Amazing, by one of the best!, 03 Jan 2009
Trance gets a slating by almost everyone these adays, and it is not fair! This CD proves not only that trance is not dead, but as good, if not better than it ever has been. Sure, trance lost its way a little a few years back, but hasnt every genre? This is a must have CD, mixed by a true master!
Fantastic updated Dance, 17 Jul 2008
Just playing this and I'm so pleased I bought it.
I thought Trance was dead, but Ferry's updated electro-type take on it proves totally refreshing. He has also brought a couple of fantastic artists to my attention eg CD2 Track 3 - can't stop playing it!
Corsten Saves Gatecrasher, 08 Apr 2008
Having been a massive fan of the early Gatecrasher album series this is a welcome return to form hosted by one of my favourite trance DJs.
For me This CD brings back fond memories of Gatecrasher:Wet. on the first few listenings I have to agree with the earlier reviewer that CD 2 is more my style of trance, it really picks up from Track 3 Randy Boyer - Alive, right the way through to the end.
I need to give CD1 a bit more time but I have a feeling this one is going to go down as one of my favourites in the series so far.
More like this please!

The latest offering from Gatecrasher Gatecrasher Sheffield is excellently mixed by one of the worlds greatest trance DJ's Ferry Corsten. There are some amazing tracks on here such as Markus Schulz (cause you know) Solar Stone (Rain Star Eternal) and PAFF (From King to Finch. All in all if you like none commercial trance then this is well worth the money.

I have owned this album a couple of weeks. I've listened to it 4 or 5 times in the car and I must say that whilst the second cd would be the better of the 2. The 1st cd is a real grower. Not that surprising really considering it was a live mix.
I must admit to being a fan of this music and for me Ferry Corsten is one of the best Dj's and remixers in the business. Music wise the cd moves from bangin trance thru melodic trance with a few vocal tunes thrown in. One number is Ferry featuring Howard Jones. Surely not thee Howard Jones of 80's fame. Good tune non the less. Pick of the bunch for myself would be the Solar Stone tune. It is quality and could someone tell me what that sample is out of ? I couldn't get it out of my head all day.
So to wrap up if you like trance music buy this. I just wish I could have caught it live.

Yep Here We Go Again, 26 Nov 2007
Ok so gatecrasher has produced yet annother album with a load of classics on it. Why is this? because actually in europe at least the trance scene is actually far from dead people like ATB lasgo and Ian Van Dahl are still producing stuff theres even a new version of braveheart by DJ sakin and friends anyone here heard it? thought not lol.
One of the reasons though that gatecrasher are getting like ministry is because ministry of sound actually are now responsible for the gatecrasher brand (if I can call it that) and for ministry the dance scene is shifting towards the funky side of house.
Anyway the album. Ive only given it 3 stars because at least some effort has been made to include new stuff and I suppose they need to fill 3 CDs. Sad I know but Sadly true.
hmmm was expecting better, 11 Nov 2007
its a real shame alot of the old tunes that we already have in a pile of stacked cd's under the bed just in a new mix and its a bit of a dull mix really, no flashback athems at all and nothing the other big "ooo look this is old school" dance labels havent done already.
if i were youi would go for a dj sonique club mix if this is your type of house.
just a shame
Yawn.......... oh, is it another album?, 28 Sep 2007
Why do they insist on producing these pointless albums with the same tracks OVER and OVER again?? Gatecrasher are almost as bad as Ministry now - I never thought I'd say that back in '99!
Something Old, Something New, 25 Sep 2007
I've read some of the other reviews and I can't help but comment on the way one review complains that CD1 is the "same old classic's" and CD's 2 & 3 are "some unknown Underground trance..."?
What's basically being suggested is "why don't gatecrasher bring out something new"?
Well, isn't that what CD's 2 & 3 are doing?? yet they are then criticised for not being the most recognisable classic tracks...? While CD 1 is criticised for containing recognisable classics? No Win Situation??
CDs 2 and 3 Mixed by Matt Hardwick and Judge Jules contains so many tracks which are imminently going to be future classics which are being heard in club's throughout the country. A tune can't come out and instantly be labeled a classic... It takes time... Think Anthem by Filo & Peri... it's destined to be a classic and you just can't escape that track (not that you'd want to!)
Anyway......
I was at Magna in Rotherham this Saturday just gone for Crasher's 14th Birthday and it literally blew my mind... I actually bought the CD at the event on Sunday morning as I was leaving Crasher for the drive home at 6.15am...
I enjoyed Jule's set the most on the night so I banged on Disc 3 and it brought it all back... It gives you that tingling sensation everytime you recognise a tune you banged it out to on the night.
I suppose you may look at my review and think the CD is only worth having if you went to Magna, which is not what i'm suggesting...
If I'd had the CD before, I'd still appreciate the music on the CD, I can't name one track that I skip when it comes on...
So Cheers Gatecrasher for the memories!

This is a great compilation; I heard Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip playing in a record shop and had to choose between their own CD or this compilation (its track 3, CD1) - I went for the compilation and I love it! We're having another terrible summer this year so if you want the sound of summer in your own living room then its right here!

A nice surprise., 23 Sep 2007
I was very surprised with this album.
Gatecrasher is currently trying to appeal to the masses and releasing alot of old/commercial trance. The last gatecrasher live (CD02 Scott Bond), was brilliant, so I took a risk with this. And what a breath of fresh air, this is the type of underground trance you would hear in the early morning in a club. Normally you buy the big trance albums (Live AS, ASOT), and you have a number of the same current 'big' tunes. This CD, on the other hand, has only a few.
So not only, does this crasher album play proper trance, but a deep/prog trance, which is rare on a big label.
If your in to trance, and go to the clubs, then this album is for you.
In response to the first review, this cannot be compared to anjunabeasts. Anjunabeats releases are extremely good but a total different genre of trance. Whilst, anujunabeats (worldwide, vol 5), are vey good purchases, they play a much more uplifting trance, yet still non-commercial. This gatecrasher CD has a much more of a club feel.
Gatecrasher Live Moscow, 17 Jul 2007
Not bad, but not quite like the trance being showcased by anjunabeats at the moment.

Not bad, but not massivley appealing for the true Gatecrasher fan, 22 Aug 2006
It does annoy me that they've stuck loads of classics on here- anyone who has the previous Gatecrasher albums (which I have all of, except for the classic ones) will have half these tracks already.
So what's the point of buying it if you already have them? What market are they trying to target? People who have only just started to get into crasher I guess.
The new songs on here are pretty good, but nowhere near as ground breaking and original as the first 10 (yes, TEN!) GC albums. (excluding Digital possibly)
I wish they'd just stuck to the standard GC mould using a good DJ (Scott Bond) who mixes well and chooses new fresh tracks no one has heard of. On this album, no Scott Bond, (or any famous DJ), no massively fresh tracks, average mixing. (compare it to Wet, Red, Black, Discotech, etc and it doesn't come close mixing wise)
However it is ok, far better than the 2 classics albums (which were just money making schemes- why would any gatecrasher fan in their right mind re-buy the songs they already own in a slightly different order??)
My guess is that these recent albums are further and further away from the real club and don't really have any connection with GC anymore apart from the name, like Ministry of Sounds's albums recent demise into commercial albums rather than true albums. You can tell that by the company who distributes them, it isn't the Gatecrasher label anymore.
if you like this album, hunt out all of the other gatecrasher albums- Black, Red, Wet, Discotech, Global Sound System, Discotech Generation, Digital (chilled CD is awesome), Experience, Digital Trance, Resident Transmission 1 & 2, Live in Amsterdam/Kuala Lumpur.
Even tho this album is ok they are far better in every way.
All the above still sound good now 8 years on from the first album. BUY THEM!!
The Best Gatecrasher Album In Ages, 26 Jun 2006
When a compilation brand catches on the releases seem to be neverending. Often this can lead to a little bit of a dip in quality over successive titles. Personally I think this is what happened to the "Gatecrasher" series. However this compilation is right back up there with the quality you expectfrom the brand. CDs 1 and 2 are a good mix of present and older tracks with some good mixes thrown in to liven things up a bit. Both solid and above average. CD 3, however, is mind-blowing good. It starts of by (musically) grabbing you by the neck and fails to let go for it's 15 tracks.
A return to form for the series and a very worthwhile purchase. 9/10

Trancendental, 07 Apr 2008
Judges view, 04 Apr 2008
ABSOLUTLEY HOPELESS, 02 Jan 2008
I ORDERED THIS ITEM ON THE 5TH DECEMBER AND I HAVE STILL NOT RECEIVED THIS ITEM. tHIS SELLER HAS TAKEN THE MONEY AND DELIVERY CHARGE OUT OF MY ACCOUNT ON THE 11TH DECEMBER AND STILL NO WORD. i WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS SERVICE TO ANYONE. aND A NOTE TO THE SELLER, IF I DONT GET THIS CD WITHIN THE NEXT WEEK I WILL BE RINGING UP AMAZONS HEADQUARTERS AND TAKE IT AS FAR AS POSSIBLE UNTIL I GET THIS PRODUCT.!!!!!!!!!
Sad I know but Sadly true. hmmm was expecting better, 11 Nov 2007
its a real shame alot of the old tunes that we already have in a pile of stacked cd's under the bed just in a new mix and its a bit of a dull mix really, no flashback athems at all and nothing the other big "ooo look this is old school" dance labels havent done already.
if i were youi would go for a dj sonique club mix if this is your type of house.
just a shame Yawn.......... oh, is it another album?, 28 Sep 2007
So Cheers Gatecrasher for the memories! come for Dan Le Sac, stay for all the rest!, 28 May 2008
This is a great compilation; I heard Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip playing in a record shop and had to choose between their own CD or this compilation (its track 3, CD1) - I went for the compilation and I love it!

It's very easy to go overboard on a review like this, but this album really IS that good. Three CD's divided by themes, packed with songs from the last 10 years while massive club hits most of them have also been in the top 20. They've not taken the easy way out and picked songs that were top 5 hits in the last few years, but in fact they've gone back and I've found myself listening to certain tunes thinking 'I never thought I would here that again!'. If clubbing in the late 90s was your thing you will love this album. The songs are well chosen, logically ordered for maximum continuation and flow; and they haven't sacreficed any quality to try and get 'hit records' into the mix Tunes to take you back, 10 Nov 2005
Rememeber buying Gatecrasher Black and playing it over and over again in your CD player. Well the good news is, you'll do the same with this complilation. You'll start saying 'remember when we heard this tune'. It really is a passage through the late 90's and early 00's. Was it really 1999 when you were listening to these tunes? Still sound so great. It may have been mixed by a computer but the Gatecrasher people did the honourable thing and filled it with some class music. Second CD is really crasher at its best. Well worth a buy. Think the second compilation is cashing in but this first one is great.
Pretty Good, 05 Aug 2005
As people have said, it's a fairly great compilation of songs. But this is Gatecrasher; it's a clubbing thing. One of the main experiences in a club isn't just the songs you hear - more importantly is the way in which they pop up, the way they're mixed, the way they sound. OK, it's computer mixed and that's a bit of a setback, but personally, there's actually another thing which annoys me slightly with the third disc in particular. When music's being mixed (with decks), the pitch (thus speed) of the record is often increased slightly. Firstly this is because the records have to be beatmatched, but by shifting a song up a tone or so and making it faster, it just brings it to life a bit more in a club. Some of the songs on here are more or less Radio Edit versions. Olive's 'Your Not Alone', although a great song, is almost painfully slow on here. But that's nitpicking I suppose. If you just put this on either in your own home, or at a party, it will go down a storm. When I had it on quite loudly in my car though, the sound quality wasn't as clear as I'd have expected a CD to be. Not that there was any muffling or crackling, but it just seemed that there wasn't quite enough distinction between the basslines and the euphoric synth or high-hat trebles. I wish I didn't have to write that, but it was something I noticed so I feel it's only fair to tell it. Yet once again it really is something minor and shouldn't be taken too great notice of - as a compilation, this album is fantastic and will bring back smiles and memories. It would seem though that it is, as you'd expect, not tremendously overwhelming in comparison to a Gatecrasher club night itself.
Souless and disappointing, 02 Aug 2005
It's difficult to know where to begin concerning just how "flat" and uninteresting this compilation is. There appears to have been little effort made in structure of each disc; tracks do not overlay in a meaningful and interesting way; there's little tension between builds and breaks. Basically, the album is a cut 'n shut. It's not that the tracks on the album aren't good -- they're brilliant -- it's that the order they're presented and the way in which they're mixed is just dull. For something with this much potential, Gatecrasher Classics fails utterly to capitalise on what could have been an inspiring and uplifing retread of some brilliant dance moments. Instead, it's a completely pedestrian, "by the numbers" best-of -- which to all intents and purposes might as well have been called "Smash Hits: Dance!" or some other such nonsense. A real shame.
quality!, 01 Aug 2005
this cd is amazing!! too young to have been there when all these songs first got played over the last year or so tho iv been collecting most these songs on differnet cds , then gatecrashers comes out and its basically a collection of all my fave tunes! barbers adagio for strings , ayla, mystery land, chicane - offshore, silence . . . and loads more spread over 3cds! even if u only know one song listed on the back of the cd BUY IT. you wont regret it.

A real shame.
quality!, 01 Aug 2005
this cd is amazing!! too young to have been there when all these songs first got played over the last year or so tho iv been collecting most these songs on differnet cds , then gatecrashers comes out and its basically a collection of all my fave tunes! barbers adagio for strings , ayla, mystery land, chicane - offshore, silence . . . and loads more spread over 3cds! even if u only know one song listed on the back of the cd BUY IT. you wont regret it.
slagged off album?, 27 Apr 2006
Superb album, better than the 1st and that was damn good too. after reading previous reviews slagging this album for being outdated, well thats what this album is all about, it caters for those old enough to remember and appreciate the best days in trance history REGARDLESS of whether you the buying public own any of the separate tunes on this album, previous trance albums released by other trance labels have put a few dozen decent tunes on their albums and then the rest have been crappy, unlike this album where each and every tune is superb. basically its ALL the BEST tunes on one album, making it the best trance compilation album released to date. (in my opinion!)
All your happiest memories in a black box, 20 Jan 2006
Try listening to this on headphones in the office without rocking like an abandoned schizophrenic. If you've retired from clubbing, for the welfare of your children, do not buy this album - you are predisposed; Pavlov would be proud.
If you don't own the original albums..., 29 Dec 2005
Despite a sudden glut of 'classics' albums, I can honestly say this would come near the top of the pile. I think though, some people are actually treating it as a "Gatecrasher" album, which is a bad idea. That, I can explain..
Remember Gatecrasher Black? The second cd blew everyone away with its incredible trance, and the album is still seen as the best in the series. You compare that album to this, and wonder "yikes, whats going on?" After all, its been mixed by a computer, some of the songs are pretty commercial, and many songs simply don't suit the album (e.g Finished Symphony - on Crasher Wet, stunning. Here, a summer song doesn;t make sense..)
So, you just have to treat it as what it is. A classics album. No dj's involved, no 'heart' or soul, yet all the songs take you back. You don't treat it as true crasher album, instead, just an album to take you back, with the tunes you lost it to, like The Vision, Born Slippy, and Shine. Thats all.
So, if your unlucky and haven't been able to get your hands on the original classics (Gatecrasher Black, Red, Wet, and Disco-Tech) from the 1998-1999 era, then this may just about do, yet it is only a taster. Its a great winter album, but the only true crasher albums out their are the originals, which were just breath taking.
Who will actually buy this?, 14 Dec 2005
It is a good CD, great tracks, and ok despite the computer mixing, yet who is going to buy it? People who like Trance/House will already own 90% of these tunes. People who don't own these tunes probably won't like it enough to buy it. And there are hundreds of other "classic tunes" CDs out there. If you are one of the few people that doesn't already own half these tracks you won't go wrong with the album. However, tranceheads are wasting their time.
Cant beat it!, 12 Dec 2005
All you need to know about this album is that its the doggys danglys. Got into dance few years ago then progressed to trance and i love all the classics. There isnt a cd on the market i would rather buy then this one at the moment. P.S. Dj Tiesto - absolute legend.

Trancendental, 07 Apr 2008
Judges view, 04 Apr 2008
Sad I know but Sadly true. hmmm was expecting better, 11 Nov 2007
its a real shame alot of the old tunes that we already have in a pile of stacked cd's under the bed just in a new mix and its a bit of a dull mix really, no flashback athems at all and nothing the other big "ooo look this is old school" dance labels havent done already.
if i were youi would go for a dj sonique club mix if this is your type of house.
just a shame Yawn.......... oh, is it another album?, 28 Sep 2007
So Cheers Gatecrasher for the memories! come for Dan Le Sac, stay for all the rest!, 28 May 2008
This is a great compilation; I heard Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip playing in a record shop and had to choose between their own CD or this compilation (its track 3, CD1) - I went for the compilation and I love it!
9/10 Excellent, 18 Nov 2005
