Brilliant, 31 Dec 2008
Brilliant album. I bought the first and loved it, so bought this too.
Excellent album, though not quite as good as the first, but still chock-a-block with dance floor tunes.
If you've not got the first one, buy it and then get this one too!
its done well, 26 Dec 2008
its just done really well only thing that lets it down is the mixing is not the greatest, does anyone know what happened to real DJ's mixing the MOS labels? the likes of petes tong judge jules danny rampling? Its a blast though take a listen it will take you back to when you were driving round in your mates RS Turbo trying to look cool with acne!
Bass aint pumpin', 20 Dec 2008
The Ad for this looks great & whets the appetite for some killer tracks. In fairness there are some true classics on these 3 discs such as Robert Miles haunting piano led 'children', New Orders doom laden electro 'Blue Monday', the Prodigy still sound edgy & Daft punk's hypnotic "around the world'continues to weave a spell.
There is certainly a fair few genuine anthems here for sure but 3 discs? 'fraid not. Some tracks have not aged well, such as Guru Josh's 'Infinity' or Blue boy's 'remember me', while others are quite frankly as rubbish now as when they were 1st released, the MAW, N'joi & Bel amour, to name just a few, were naff and no amount of time is going to change that.
It's great to revisit some classic anthems and here the likes of voodoo ray, Tori Amos & Leftfield are a pleasure to return to but there is just way too much z-list material here for this to be of any value. You will find yourself hitting the skip button too often.
A single disc release packed with true classics would have been great but there is just far too much filler & not enough killer to make this worth bothering with.
Wow..., 16 Dec 2008
Its such a fantastic CD, didn't think much at first, but when I actually bought the CD it was well worth it. Loads of classics to keep you on your toes, and some I had never heard before that really caught my attention.
Well worth buyin!
Truly brilliant selection, 17 Nov 2008
Yes yes, Ministry of Sound put out plenty of albums, particularly classic ones, and seem to get plenty of flack in the reviews (!), but honestly this is brilliant. I was given Anthems I for Christmas last year, and that was pretty good, but this follow up is even better. Mostly because it digs out some of the brilliant but not often seen tracks like DReam, S Express, New Order, Orbital and Billie Ray Martin.
Discs 2 and 3 seem to be chronological as well, but it really is big tune after big tune, great if you buy only one dance album. Faithless, Livin Joy, Modjo (what a track!), Olive, Stardust, the list goes on.
I'm lovin it! Couldn't recommend it more...i'll be getting it for people for Christmas...

Great Collection, 24 Dec 2008
This is a great compilation of songs. I used to have all of the Annuals by MoS and recently put them all on Ebay as there were a lot of duff tracks in there. My personal view is buy this and MoS Anthems 2 and you will have a strong collection of great dance tunes - perfect for the car.
ok but not as good as thought, 12 Dec 2008
Thought would be great but disappointed, haven't got through full album before turning off before finished. Some classic sounds.
Fun, 07 Dec 2008
Not being a big dance fan, this was the first such compilation I've bought and I like it. From reading other reviews on here it sounds as though Ministry of Sound have become somewhat lazy and greedy in their compilations, but as a collection of commercial dance songs in one package this certainly suffices for the casual listener. It was the fifteen or so tracks I already knew (grace, chicane, underworld, darude, roger sanchez, jakatta, daft punk...etc) which I bought this for so I'm certainly not disappointed I bought it. Enjoy!
Mixing goes from quite good to terrible..., 21 May 2008
I buy dance compilations primarily to listen to good mixing between (good) tracks. The track selection on this package isn't awful, OK there are some tracks that perhaps shouldn't be there, but what annoys me slightly is the total lack of any careful mixing between tracks. Some transitions are as smooth as silk, whereas others are a simple fade down and fade up which all takes place in about 3 seconds, or just a crash edit, which I find defeats the point of buying an album such as this.
When will MOS return to letting actual named DJ's mix their output?
Adequate for someone who likes chart dance music, 26 Mar 2008
It bemuses me why negative comments towards most dance compilations always say 'same stuff repackaged' - dont buy it then!! The song lists are provided beforehand to give you an idea of what songs and genres are included. This compilation, though not the best for someone who prefers less commercial music is good to put on in the background or in the car. It serves its purpose well.

its ok but if you want the honnest truth its a bit too euro for me i can see German men dancing in a gay club to this and dont get me wrong i love gay club scene its brought us greats onto the dance scene but this could be so so much more the mixing is poor and its far too main stream for my liking.

Dead by name but defiantely not by nature!!, 11 Dec 2008
I first heard a tune of Deadmau5 with Kaskade (move for me) on a Cream ibiza album. thought it was excellent and wanted a bit more. Have to say this album is sumat else. Doesnt really fall into a catergory and seems not only to be progressive throughout the album but also progressive throughout most genres of electronica. Really chilled out tunes with a headbopping beat. I think ''Brazil'' and ''alone with you'' are my favourite tracks as this is where the album starts to really take off into allsorts of whizzes and bleeps and ambient effects such as bells and pianos and a whole range of other electronica noizes. Defiantely reccomended.

excellent , 14 Nov 2008
debut release from the mau5, a great mix of original progressive house with some more mainstream funky/ambient stuff thrown in. Best feature of the album for me is the sound quality itself, the production is top notch - EPIC!
Stunning, 01 Nov 2008
This is the best house CD I have heard in a very long time. The continuous mix at the end of the CD is what it's all about. Saw him play at the Space closing and this is even better. I can't recommend it enough.
:-) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! :-), 30 Oct 2008
Deadmau5 has produced and remixed quite a lot of choons on the dance scene over the last couple of years. This album release has come at the right time where, to his credit, he is now recognised as a serious and "in demand" producer/remixer who has his own style and distinct sound.
The album is a mixed album of Deadmau5's most recognised choons. If you have never heard his material, I would describe it as minimal, melodic progressive house that sounds very warm and bouncey - not cheesey!
For me the best tracks are Brazil, Alone With You, Not Exactly, Faxing Berlin and Arguru.
If you want a banging hard sounding album then this is not for you. But if you want a more chilled and well produced sound that teases the listener in places then go for it.
The reason I gave this a 4 Star is because not everybody likes a mixed album of one particular artist. Having said that, this album works the way it is and I personally prefer it this way.
If you like a bit of minimal proggy stuff then I can't recommend this high enough! Tip Top!! :-)

Best Club Album Yet !!!, 27 Oct 2008
Well i must say i thought this was just another compilation of the latest tunes that i don't care about at all. How i was wrong !!
This is brilliant, it contains new songs such as "Cry for You" and also contains some real classics such as "Luvstruck" which we recognize from "Kevin and Perry". The list really does go on and not only are they brilliant tracks but they are also all club mixes of these songs so there's added bass and speed on most tracks.
Good for general listening but obviously much better in the car, club, house party or anywhere with loud speakers and subs !!
EASILY worth the money !!

It serves its purpose well.
its too euro, 26 Dec 2008
its ok but if you want the honnest truth its a bit too euro for me i can see German men dancing in a gay club to this and dont get me wrong i love gay club scene its brought us greats onto the dance scene but this could be so so much more the mixing is poor and its far too main stream for my liking.
Defiantely reccomended.

debut release from the mau5, a great mix of original progressive house with some more mainstream funky/ambient stuff thrown in.

OK. A host of classics re spun and rearranged into 3 CD's. Nothing really new here but ok to play at home pre party. I'm sure it will sell well but just another commercial album. The new club scene will probably go for this one but not cutting edge enough for me.
Something Slightly Different, 09 Aug 2008
I always find compilations hit and miss because usually for every great song that's on there there's some equally bad or boring ones mixed in. What I find great about this album is that this doesn't (for once) seem to be the case. Great songs delivered one after another in consistent succession, CD3 in particular is brilliant for driving to if you're that sort of person. The mixing is also quite impressive, this is the first Dave Pearce album I've bought but has led me to be more interested in his others.
Greatest Trance Compilation Ever, 26 Jul 2008
My collection of Trance music contains more than a dozen albums but this is by far the best I have ever had the privelage of owning. Each disc on this 3 CD album is packed full of great tunes that you can listen to over and over and if I was to recommend any Trance music album to anyone there wouldn't be anything else except this.
Classic trance with some new tunes as well., 23 Jul 2008
Dave Pearce has deservedly gained a fantastic reputation in the trance scene, for his BBC Radio 1 work, and his unparallelled abilities in mixing and DJing this genre of music. Once again, Pearce proves that the classic trance tunes of the nineties and noughties can be blended seamlessly with the modern beats coming out of the scene in 2008. Some of the tunes on this box set are going to be known by anyone of any age - Sandstorm, Close Cover, Resurrection - whilst other tunes, fresh off the press in 2008, are going to make sure that Trance is here to stay well into the future.
Decade old tunes recycled - Where's the creativity?, 18 Jun 2008
To put it simply, I was listening to some of these tunes on each CD over 10 years ago.
Very disappointed.

Mashed to the Max, 28 Apr 2008
I own both the Mash Up Mix 2006 and 2007 and have to say this is the weakest of the three but not by too much of a margin. CD1 is absolutely brilliant, with a voyage through so many house and garage genres. Fantastic beat throughout and really deserves five stars. However! CD2... oh dear. this is a complete mess and I think is only here as a kind of experiment (and of course if MoS offers 2 CD's it will always Look like better value than 1). If you like experimental music you'll love it, however if you hanker after the all round quality of the previous two installments, you might be disappointed.
MASHED HEAVEN (WOW), 21 Apr 2008
Ignore the previous negative review on this. I have all the Mash Up Mix series & this one is up there with the best.
The Cut Up Boys are masters at what they do & the Mash up's are totally unique to them.
This CD is a must for any Dance music lovers. Can't wait for Mash Up Mix 2009
This is abizmal. I know good, and this is nowhere near., 17 Apr 2008
Well to start off i bought the first Mash Up Mix CD when it came out a couple years back, and it was alright. It wasn't amazing but had a 4 or so decent songs mixed together.
This 2008 CD is so terrible. Not one song on two! yes two! (they had 2 CD's to make at least one good mix) is even 'not bad'. Just alot of good songs, mixed with new attempts at songs that litterally sound like they have been "Mash"ed "Up". Its most lightly because the charts in general is terrible and not one decent dance genre of song is catchy, only repitive.
The last song on CD2 (Now You're Gone) really sums this compilation up, recent repitive songs, that sound terrible. Mixed with old good songs, that should only be tampered with if the DJ know what they are doing.
Don't allow record companies to take your money for this excuse for music.
Another quickie..., 27 Mar 2008
Time for another quick review from me - I leave the heavy musical critique to the experts.
For people used to this Mashup Mix series, this installment slots between the two previous entries. It's better than 2007 but not as good as 2006.
If you're new to this, get Mashup Mix 2006 before this one. You won't be disappointed.
"The Boys Are Back In Town", 16 Mar 2008
When I see The Mash Up Mix on the website, I usually get excited, because I know I'm in for a treat, mashups between disco, dance, techno, hip-hop, drum n bass, rave and hardcore; and I have to say 2008 is no different.
The boys are back, at a guess they must be using 3 decks, one with the main instrumental, another with an accapella, and another with just a deck they can scratch along to, or just put the next vocal on. Not only do they mix the pair together, sometimes you hear them literally spinning the records to suit the other, or other effects they throw in for posterity.
CD1 is a journey through old skool hip-hop, right through to trance and dance, and all mixed up for the fun of it; the boys really have thought this through, and the homage to old rave is definitely here; though towards the end of the disk, you can tell they've got a bit tired and it's not as good as the beginning. Some hot moments on here include the mashup with Max Sedgley, Tone Loc, Artful Dodger and Bob Sinclair, with it's funky texture and Mr Ozio meets Vanilla Ice, works well, who would have thought it?
Disk 2 is just as good, with the boys even mixing up to 4 items in a track, they must have good memories to remember what goes together, and lucky not to bump off the wrong record: the attention to detail, care and remixology is amazing in this compilation, and really is the only MoS CD I bother with now. Some moments of cleverness come through in the mashup with Armand Van Helden, Hardrox, Jukey Feat. Sway, making a new record that would be fine on it's own.
Very good mix, but looses a star due to it not being as good as 2007's mix, but that's more a matter of my taste, and shouldn't really put you off this gem. I can see me coming back to this in 10 years time, like I'm doing with the Annual 3.

See what happens when you let a real DJ mix it?, 24 Jan 2008
I'm going to be brief with this review - I think i've ranted too much over the past few months with MoS albums!
Basically, I bought this album after listening to it at my friends house. I had completely forgotten about it being released, as I had previously dismissed it for being just 'another' album. However, after seeing it was mixed by the old legends themselves, I decided to give it a go.
I can say now that this is probably the best MoS album in years, which is saying alot listening to the other rubbish they release - all with 'new' material. As a DJ myself, it was great to see that The Annual 2008 is a much better effort, but what's missing? The quality of mixing, present on this album.
CJ Mac, Jazzy M and Marc Hughes all combine to put together this lovely album. For those who don't know, Ministry was first opened in 1991, and 3 of its most famous DJ's, listed above, mixed this album. The song selection perfectly reflects a move through time that was, fun house music! From a nice mix of Moving On Up to the consistent piano and hard percussion sounds of It's Gonna Be A Lovely Day, the first CD will be enough on first hearing to render this money well spent. The mixing is well structured and reflects how difficult it was in the early 90's, when songs had more variety in sounds, so top marks to CJ the great beat-matching! Some songs are cuts, some are full edits, but all are fantastic party anthems.
The second and third CD follow in the exact same vein, unsurprisingly! You'll also notice by now the running theme of each CD having an era - whereas CD1 housed 1991-1995, CD2 has 1996-1999, and CD3 having more recent floorfillers. What should also be noted, I forgot to mention, is that the album has clearly been mixed on either vinyl or CDJ's - as you'll hear, CJ's opening mix is quite of the mark in terms of beat-matching, so he must have pulled his socks up for the rest of the CD!
Presented in a lovely DigiPack with plenty of design and text, you wouldn't think this was a Ministry album, judging by the work that's gone into it. In some respect, it reminds me of when the original leather Annuals came out, the speciality and buzz around it.
If you're young and only follow the modern market of dance music, then this is the ONLY album I recommend if you want a true insight into Ministry history. Forget the other hundred 'Classics' albums out there, and forget Ministry's Annuals between 2001 and 2006 - this is the only album you need to take you back to the 90's. You may not appreciate it, or may call it boring, but for us that do appreciate it and know what real dance music was, and is, I can't fault this album anyway.
commercial rubbish, 27 Dec 2007
ministry of sound always have and always will be commercial rubbish. Since first opening way back when raving was raving. And avoided at all costs like a school disco. The records on here are made by money grabbing losers who only wish to cash in on a scene that otherwise had integrity. Think of all the serious rave tunes now unavailable due to people like this taking all the space and the labels who copyright the material on those records that showed the true spirit of pioneering electronic rave music experimenting with samples and this is just the reverse,
GET A LIFE start an original scene instead of crumbin off pioneers.
THE perfect soundtrack to any party, 13 Nov 2006
This is the ultimate Ministry album. If you're not already a fan - you'll become one.
Three CDs packed with the best house music from the last 15 years - cherry picked and mixed by three of the most famous DJs ever to grace the Ministry of Sound turn-tables: CJ Macintosh, Jazzy M. and Marc Hughes. Dance music has come a long way in 15 years and these guys have been there every step of the way.
All three CDs are expertly put together - seamlessly mixed, each with their own twist. Try picking a favourite!
There is so much on one album - you're spoilt for choice. These are the tunes that packed the dance floor of `the most famous nightclub in the world' - listen to this and you'll see why.
Perfect soundtrack to any party -
Happy fifteenth MOS!
Memories and absolutely slamming !, 31 Oct 2006
This is not your usual Ministry rubbish. This is proper house music at it's best. I haven't heard a compilation this good in a couple of years. Puts recent Hedkandi releases to shame.
At the age 33 this brings back memories of fantastic days gone by for me, but Marc Hughes's CD is a fantastic example of how good Dance music can be now.
Only Dimitri in Paris (Defected) CD has come close to this in the last few years.
Good Work Ministry !
Dissapointing for a M.O.S release, 17 Oct 2006
i was really looking forward to this collection as the Ministry CDs are always so good, and for a 15-year celebration pack i thought everyone would be in for a treat!
But actually this is a really average collection. Most of the tracks are good choices and i'm really happy that they're here, but there are some really poor tracks that have managed to get in here somehow which kindof spoils it a little.
Also the tracks are far too long, in some cases they last 7-8mins each, which is a bit too much for a compilation where the tracks are mixed into each other.
This brings me onto my final complaint; the mixing is absolutely awful! I don't know which DJ (if any) actually produced these mixes, but they are very poor or average at best and it all sounds a little 'amateur-ish'.
For a collection of such a big name, this is not that great at all. But if you don't own a lot of the classics on here, then maybe you will enjoy this.

It serves its purpose well.
its too euro, 26 Dec 2008
its ok but if you want the honnest truth its a bit too euro for me i can see German men dancing in a gay club to this and dont get me wrong i love gay club scene its brought us greats onto the dance scene but this could be so so much more the mixing is poor and its far too main stream for my liking.

Cant write enough good comment5 about this album, top mix and epic production!!!!!!
BUY IT NOW
excellent , 14 Nov 2008
debut release from the mau5, a great mix of original progressive house with some more mainstream funky/ambient stuff thrown in.
