 green bottles finishes at 6, Nelly the elephant has no second verse, I could go on. Save your money on this one.
Quantity not Quality, 28 May 2007
I have been looking at the best albums for children and have seen this title is there quite a lot. Well don't be fooled, I have a copy and although there are loads of nursery rhymes on it you really wouldn't want to listen to many of them.
Boring is one word that describes this album. It is a shame that the people who make these kind of things think they can put loads of titles onto a CD and that will make it good, it doesn't!!!
Very Enjoyable, 13 May 2007
I have been enjoying playing this cd to entertain our new baby and particularly like the fact that it came with a booklet of words so I can learn them all!!
Brilliant, 09 Mar 2007
My son likes this and I play it at the mother & toddler group I run. Songs are in various styles and children won't get bored listening. Grown ups would like the songs too, as you even have a 'Tony Bennett like' voice singing one of the songs.

FAB, 20 Sep 2008
All I can say is WOW! Not only did the music create a lovely bed time routine with some of the songs that I already knew and could sing to, but it totally chilled out my daughter and sent her off to sleep, and I felt relaxed too! This is a must have.

Really lovely CD, the singing voice is lovely and my 3 month old son loves it.
Best buy for my baby!, 08 Sep 2008
I was looking for a cd for my little baby girl-she is 2 months old now when came across this amazing songs. Its such a calming combination that I also enjoy listening to her voice. Recommended for every mum and baby!
Singalong, 18 Nov 2008
My son loves this CD and often asks for it to be on at breakfast (much to my wife's annoyance !)
Compared to other children's CDs I have to say it's the least irritating , but one thing that irks is some songs have a couple of verses while others (usually the ones you really like !) only have little snippets

(and it does, I don't think she has even listened to the last few tracks as she is asleep before the end) Looking to buy some more now!

It's for the Kids, 13 Aug 2008
Although the voices are a bit annoying and as an adult I can hear little merit in this stuff, my kids absolutely love the Sticky Kids and can't get enough of them. If you need sophisticated drum breaks and top quality sound perhaps something from the adult selection is for you. If you want your pre-schoolers entertained, this is fantastic. Whoever makes this stuff has a good handle on what the little ones like. Let your children decide if it's any good or not.
Good for hyper kids ;-), 13 Nov 2007
It's not the best recording I ever heard. Not too well recorded, with cheap drum samples etc and kids with strong Glasgow accents (funny that) but the songs are the right ones for kids with too much energy. Like a sort of a aerobics for kids. Stand-up, sit Down, gets them laughing and me out of breath. I used it with my kids for indoor play-time at the pre-school I work at and it did the job.
Excellent resource, 15 Aug 2007
I use this CD with my reception class and we all absolutely love it! It's fun and gets the children moving! We have all got lots fitter with Sticky Kids!!
don't get this one, 23 Jun 2007
I was interested on getting this for my daughter. The idea of her being motivated to dance and move to music sounded wonderful, especially when we are stuck indoors when there's bad weather. Well, we put it in the cd player, and were so disappointed. It is of such bad quality and the voices were extremely annoying. They sound like amateur school teachers that decided to put together a recording... Okay, maybe I'm being a bit harsh, but definitely a waste of money - poor quality. Don't bother getting this. My daughter is totally unterested in it and we never played it again.
music and movement for lively four year olds, 25 Feb 2006
My reception class have had a great deal of fun with this CD. It makes them listen, keeps them active and creates a great atmosphere of excitement. There is a good variety of action songs and rhymes which we've learned a few at a time, but last week we strung them all together and 'performed' the whole CD. What a sense of achievement! I've now bought the next Sticky Kids CD and we're ready to start again.

Great, even for older children, 31 Aug 2008
This was bought for my second child, who is now 2, but my 5 year old found it in the cd rack and wanted to listen to it, she loves it and insits on putting it on every night, she says it helps her to go to sleep! (and it does, I don't think she has even listened to the last few tracks as she is asleep before the end) Looking to buy some more now!
mad about mozart, 01 Aug 2008
I hated this at first, it is totally pared down mozart- and played it only on headphones to the foetus. Now he is born, we both absolutely love it and often it soothes me more than baby!!!
Beautiful, 27 Aug 2008
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! What a great collection for children and amazingly grown ups will love listening too. Beautiful arrangements and the chill out style make it unlike any other nursery rhyme CD I've heard before and a lot easier on the ear for us adults who have to listen along. You might even find yourself listening when the kids are already asleep! I will probably be buying this for anyone I know who has a baby now! Very highly recommended.
Arguably the best CD I own, 21 Jul 2008
We were bought this when our baby was born as a present and it has been indispensable. I have heard it every night for seven months and am still not bored. It is calming and gentle and I now cannot imagine life without it!
Better than the others, 07 Jun 2008
A cd of lullabies that your child is going to enjoy & relax to each night but isn't going to make you jump out the window is a tough challenge. Sophie Barker has done a really good job with this collection. I had to throw away the cd I used with my son but I'm now 18 months into listening to this every day & still smiling.
I would recommend it

FAB, 20 Sep 2008
All I can say is WOW! Not only did the music create a lovely bed time routine with some of the songs that I already knew and could sing to, but it totally chilled out my daughter and sent her off to sleep, and I felt relaxed too! This is a must have.
Lovely CD, 13 Sep 2008
Really lovely CD, the singing voice is lovely and my 3 month old son loves it.
Best buy for my baby!, 08 Sep 2008
I was looking for a cd for my little baby girl-she is 2 months old now when came across this amazing songs. Its such a calming combination that I also enjoy listening to her voice. Recommended for every mum and baby!
Singalong, 18 Nov 2008
My son loves this CD and often asks for it to be on at breakfast (much to my wife's annoyance !)
Compared to other children's CDs I have to say it's the least irritating , but one thing that irks is some songs have a couple of verses while others (usually the ones you really like !) only have little snippets
