Yet another 'best of' album..., 17 Feb 2006
There have been numerous 'Best Of George Benson' compilations over recent years, none of which have been all-inclusive (that is a probable marketing ploy). This re-packaged selection continues the trend; having said that, it does serve as a pleasing introduction to the superb fusion jazz/R&B/pop that Mr Benson serves up masterfully.
Beware, edited tracks, 27 Aug 2004
"The Greatest Love Of All", one of Benson's greatest performances, has an entire verse edited out on this CD, a shameful fact which degrades an otherwise attractive collection of songs, representing the best of George Benson. A fine artist, at his best when singing songs written by Micheal Masser I feel, "Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You" "In Your Eyes" "You Are The Love Of My Life" "Greatest Love Of All" all of which are presented on this CD.
The Greatest Album of All, 27 Mar 2004
I am glad I bought this album. The songs are lively and lightened my spirits to hear. There are 20 songs, and the CD itself has a cover over it for protection. I love track 1) Give me the night, 5) Nothing's gonna change my love for you, and 11) You are the love of my life. My favourite since childhood is track 6) The greatest love of all, and since last year 10) In your eyes. All very lovely songs by a talented artist named George Benson, who has a good voice. Buy this cd if you like love songs or good pop and jazz music. It's an album that is definitely one of my favourites, and currently my most favourite.
Brilliant album from a brilliant artist., 28 Jul 2003
This album from start to finish is one of brilliance. Provides excellent background music for any occasion. But was there ever any doubt that this would be a great album when it's George Benson.

Fabulous! I've not heard much of her lately but then I played the CD,s. I cannot think of a bad track. I find that I keep repeat playing most of the tracks I find it hard to move on. What is apparent throughout is the great playing from the band. Its great value and one that is being exclusively played in my car. Well worth the purchase, 07 Apr 2006
I don't know a great deal about Randy Crawford's music, though I remember her big hits (i.e. 'Street Life', 'You Might Need Somebody', 'Almaz' and 'One Day I'll Fly Away' - all of which are included on this double CD), but I'm so glad I bought this CD. Pure listening pleasure song after song - I can never work out why people like Randy Crawford, Dorothy Moore and Ruby Winters were not given the credit they truly deserved. Superb voices, equally brilliant songs - and such delivery. Do yourself a big favour and buy this CD today - you won't regret it. I certainly didn't. Come back Randy - show the 'singers' of today what a real soul voice should sound like! Double-CD of music by under-rated American soul singer, 08 Jun 2005
Randy (born Veronica Crawford) is a brilliant American soul singer who had a UK top five hit (Street life) as un-credited vocalist with the Crusaders in 1973, then had two UK top five hits (One day I'll fly away, Almaz) in the eighties as a solo singer. Randy never achieved this level of success in her homeland. Apart from those three major hits, Randy had two other UK top twenty hits (You might need somebody, Rainy night in Georgia) and several minor hits, all of which are included here, these being Imagine (a live recording), He reminds me, Last night at dance land, Secret combination, Nightline, Give me the night, Diamante (with Zucchero) and One hello. Most of the songs here are originals but, with her outstanding voice, Randy is a great interpreter of other people's songs, as this collection shows with her covers of such classics as Knocking on heaven's door, At last, This old heart of mine and What a difference a day makes as well as Imagine. This comprehensive collection truly is the very best of Randy Crawford, one of the finest soul singers there has ever been.

Sunshine in music form, 02 Jan 2008
I love Herb Alpert. The best known stuff on this album are the likes of the superlatively bouncy Spanish Flea, the sublime A Taste of Honey, the energetic Tijuana Taxi, Tetris theme Zorba the Greek and of course the theme to the original Casino Royale (the one with David Niven) which is so clever it hurts. But there's nothing on this album that doesn't delight.
Mostly it's instrumental, brass band work and very good brass it is. Like a Mariachi band. It's jolly and fun, and it gets me in a good mood and that makes it pretty fab stuff.
Happy Childhood Memories, 10 May 2001
I was delighted to get hold of this album, which I did via Amazon in the U.S. Playing this Herb Alpert and his hits CD, particularly the sixties inclusions, has brought back much nostalgia and happiness, as his is the sort of music that used to boom out of my mum and dad's tinny transistor radio at home about 30+ years ago when I was a small(very small) child!! The album is beautifully presented, with reminiscences by Herb on the sleeve notes, about each of the 20 included tracks, and pictures of each HA and Tijuana Brass album they originally came from. Sound quality is first-rate, I assume most of the earlier tunes, being digitally enhanced to suit modern ears? Like me, I'm sure most Herb Alpert fans will like in particular, the classic 'Mexican Shuffle', 'Tijuana Taxi', 'Spanish Flea', 'A Taste of Honey' and 'Casino Royale' and the beautiful and rare vocalled, by Herb, 'This Guy's in Love with You', written by Bacharach and David and his joint biggest UK hit. The later stuff on the album is also top class. My favourites including 'Rise' and 'Keep Your Eye on Me' from 1987, one of his last UK hit singles, that also produced a classic video, in the 'Sledgehammer'(Peter Gabriel) special effects mode, that is well worth seeking out. 'Diamonds' his final British hit to-date, has a great vocal by Janet Jackson, and is also included on the album. Though far from being a really definitive collection, how could it be, from a man who's has been recording for around 40 years?? Herb Alpert's 'Definitive Hits' is complete enough, to give you a real feel of the man and his music. Buy this album if you remember him and enjoyed his music first-time-around. If not, still buy it, and get to know the wonderful instrumentals he and his band produced throughout the 1960's, the odd classic vocal number too, and see how the man evolved with the times, to produce some great late-seventies and eighties dance music.
We have waited so long ... Herb Alpert has been forgotten., 20 Apr 2001
Wow! At long last a new Herb Alpert CD back in the shops. I have searched half the world's record shops for anything other than a bargain bin copy of Titjuana Brass, and it's sad to report that most record shops these days have a whole new generation of staff that have never even heard of the man. This new "Greatest Hits" album goes a long way to make up for Herb Alpert's now sadly long deleted back catalogue; it's just a shame it doesn't offer more. Surely a 2cd or 4cd set would have done us proud? Most of the album concentrates on the old brassy lounge/lift music period, which is fine if you're that way inclined, but once the strains of "Rise" and "Rotation" come up you want to cry out loud: "Herb Alpert, where the hell are you now?" Please come back! This could have been a great album with a longer tracklisting, but even as it is it's still as welcome as breath of fresh air.

perfect to create a wonderful mood, 16 Oct 2008
This is an amazing album by Kenny G. If you are a fan of Latin music or not, you have to listen to this. It has great tunes, very relaxing, chilling, and creates a warm, sensual, and magical atmosphere. You can tell it is Kenny G without hesitation, it has the fluent, addictive and smooth touch to it. My favorite is Mirame Bailer, it is the best title on this album. This is a must buy, great music, great Rhythm, and it is Kenny G, so you won't regret it.

Randy Crawford has one of the most distinctive voices in the music business and who better to do a jazz album with than the legendary
former-Crusader,Mr Joe Sample.
The album is wonderfully laid-back but is never bland and a wide range of material is given superb arrangements
This a very cool imprint on the whole project and repeated listenings often find new subtleties in Joe Sample's piano playing.
The great thing about Randy Crawford is the sheer joy she conveys with her singing and it is infectious.
A quite wonderful album.

This is a great example of beautiful vocals from Randy Crawford, and Joe Sample's piano playing works really well with these arrangements. You will know most of these songs but with the quality of the artists and the recording itself you will hear them in a whole new and fresh way. Definitely recommended.
Classic jazz, played and sung with love, 08 Jun 2007
I am a long time fan of both artists since the 'Street Life' days. This gentle but beautiful set is a real showcase of the talent on offer, revisiting some old favourites but breathing acoustic new life into them. Some may say its cocktail lounge stuff but they would be too ignorant to hear the differance.Buy now, play in ten years, it will sound just as classy!Late night jazz for the quiet storm.
Perfect album!!!, 05 Dec 2006
Perfect acoustic jazz album, amazing two jazz giants duet with fantastic musicians! I'm Joe Sample fan, he is unique jazz pianist and Randy is real jazz nightingale!
Randy's awesome return, 22 Sep 2006
While I've always enjoyed the beauty of Randy Crawford's voice, sometimes the quality of the tracks recorded to showcase it have been disappointing. This is not the case with this fantastic CD. The sparse musical background helps you to really appreciate the fantastic vocals. Randy's voice is as clear as ever and if you enjoyed the recordings she was making at the time of Street Life, One Day I'll Fly Away..etc.. then this is a must for you.

The return of Mr.Benson!, 18 Nov 2008
I once had Bensons'Greatest Hits and listened to the album over and over again..Then I gave it to a man I loved, cause he loved him aswell.
That love is gone now, but my love for Mr.Benson is as srong as ever.
This cd holds all the songs I've once had, eccept one(Living inside your love)That's fair enough.
Beautiful, don't hesitate to buy it if you want a complete album!
Miranda Yet another 'best of' album..., 17 Feb 2006
Re discovered a STAR, 31 Oct 2006

Hot Afro-beat at a hot price, 31 Jul 2005
South African exile Hugh Masekela hit an artistic height in the Seventies when he returned to Africa and became close friend with Fela Kuti, the originator of the Afro-beat. This collection covers the best of 3 albums recorded in 1971-76 in a style that spans rock, disco, funk, afro-beat, highlife and jazz with the inspired trumpet of Masekela piercing through. Highlights are many: the exuberant opening track, the pleading Mama, the funky Witch doctor and the title tracks of 2 albums, The boy's doin' it and Colonial man. At this price this collection is a real steal.

Product Description
Like its predecessors, Kenny G's Breathless is a collection of tuneful, easy-listening instrumentals baited with a couple of pop-soul vocal numbers. This album is built on Kenny G's most obvious strengths: his knack for writing hummable pop hooks and his ability to play those radio-friendly melodies in a breathy, fluid style that invites the listener to lie back and relax. When it comes to background music that's slightly catchier and peppier than most new age music, Kenny G is a master of his genre. The titles of Kenny G's instrumentals on are a good clue to his approach: "Sentimental", "The Joy of Life", "Forever in Love" and "The Wedding Song". Sentimental, in the sense of simplifying life to a set of comfortable feelings, is a good adjective for Kenny G's music, for even his wordless instrumentals push the listener's warm glow buttons while ignoring anything more complicated. The saxophonist himself programmed many of the drum, bass and keyboard parts on Breathless, contributing to the sense that everything's running on autopilot. --Geoffrey Himes

The soundtrack to a permanent vegetative state., 04 Jul 2008
Enjoy taking the lift? Love a good long wait on hold? Find your toes tapping to the radio in the doctor's waiting room? Feel the urge to dance in the Cleaning Products and Binliners aisle in Morrisons? Then you'll love the insipid, soulless faux-jazz muzak of Kenny G.
Thinking about buying this (or any other) Kenny G record? I'll save you the effort; everything he's produced consists of irritatingly sharp pentatonic runs up and down, interrupted occasionally by a wavering, poorly-controlled long note followed by one of his half a dozen twiddly licks. Repeat until you feel the urge to vomit up your own lungs. This is a record of soul crushing dreariness, a reminder of just how suffocatingly vacuous some human beings are. 'Music' of this calibre would be disappointing from a young player still finding their direction, but Mr Gorelick has been playing for well over thirty years and seems to have utterly failed to develop as an artist.
Amazon's Bargain Jazz section has a whole host of classic albums for less than a fiver that are everything 'Breathless' isn't - insightful, enriching, innovative, vital, spiritually nourishing and worthy of your time and money.
I prefer my jazz with substance, 01 Jun 2007
I don't know how Kenny G gets classified as Jazz, but as far as mindless background music goes, this is not too horrible.
Breathless - Kenny G's best, 25 Feb 2004
It is easily Kenny G's best album to date. Each track is a masterpiece and listeners will find a 'mood' for every track..Its got a bit of everything.... ENERGY (The Joy of Life, GBop) VOCALS (By the Time This Night Is Over, Even If My Heart Would Break) LOVE (Forever in Love, Wedding Song) SENTIMENTAL (Sentimental, Alone, End of the Night) and much much more. Though most of the tracks are from his older albums, Kenny G has taken care to pick and choose the best tracks to fit into Breathless. This is truly a masterpiece. A MUST MUST BUY.... :-) The more I listen to it, the more I love it...
MELLIFLUENTLY MELLOW..., 19 Feb 2003
This is a wonderful CD, with music ranging in tone from the poignantly bittersweet to the sweetly joyful. The soothing refrains of Kenny G's sax makes for a very mellow, relaxing listening experience. If you love beautiful music, then this is a must have CD. For those critics who say that this is not jazz, I would agree with you. It does not mean that it is not worthy. Open up your heart to its beauty, and stop being so pompous and hung up on labels. This is a CD well worth listening to.

Re discovered a STAR, 31 Oct 2006

Wonderful, 10 Sep 2007

Too Many Covers, 04 Nov 2007
Of the 27 tracks on offer here a minimum of 11 are covers and some of the originals are from way back ie Grover Washington and Earl Klugh before the term Smooth Jazz had been dreamt up.
Dont get me wrong you get great musicians here and side one showcases some of the very best including Boney James, Rick Braun, Pieces of a Dream, Fourplay and the Rippingtons, where the CD falls down is side two where 10 0f the 13 tracks are from 1980 and before and would have probably fallen into the Jazz Funk category.
If you are looking to try a smooth jazz album I would recommend hunting down old Jazz FM compliations which are going very cheap on this site eg 101 Eastbound a penny, a bargain with more upto date artists.
A collection of the smoothest sexiest tunes, 14 Jul 2004
I have numerous jazz albums, but this one has to be the best, every single track is fantastic, a great blend of smooth instrumentals and vocalistic heaven. If you buy only 1-jazz album make this it! You will not be dissapointed. It kind of makes you drift away to a very sunny paradise somewhere on a beach in Miami, and then pulls you back in to a smokey jazz bar in New Orleans. Great stuff.

There have been numerous 'Best Of George Benson' compilations over recent years, none of which have been all-inclusive (that is a probable marketing ploy). This re-packaged selection continues the trend; having said that, it does serve as a pleasing introduction to the superb fusion jazz/R&B/pop that Mr Benson serves up masterfully.
