don't give up after CD1!, 11 Nov 2008
I bought this as a huge fan of global underground, certain it would be of the usual high standard. Listening to CD 1 on the way home in the car, I was hugely disappointed. The tracks seemed to signal a backward step to the party house of the late 90's, with plenty of crowd pleasing build ups and cheesy vocal lines: not the chunky, tough tunes I was expecting. I was wondering what GU were playing at. Luckily, I persevered with CD2, an altogether different flavour. This kicks off with a few meaty tracks such as the dark 'the beauty' by Sven Vath, '21st century ketchup' by Steve Lawler and the rolling 'I can't live without chocolate' by the much lauded french producer 'The Last Atlant'. Things lighten up a bit for the latter half of the CD and there are a few absolutely thumping tracks such as Glitter's 'Bastards of Funk and Sonic Union' and Kris Menace's 'Artifical'. Things cool off at the end and finsh with the superb breakbeats of Way Out West's 'Spaceman'.
I think CD1 will remain immaculately preserved in the CD cover, whereas CD2 will enjoy many outings!

I now see what all the fuss is about!, 24 Nov 2008
I've never quite got into Sasha, I've never felt like calling anyone a 'legend' and probably the man himself wishes nobody did either! But from the first listen this CD oozes high level production talent and totally draws you in. Lots of interesting changes and grooves to ensure it doesn't lack personality or soul like some progressive house can. This is simply a blisteringly good example of a man whose asked for nothing and given something very special which I feel will stand the test of time, and that I guess is why they call him a legend, well earn't I say.
No Longer a Rumour- Invol2ver deal sealed (Successful)!, 20 Nov 2008
Officially, I knew this would be released about one or two days after I ran the Imogene. It was a lot harder to get used to the original Involver when Sasha first started it, though I liked that one with the atmospheric break beats than it picked up a little bit. However, Invol2ver (Involver 2) has a little more life in it than that. The anticipated date was questioned since last year and there were only rumours of Involver 2 coming out in the future, though not confirmed.
Finally, the news is out with Involver 2 now officaially in existance. How did it fair? The original CD had a lot more beat in it than the original Involver release. You could actually here same Sasha tracks in it as well, including a couple of unreleased tracks. The ambience remained, but a lot darker and denser. It took me two tries to get it right, but despite a couple of boring tracks, Involver 2 is a highly recommended release and deserves a 4.5/5 in my opinion. The second CD reminds me of something THE ORB would do. Ambient music!!
Recommended to all Sasha and Digweed fans; not discluding anyone else from trying it!
Masterpiece, 11 Nov 2008
I find it difficult to explain how good this album is. Global Underground refer to Invol2ver as a masterpiece (in the 'Global Underground 2009' sleeve notes. It is. I don't feel the need to qualify this statement. Sasha is peerless. Usually, I make the mistake of listening to albums too often and they quickly lose their appeal. However, this beautifully crafted album just gets better every time. Buy it.

Buy this, from amazon, enjoy. Ignore self promoting reviewers comments, they are too busy loving themselves to recognise the talent, skill and sheer bloody hard work that went into this awesome album. Sasha, I thank you.
A complete return to form and beyond..., 08 Oct 2008
Both Sasha and Digweed have restored my faith in progressive house simultaneously.
Invol2ver and Transitions 4 are two of the best mixes I've heard since the GU Ibiza and Hong Kong mixes respectively way back in 1999.
Sasha, having bored me fairly rigid on two incoherent mixes namely Fundacion and Involver, has produced a beautiful and complex sound scape which blew me away on the first listen. The thing is this mix builds beautifully and hangs so well. The same could be said for Transitions 4 (Digweed)
I feel the Sasha has taken dance music in the direction he wants but has neared perfecting his craft. The tracks are more vocal and seem more subdued and wistful than in previous mixes (see Communicate) but has managed to build interesting and atmospheric layers over them while the melody simply brightens and brightens which achieves the euphoria it is designed to do.
Brilliant stuff. It's just ace.

Good but ambient-esque, 19 Nov 2008
Real good tracks but it is kept at a reasonable pace. It doesn't quite develop, so could appear a little boring. Tight and flawless nice music, more melodic than progressive the way it used to be. The Paris GU mix is similar.
Good for summer listening, and background - versatile for everywhere.
Nothing extreme. I have the tracks separately which are excellent, but this mix does not develop - There are more epic stand out mixes... This is good but I want people to know not to expect a 5 star GU Release... yet again. Unfortunately.
Wicked !!, 10 Nov 2008
I've got most of the GU Cd's and while all are good none have compelled me to write a review until now, both the Cd's are the sort of upfront tuneful progressive I love,If you liked Shanghai (disc 1) and Paris (disc 2) you will love this!! the mixing and production are also superb and it's hard to pick a favorite disc...Enjoy !!
gu back to its best, 08 Nov 2008
after the last two releases i was getting a little worried... not now as this release is back to their best!!
Masterpiece, 04 Nov 2008
This is prog house at its very best. Both discs are excellent
however disc 2 has a relentless quality not heard on this label
since the brilliant Emerson,Uruguay.Anyone who doesn't like this
is wired all wrong. You wont regret buying it.
A little disappointing, 23 Oct 2008
Having absolutely loved the past two GU Nick Warren releases, I found this disappointing. It's all the same and flat - and doesn't pick up/put you down in any way. I found myself getting bored - which is a real shame because NW is such a great DJ when he's on form.
GU NW Shanghai and Paris were fantastic and really put Nick on the top DJ list, but this sounds very dull and bland. Nothing to stand out from all the other melodic/deep house stuff that's pumped out these days. Previous NW releases have had me jumping out of my chair and amazed at how he finds such different tunes to play. Sorry!

One long wonderful journey of music, 07 Nov 2008
This is what I would class as an Essential Mix, as it is indeed essential to own. It is not a collection of tracks, it is one long wonderful journey of music the whole 77 minutes need to be given time without pause.
By the end of listening there is a feeling of satisfaction of a job well done.
All the track have steady beats with punching bass lines and high-flying melodies floating around on top giving an all-round experience for the listener. You do not have to dance, you do not have to do any activity - just sit and listen and be consumed by the music. Quality House DJ?, 19 Jan 2008
I have read most of the other reviews and think these guys who have bought this cd do not have a clue what good house music is.... to be honest i was very disappointed in this cd. All the hype and with very little listening qualities... More like a pre nightclub warm up set, dont get me wrong there one or two tracks that you can tap yr feet to but the rest.... well i thought dave pierce was bad.... sasha hopefully yr other mixes are a bit more worthy of being under the Global Underground label. Three Listens And You're In...., 27 Mar 2006
I bought this CD when it came out and it has constantly been in the car or on my mp3 player ever since. For me, it is Sasha's best piece of work, and it has also resulted in me buying the albums by Grand National & Unkle. I like to refer to it as perfect selfish music and love getting completely lost in the awsome mixing and Sasha's outstanding choice of music for this album. Give it 3 listens and you'll be hooked.... Ah, the big Sasha epic finally arrives. When Airdrawndagger arrived it did so to universal apathy. While not a bad album at all (Cloud Cuckoo and Wavy Gravy rock nicely thank you very much), it just didn't sparkle. When DJs set to creating their uber artist album, I think they can fall into a killer trap. They try and make their album sound like define as perfection in a DJing set. A seamless building journey from beginning to end. Great as a mix album, not as an artist album. The Involver tackles the problem right at the heart. Sasha gets stuck right in at what he's doing best, in this case providing entirely exclusive remixes of his favourite tracks, and then seamlessly blending them together in a building 80 minute journey. If you wanted to stick this in a pigeonhole, it would be a remix-artist album-mix collection. There are no such things as pigeonholes though. Pigeons wander around town centres, dumping over shopfronts. This is just pure Sasha. The lovely deep disco of Grand Nation opens off proceedings. A nice low tempo'd funky track, builds tantalizingly before letting the vocal just float over it. Proves the rule that you don't have to have high tempos to be groovy. From there we smoothly shift to the baleric progressive of Shpongle, which contasts just perfectly to the melancholic synths of Petter's These Days. Naturally Sasha lays an acapella of UNKLE's What Are You To Me? effortlessly to great effect. The mix continues in this fashion, gently building with no massive drops into the next tune. A seamless landscape of sound. Some great highlights in the form of the Spooky remix, thundering along with a driving bassline, and The Youngster's Smile, a wickedly programmed electro groover with spine tingling shifts in moods. The excellent closer On My Own from Ulrich Schnauss was already a fantastic track. It now becomes an ecstatic breaksy wall of gorgeous synths. The Sasha biggie of the moment,! his remix of UNKLE's In A State becomes a nice bridging track ... cutting up the vocals and guitars, and shifting from house beats to progressive breaks. This is a real journey, and there is the promise of future albums along this line from Sasha. Not the be all and end all of the mix album, in fact, still not as awe inspiring as his earlier sets such as the Northern Exposure series and the Renaissance Mix Collection, but a worthy mix none the less. Perhaps a much needed change in direction from Global Underground (which, thank god, was heading in the right direction with the 24:7 series). Lets see some more of this. Eagerly awaiting Digweeds Fabric effort to see how that balances out his DJing partners recent uberproduction. Oh, naughty points to Global Underground (and any other label which is jumping on this ever increasing trend) of putting out an ordinany edition ... then a special edition in the most FRUSTRATING packaging (which I plumped for) before sticking out a special 'special' edition (in silver doggy bag) with bonus Sasha Classic Remix CD. We're not here to lap up every little morsel you stick in front of us...
Months on, Involver is still in my CD deck..., 05 Feb 2005
There is little doubt in my mind that this is one of the best CDs I've bought over the last few years. The production is simply stunning, blending both basslines and melody effortlessly throughout the mix. The album begins with "Grand National - Talk Amongst Yourselves" (which quite literally blew me away the first time I put it on) and is followed by many great tracks along the way ("These Days", "Smile","belong" and "On My Own"). I think what is exceptional here is that Sasha has taken some superb tracks and made them better (even when we thought we'd got bored of some of the originals long before it's release). However, my only regret is that the Felix Da Housecat track "Watching Cars Go By" is featured on the ablum. Don't get me wrong, it's not that it is a bad track (although it's not something I'd play myself), it's just that it seems so totally out of place. In summary, "Involver" is a great album and is far more complete than any of his other previous work. Although all the material is remixed, mashed-up and re-edited he has managed to approach almost every track from a new and refreshing perspective. Buy Involver - you won't regret it.

don't give up after CD1!, 11 Nov 2008

I've got most of the GU Cd's and while all are good none have compelled me to write a review until now, both the Cd's are the sort of upfront tuneful progressive I love,If you liked Shanghai (disc 1) and Paris (disc 2) you will love this!! the mixing and production are also superb and it's hard to pick a favorite disc...Enjoy !! gu back to its best, 08 Nov 2008

is wired all wrong.
Sorry! I now see what all the fuss is about!, 24 Nov 2008

Global Underground Taipei Dubfire, 17 Jul 2007
Another quality release from Global Underground! Now comes part 2 of the deep dish partnership. First was Sharam's mix, now comes Dubfire's turn. If a had to choose a winner, i think Dubfire's just edges it.
Dubfire's mix contains some outstanding tracks inc BarBQ, And If, Booka Shade, Samuel L Session and even Dubfire's own excellent 'I Feel Speed'.
A great addition to an already amazing Global Underground series.
A Global Underground gem, 13 Jul 2007
Sharam's Dubai was brilliant, and one of the GU highlights to date. I was expecting similar from Dubfire, and these mixes do not disappoint. CD1 seems to be liked by most, and I agree, it's well mixed, the tracks are superb, and well paced, and it closes in real style. Dubfire's own tune - "I feel speed" - is the notable high point for me.
Inexplicably, CD2 is getting panned, yet for me, it's the better of the two mixes. There's no messing around at the beginning - the Nitzer Ebb remix is awesomely dark and powerful and sets the tone for the rest of the mix, which doesn't let up. The Noir and Robbie Riviera tracks work well, and "Die Rumpelkammer" is a class tune and nicely paves the way for the DM remix. Thereafter it's a brilliantly deep finale to one of the best GU mixes they've ever released. In summary, this mix makes me smile and makes me want to go clubbing, largely because it doesn't step out of it's remit. In short, this is classy dance music through and through.
Disc: 2
1. First Rebirth - Lopez, Angel
2. Control I'm Here - Nitzer Ebb
3. Sax Track - U&K
4. Lucky Heather - Fanciulli, Nic
5. My MTV - Noir (2)
6. Float Away - Rivera, Robbie
7. You - DJ Vibe (1)
8. Die Rumpelkammer - Faki, Len
9. Everything Counts - Depeche Mode
10. Related - Session, Samuel L.
11. Can You Relate - Session, Samuel L.
12. Tuff Tribal - Heinstein, Emanuel
13. Start Chasing - Kowalski, Alexander & Barca Baxant
14. Jet - Ellen Allien & Apparat
Boring, 03 Jul 2007
Having bought the first two Deep Dish mixes on GU I was hoping for more of the same - well picked and mixed tunes. CD1 starts with some smooth and intelligent Deep House tunes; BarBQ "Myself" being the standout tune of the first CD, skip the rest of the songs until you get to tracks 13 - 15 then press play again. Even then the Markus Shultz mix of Du What U Du isn't the best out there....
CD2 is deeply disappointing, again skip the first 11 tracks and listen to the last three. The second CD feels stodgy and repetitive in comparison to the first. In fact throw it away!
For fans of quality EDM, Nick Warren's Shanghai GU28 and Paris GU30 are just in a different league from this.
Better than Sharam's Dubai, 28 May 2007
Firstly, the other reviewers who said that Disc 2 is crap are very very wrong in my opinion. I would even go as far as to say its better than Disc 1, which has a couple of slightly annoying tracks (like Afterlife) that the other disc doesn't. Disc 1 is a bit more house-y and Disc is a bit more Prog Trance-y. Also, If you're a connoisseur of the 303 then you'll love Disc 2, which uses it to great effect.
But on the whole both are brilliant, and better than Sharam's Dubai which is a great mix too, but has a few more forgettable tracks. But maybe I've just over played it.
A two stage mix, 02 May 2007
To enjoy this compilation you first have to throw the second CD away and forget about it. Then just put in CD1 and enjoy. It's a simply stunning mix, nearly as good as CD2 of GU Toronto. It borrows from all the hot producers of the momment and is a joy to behold.

Sorry!

Computer mixed sonic landscapes, 24 Jun 2005

WOW!, 19 May 2008
I bought this several months ago unwrapped it played it and didn't think it was that good, put it away and never played it untill now!..... WOW! put it on tonight over a glass or two of wine and a takeaway with my girl and both of us thought it was simply amazing!!!!!!!... Very cleverly put together and mixed, really deep quality tunes. You just can't help but be sucked in by the mellow deep trance tunes that turn to beautifull melodic enriched vibes. Its just one of those cd's you put on and find yourself drifting away while tapping your feet or nodding your head its simply sublime... I am a really big trance fan and own loads of excellent mixes collected over the last 18 years and i have to say this is defo up there with the best of them and makes my top5. Buy it now and give it more than one try because its one of the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Deeper Underground, 13 Jun 2004
One word for this: cool. Ali and Sharam mix the funkiest progressive house to make this album worthy of anyone's collection. As with any compilation, some tracks are poorer than others, but overall, Deep Dish in Toronto never loses its cool.
CD1 opens with the best track on it, Louie Vega & Jay 'Sinister' Sealee 'Diamond Life' - with memorable lyrics and awesome beats, it's a great start, but the following two tracks are nothing special. Things pick up again with Electroland 'Drop Beat', but Sultan & The Greek's 'Rezin' hits a brick wall. Next is Cheky & Spider's 'In Love', which I have grown out of love with. Electric Wood feat. Melanie 'Sacred Dance' is very tribal but the vocalist is a bit weak. The rest of the CD ambles along nicely but there's nothing bangin', like 'Diamond Life' or 'Drop Beat.'
Thank God for CD2. What a superb bunch of tunes. Situation 2WO 'Way2tite' samples 'Sunshine and the Rain' that Playgroup also used in 'Pressure', but Situation 2WO does it better. So another excellent start to the CD, but this time, follows through with more funky flavas than you can shake a stick at.
Elisa's 'Time' benefits with amazing vocals - it's really uplifting and great to dance to. Junkie XL & Sasha's 'Breezer' puts a smile on your face with its happy, sunny melody. The best tracks on the whole album are Paul Rogers 'Krafty' and the G-Pal remix. If these don't get your groove on, nothing will. It's hard to pick a fave from the two. The Lowrider's one is a bit dull after the phenomenal first half.
The more notable tracks following 'Part 1' are Knight Keys 'Never Felt This Way' (with another great vocal, this time by a male), The Youngsters 'Break Them Up' (which certainly gets your attention with its odd vocals, even odder strings and phat beats) and Holden & Thompson 'Nothing' (another one with striking vocals). There are a couple of tracks, namely 'Part 1' and 'I Love You', that don't quite hit the mark. Nevertheless, CD2 is very good and is by far the better CD.
Deep Dish in Toronto is achingly cool and sophisticated, but never disappears up its own arse. It's a shame these kind of tunes are underground and don't get into the charts more often. The only track that would be familiar to most is Moony's 'Doves.'
CD1 is a lttle average with only a couple of stand-out tracks, but with the second CD you're spoilt for choice. For this reason, I've given the album 4 stars.
a Stunning mix from two of the world Best Jocks, 09 Mar 2004
Let's just start saying than with any Global Underground you are satisfied when you unwrap it and put it on Play. This one is of course no expection and actually it's one of GU best. The Iranian duo pull a thrilling mix of deep, tribal and progressive house that is never boring and dull. Unlike Moscow here you find sexy house music and less of the coldness of the previous mix. Highlights are the Louie Vega - Diamond Life over Meat Katie's remix of Stephane K - Numb, Maurice and Noble and... well almost everything really. Even chart filler Moony sounds great here. So... second best GU only behind Sasha - Ibiza in my opinion. Get it and then get the After Club special single mixes too.
Best GU Ever?, 13 Dec 2003
I should say first of all, Global Underground has been my favourite mix series by a distance since the first one I listened to several years ago. If it wasn't for me having heard them before on Yoshiesque CDs and some other mixes, I might have been put off Deep Dish by their Moscow mix. I was very dissapointed with it, as Yoshiesque 2 is one of my favourite CDs and I was expecting something similar when I got the GU. The mix was a lot less progressive than I hoped for, I did like some of the tunes, but I felt no feeling in the mix. I was worried around that time that the standard of GU was declining, as I wasn't excited that much by anything 016-022. But Dave Seaman's Melbourne CD I regarded as a return to form, and Nick Warren Reykjavik I considered to be up there with the best in the GU series. I was sure the standard couldn't improve again with the next release, but I honestly believe after several months of listening (during which time I coincidentally visited Toronto) that 025 is a real contender for the best ever GU. I'd put probably only 009 and 016 on a similar rating. Both CDs are superb. CD1 is the best, even though the middle section (tracks 6,7,8) is not to my taste at all. This is because 1-5 is quite possibly the best section of a mix I've ever heard and 9-12 is not far off. "Nightvisions" and "Flying" are two of the best tracks I've ever listened to, the former being a contender for my all time favourite. I had not heard any of the tracks on CD1 before listening to it, and this is the first time I've been able to say that about a GU CD for a while. There are some outstandingly good tracks on CD2, and it got so much use that the original won't play in my CD player without skipping anymore. One track I wasn't keen on at first was the remix of "Work to Do", but I've grown to like it. Playing two remixes of the same track in a row is a brave thing to do in a mix, but it is a work of mastery on this CD. The first mix (original) of "Paul Rogers - Krafty" has also become one of my favourite tunes, and the G-Pal (great artist) remix compliments it perfectly. If track 10 "Never Felt this Way" didn't have worrying sounding vocals during the breakdown then it would definately be the best track on the CD. Actually I've been meaning to check if there's an instrumental version... I love CD2, but there's a couple of fairly well played tunes I'd heard before in it, and I don't think any sections of the mix flow as well as those in CD1. Which is probably my new benchmark for progressive stuff. But I'd still say CD2 is one of the best CDs ever in the GU series. BUY IT, BUY IT NOW! I recently bought the aftermix CDs, haven't formed a proper opinion on them yet, they seem good at first impression though.
deep dish at their best, 10 Oct 2003
Indeed,it's Deep Dish at their very best, and it also,in my opinion, tops the Global Underground releases.A must for every MUSIC lover.Money well spent.

don't give up after CD1!, 11 Nov 2008
