A real beauty, 10 Sep 2006
After a hot summers day, theres nothing I like more than to just relax and let the tunes from Cafe del Mar vol.5 send me in dreams. It retains the true quality of a typical 90's album, that has absolutely no commercialism in it. in this respect, it stands out from alot of other albums you'll own.
The songs are incredibly soothing, and arranged perfectly, with Close cover being a perfect way to end the album.
A must for late summer nights!
Vol.5, 24 Feb 2005
Vol.5 is close to vol.3 but not as good but still amazing. Its depeends on what you like really. This cd is more funky but alot less jazz based it a good pierce of work.Cafe delmar is sheer quality check vol.2,vol.3 and vol.6,vol.7 lastly all Jose padilla work all up to this stardard. Impessive stuff!
Absolutely amazing CD, 13 Aug 2004
I've had this CD for 2+ year and never ever get tired of it. It had a good mix of song styles so you never get bored, and some truly amazing songs that you'll love forever. I'd definately recommend buying it - without a doubt.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK C.D.M. ITS GETTING BETTER BY THE VOLUME THE PERFECT WAY TO CHILL OUT
Worth it for Dusty, 14 Jun 2007
I am middle-aged, so don't normally hear such records, but I heard this at a friends with teen-aged kids' dinner party. I am a fan of Dusty Springfield, and recognised that "The Look of Love" was "different". It was far jazzier and lacked the strings in the background. I guess it is the original Burt Bacharach-produced version from the film Casino Royale. The more common version was re-recorded in London, and, to my mind, the version presented here is far better, and worth buying the album for - for fans of Dusty anyway.
The best of all the Cafe Del Mar's, 20 Oct 2004
I've got all the Cafe Del Mar albums - I collect them and treasure them like good books. If you want an introduction to Cafe Del Mar - don't get No.1, go and buy Volume 6, in my opinion this is the best of the lot, the others are good, but this is the one I will never get bored of.
An EXCELLENT Addition to the Cafe Del Mar Series, 06 Jan 2002
If you liked any of the original Cafe Del Mar series, I promise you that you'll love this. It is so similiar, but yet so different. It has its own defined edge which makes it a pleasure to listen to while laying in bed, sitting in the garden, or even while in the car driving to and from work. The hypnotic beat keeps you relaxed and occupied! A must for any CHILLOUT fan!
synchopation of the senses, 14 Aug 2001
Listening to this CD now at the Adios Ayer track I can smell the sand of the beach with the cool of the sea breezing on my neck. Slowly yor mind will drift into a breath which will take your every sense, which will remind you of every friends smile, every friends face and every kiss you will ever have the fortune to feel on your cheek. This is the beauty of music. A mind free to listen and appreciate soft kisses. Your childhood will be awakened on every soft beat.

Sublime chillout album, 20 Jun 2008
Having never been to Cafe del Mar and never buying any previous CdM compilations I had anticipated the usual reworking of the well-know tracks present on the multiple chillout CDs now on sale. Thankfully I was completely wrong - this is by far the best of the genre compilations and is all new work from established and new artists. The blurb states that the album is new work from known favourite artists (CD 1) and compilations of new work from any artist who submitted tracks to the CdM website and was then voted on for inclusion by over 80,000 listeners (CD 2 & 3). There is a heap of great stuff on this compilation and many artists new to me who I plan to start exploring.
Perfect for warm summer evenings outside and also to drift off to any time with a few glasses of wine. Highly recommended.
Stunning!, 02 Oct 2007
I don't normally like chillout albums, they seem to be made up of contived, dull rubbish! This set, however, is really classy! I love Sensual Bay by Andre Andreo on disc one as it reminds me of my holiday in Marbella years ago. I also love The Meeting by Koru, the piano chords make the hairs on my neck stand up! Anyway, its all fantastic and a great way to get into Cafe del Mar!
excellent!!, 04 Apr 2006
I bought this CD for my husband, we had it for a couple of weeks before we listened to it at a party,it was such a perfect end to the night!!

beautifull, 28 Feb 2005
I love this album from the beginning to end.CD1 Track 1 by Lovers Lane is a great introduction a welcome song to CDM fans. Track 4 by Luminous I believe in you, Aquatic soul with beautiful vocals by Julie Harrington very classy Track 11. By Gary B. Lead me home, a slow Moby like blues song very haunting. Cd 3 Track 3 by Steen Thottrup this is electronic music at its best. This album is very good value 3 hours of relaxing chill out, Well don Café Del mar

Product Description
An oasis of calm amid the turbo-fuelled clubbing tornado that is Ibiza , Café Del Mar is the White Isle's original home of red-eye chill-out vibes and weepy sunset soundtracks. The series of compilations bearing the bar's name, meanwhile, have long patented that authentic sound of Balearic bliss (even claiming Madonna as a huge fan) and this seventh volume maintains the high standards. Founding DJ Jose Padilla may have long moved on, but his successor, DJ Bruno, is clearly well aware of the old adage about fixing what ain't broke. There's the usual mix of names well-known (Moby, Bedrock, Nightmares On Wax) and head-scratchingly obscure (Uko, Lux, Aromabar), but the sound of beautiful music for loved-up and lazy beach-bums stays the same. Frankly, this sounds as good at home as it does on the early morning terraces of San Antonio.--Calvin Bush

A BLINDING CD NOT A DUFF TRACK IN SIGHT THE BEST CHILLOUT TO DATE. MUSIC TO DIE FOR. JUST SIT BACK CLOSE YOUR EYES AND THINK OF THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE STROLLING ALONG THE WHITE ISLE WATCHING THE SUN SETTING WHAT COULD BE MORE BLISSFULL (ALL THE VOLUMES OF CDM Great compilation, 19 Dec 2007
I have had this one for quite a few years now and it is still one of my favorites from the Cafe del mar series. It is an energetic easy listening mix, that facilitates work and web surfing. Thumbs up! Plastic Bags vs Timelessness, 11 Feb 2003
Now I've tried not to have any preconceptions regarding Padillo's absence, yet I just could not overlook the lack of CDM's hallmark. The music is decidedly nice, generally chilled, possibly hip. BUT there was NOTHING special in the disk. It is not enough to gather a collection of "safe tracks" and slap them together. The order, the mix and the overall combination plays a roll and this is what lets the disk down. Pitty. On to CDM 8. Luckily this doesn't put my nose out of joint quite so much because of its inclusion of some irrefutably legendary tracks (esp. American Beauty's Dancing Plastic Bag hit). But again, I felt these were quick wins, compared with Padilla's inherent skill for succesful compilation. Sunset memories, 19 Feb 2002
As the Amazon review says 'sunset soundtracks' sums this CD up for me. I can't pretend to know much about the history of these collections of music but I now what I like. This CD was the one in our Sunset Villa on Lizard Island, Australia that would be left playing for us when we returned from dinner in the evening. Listening to the tracks now makes me cry! Beautiful sounds to match a beautiful place. Buy this and dream of summer.
Missin the Padilla magic, 22 Dec 2001
We thought we'd said "Goodbye" to Cafe Del Mar with Volume 6 but this offering shows we were mistaken. We should really have left the series to rest there, for Volume 7 lacks the evocative mood, warmth, colour and flavour injected by Jose Padilla while he presided over the series. This is Cafe Del Mar by name but not by nature and it is, frankly, disappointing. That is not to say these tracks aren't worth hearing; it's just that they're not what you'd expect from Cafe Del Mar.

Not the best...., 20 Oct 2005
If you want the best introduction to cafe del mar music - don't buy this! Instead buy Cafe Del Mar DREAMS volumes 2 & 3. I guarantee they will get you hooked! Volume 3 is nearly all superb tracks including OASIS by GAIA Project and Have a Smoke by DAB. Volume 2 has the stunning Castillos De Area by Deep&Wide and Stay asleep among many others. Jose Padilla may have started it all but Bruno makes much better selections!
Re-published from last year, 01 Jun 2004
Please be aware that this compilation was already published in September last year, on this new version there are only two tracks different from that version. "Face A La Mer - Les Negresses Vertes" and "Ill Street Blues - Moonrock" have been dropped and replaced by "Gymnopedie No.1" and "Mad World". Still, it is a cracking compilation, there are no bad tracks on this. I have to agree with escobar_numbero_uno it is one I can play over and over again.
Chilled to Perfection, 27 May 2004
As with all Café Del Mar compilations, the vibe isn't solely Chill-out, but slight funk and latino grooves also. A classic selection of lesser-well known songs mixed in with more maintstream (remixed) tracks such as "God Put a Smile Upon Your Face", or "Mad World" come together to make a sublime, if not perfect album. Café del Mar CD's offer you tunes which can be played in practically any situation at any time in any mood, but whatever the scenario, they always give you the image of sitting in the sunset on a Balearic beach paradise, sipping on a smooth drink. This latest release is no exception. Buy it, you'll play it a hell of lot more than you realise.

100% BLISS, 21 Jan 2008
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK C.D.M. ITS GETTING BETTER BY THE VOLUME THE PERFECT WAY TO CHILL OUT Worth it for Dusty, 14 Jun 2007
I bought this CD for my husband, we had it for a couple of weeks before we listened to it at a party,it was such a perfect end to the night!! a must have, 24 Jan 2006
this album is the classic even though i´ve got all of them at home, this sums up all the brilliant songs made up by cafe del mar.. the best for lounge evenings and for listening during summer while chillin on the beach! besides the volume 7 the most recommended album an essential long-player for everyone liking to lean back and relax beautifull, 28 Feb 2005
This album is very good value 3 hours of relaxing chill out, Well don Café Del mar I WOULD GIVE IT 10 STARS IF I COULD, 21 Jan 2008
Buy it, you'll play it a hell of lot more than you realise.
cafe del magik, 20 Feb 2008

This album is amazing, the cuts on here are so chilled out that listening to this album is just a pleasure. It serves as a perfect introduction to the Cafe Del Mar series for newcomers and for the more knowledgable dance heads who have visited the white isle i'm sure this will take you back there.. a stunning album from start to finish
CAFE DEL MAR BRILLIANCE, 15 Feb 2008

Vol.2, 24 Feb 2005
Vol.2 is fun album at all the cafe del mar i own.Its i starter album into the series i think. The songs are smooth and vocals are good keeping interested and music not too deep. Mainly vocal the sort music clouds lol its like floating muscic.
An excellent Chillout album, 29 Mar 2004
I am very pleased with my purchases so far (I have already had the experience of the first Cafe del Mar, Ibiza and I have not been disappointed). Just lie on the couch with your headphones on and eyes closed and let all your worries be washed away by the sounds of Cafe del Mar, Ibiza. Forget about the Gas or Electric Bill for one more day.
One of the top 2 in the Cafe del Mar series, 09 Mar 2002
There are more quality chill out tracks on this CD than in some of the later years. Entre dos Aguas, Easter Song from A Man Called Adam and Unity are real gems. Jose Padilla has chosen a subtle blend mixing different elements present on the island of Ibiza. In later years a few dud tracks tended to creep in.I feel the series lost something when he stopped selecting the music, though he has been producing his own CDs ( 2 to date) that retain much of the magic of those early Cafe Del Mar CDs.

Product Description
Music lovers can always tell the summer's here because the market gets bombarded by a wealth of 'chill out'compilations but none so esteemed as the Café Del Mar series. One the first ever "Balearic" comps to emerge into the dance market, it's imaginative and considered song selections have ensured it has remained one of the finest too. Conjuring up the mood of Ibiza's more gentle side beautifully, the series features enigmatic combinations of downtempo beats, gorgeous guitar strums, wistful flute and lush strings. This 8th excursion is once again akin to sinking into a hot, scented bubble bath after a hard days work, with supine sonics from respected artists such as Goldfrapp ("Utopia"), Dido ("Worthless"), Afterlife ("Sunrise"), Illumination ("Cookie Raver"), Ben Onono ("Tattouage Blue"), Digby Jones ("Pina Colada") and Scriptiure ("Apache"). As we've come to expect from the Café Del Mar series, this album provides the perfect backdrop to any relaxing summer day. --Paul Sullivan

Chill-out without the funk...., 13 Nov 2002
A great album to sip sangria to. Not a 'jazzy' as the latest Vol.9 but offers a warm blend of subtle head-calmindg tunes and 'beaty' vibes. Recommended for the rainy nights in and sunny beach-days out.
Time to lay this old dog to rest, 26 Sep 2001
There is an easy explanation as to why this volume of Cafe del Mar is such a huge disappointment - it's related to the others in name and not by nature. The Cafe del Mar series truly ended when Jose Padilla stopped compiling them with Volume 6. He was the true essence of Café del Mar but left stating people only went there because they were told to and it had lost it's original beauty - i.e. it had got to commercial - just like the island of Ibiza itself. Bruno compiled Volume 7, which wasn't bad but still not a patch on what had come before. So on to Volume 8. Manifesto have such faith in the 2 DJ's that compiled this that they are not even given a mention on the front - only in small print on the back. The track selection and sequencing is poor compared to the standards set by Padilla. He had a talent of being able to bring together a diverse selection of tracks but all with a common Balearic feel and sequenced them brilliantly so each one rolled off the other. Not the case here at all. What Dido and Thomas Newman have to do with Ibiza I don't know. I'm sure if it weren't for Jakarta's "American Dream" being such a hit then the American Beauty theme wouldn't have been included at all. There are the some of the usual suspects however - Afterlife and Lux with very strong offerings. However, the overall feel of this compilation is quite dull and it seems to meander directionless until it reaches the incredibly dull and depressing "Gabriel" by Lamb. In between there are a few tracks that make it worth the purchase (just!!!):- Tattouage blue and Pina Colada come to mind No doubt there will be another Volume next summer to cash in on the reputation the series is built up. Lets hope it is better than this.
The supremo chillout album, 19 Aug 2001
This has been the most suprisingly good cd I've heard all summer, addictive, and each time I play it, someone either wants to borrow or buy it, good sign. Café del Mar 8 has the créme de la créme of chill out and electronica artists and producers, and makes a mockery of all the other rip off cd's in this genre trying to achieve the same depths of chill and style. Highlights for me are Illumination's "Cookie Raver", a mixture of Sueno Latino and deep Future Sound of London type beats and vibe, Illumination's remix of Mari Boine, "Gula Gula", and the Lamb anthem "Gabriel". Thanks Café del Mar, and keep up the good work with cutting edge acts like these.
If music were a big hammock.................., 16 Aug 2001
Considered by many to be the benchmark in ambient/chillout compilations the Cafe Del Mar series always has a lot to live up to, particularly after Jose Padilla decided he'd had enough and passed the job of compiling to Bruno for Vol.7. Well, the batton has been passed again to Luke Neville & Ben Cherrill with great results.... Vol.8 steers away from quick fix chill-out music and delivers something a little special. Tracks tend to creep-up on you, the build-up on Dido's Worthless being a good example. As a result this album gets better and better with each listen. Depending on taste you might not like every track as the musical origins are wide and varied as usual, but as a whole this is another classic from the 'can do no wrong' Cafe Del Mar series. Get it, find a spot and enjoy..... Ads
Disappointing, 03 Aug 2001
As an avid fan and collector of the Cafe del Mar series, i found vol.8 to be very disappointing in its lack of tune-full and melodic sounds found in the other volumes. Rather than painting the Sunny picture this series is renound for, i actually found this grey and, dare i say it, boring! Jose Padilla brought warmth, happiness and love to the series. In his absence, vol.7 shone brighty, unfortunately number 8 did not follow suit. I'm afraid i won't be buying number 9 (if there is one!) without throughly sampling it at someone elses expense! I'm thankful that Mr Padilla has continued to release 'my kind of music' on his new albums (hapiness returns!)

Love this compilation, 31 Aug 2008
One of the best from the Cafe. excellent selection of tunes. From the haunting Mumbai Theme tune to the superb Angels Landing. Pour me another Nestea and let me watch the sunset.
Buy this you wont regret it. Mumbai Theme Tune - A.R. Rahman - will relaxx you - Heal you, 17 Mar 2008
i havent listened full album yet. just listened the first song. Simple . Just buy this or download this album. 5/5.
It is sad these guys do not make music often. They should make music everyday. At least one album per year.
5/5
100% BLISS, 21 Jan 2008
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK C.D.M. ITS GETTING BETTER BY THE VOLUME THE PERFECT WAY TO CHILL OUT Worth it for Dusty, 14 Jun 2007
I bought this CD for my husband, we had it for a couple of weeks before we listened to it at a party,it was such a perfect end to the night!! a must have, 24 Jan 2006
this album is the classic even though i´ve got all of them at home, this sums up all the brilliant songs made up by cafe del mar.. the best for lounge evenings and for listening during summer while chillin on the beach! besides the volume 7 the most recommended album an essential long-player for everyone liking to lean back and relax beautifull, 28 Feb 2005
This album is very good value 3 hours of relaxing chill out, Well don Café Del mar I WOULD GIVE IT 10 STARS IF I COULD, 21 Jan 2008
