Truly professional, 07 Dec 2007
Having just heard the CD, I am warmed by the quality of ALL the tracks, the singing is beautiful and sung so professionally.
If you are looking for a traditional Carol CD, then I would definately recommend this one, Perfect Christmas Escape, 13 Dec 2003
Settle down in a comfy chair with a mince pie and glass of wine and turn up the volume - pure escapism from the hassles of Christmas shopping! The collection mixes traditional carols (so you can sing along and relive those days in the choir) with slighly lesser known Christmas fare. As you would expect of King's, all the carols are extremely well executed and with over 76 minutes of playing time you've got the chance to pig out on a good few mince pies. Bliss!

Refreshing Change, 18 Nov 2008
After years of listening to the usual American performers/crooners on every Christmas c.d. I could lay my hands on, it's been a great pleasure to hear the traditional English style of singing used to such heart warming effect. Playing this c.d. on Christmas day is going to make myself and my family feel right at home.
Great Traditional Christmas Tunes, 11 Dec 2007
Realy good album of christmas carols, different because its in a traditional folk style rather than choral.
I really enjoy it.

A little gem of a cd; there are quite a few songs that I had never heard before which makes it a change from the normal Christmas carol compilations - though for all I know they may be Celtic (or Irish) standards.
The instrumentation, as one might expect from the title, includes harps, pipes whistles and guitars as well as strings and is very nicely done; as someone else has remarked the effect is otherworldly in parts, and in others I find it attractively 'ancient'.
I would thoroughly recommend this cd as something to listen to in it's own right or as background music whilst putting the tree up, which I suspect is what most people would want it for.
An absolute snip at the price too !!
different, nice but a bit twee!, 01 Dec 2007
I have this album, it's ok, there are a couple of nice tracks, some very odd tracks and some that are a bit twee - ~It is an 'irish' cd, but not as good as clannad, enya, moya brennan.
It's ok for Background Music.
I would rather listen Moya Brenan's Irish Christmas!
EXCELLENT AND UNUSUAL, 21 Jan 2001
what an excellent c.d.! this is no run-of-the-mill christmas album. the selection of songs is unlike any other, and the music and singing are other-worldly, transporting you away from this mortal sphere. the only thing that could possibly be better would be for enya to put out a christmas album! i'm buying copies for all my family for next christmas. i'd recommend this c.d. to absolutely anyone!

If you enjoy Reggie then you would feel that this album would offer you the excellence in Christmas music. It started with dreary renditions of several much loved carols. The casio keyboard music effect did nothing to enhance it. Further along the album at Track 16 there starts to be a big improvement and I would say to buy it for this part alone!

Product Description
Brought together more by accident than design in the late 1980s, the relationship between Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band has been on/off but one that has produced a series of fascinating albums. Despite secular works, it is for their Christmas collaborations that they are best known, especially the riotous seasonal tours (pantomimes and all). This outing took place in 1997 and spawned this live album, which leaves the capers behind and concentrates on the music. The usual clichés are firmly avoided in favour of the more obscure, with even familiar carols such as "Away In A Manger", "Ding Dong Merrily On High" and "I Saw Three Ships" presented on medieval instruments and in unfamiliar arrangements. Prior is in fine voice throughout, suited perhaps more to this style of music than the folk rock of Steeleye Span, and the Carnivals approach their task with gusto. Those looking for a studio album should try Carols and Capers which, like this release, proves that there is much more to Christmas music than Noddy Holder. --Phil Udell

Fabulous sound, wonderful mix of tracks, music that really sounds like the family singing round the Yule Log. Maddy Prior's voice has never been more sound or reliable. Especially excellent is the first track - but all the tracks are just so singable!! This is mulled wine and open fire music to really set the scene for the festivities, and no collection should be without it.

Outstanding Christmas album, 08 Dec 2003
This is the sixth in the series of special Christmas albums dedicated to raising money for the Special Olympics, but this one is very different from previous albums that generally featured pop and rock music. This album, as its title suggests, features acoustic country and bluegrass music. As far as I know, all the recordings are new although some of the artists have recorded their chosen songs previously. Many of the songs here will be familiar to you but the simple acoustic settings featured here allow the singers to bring out the true meaning of each song The set opens with Reba singing a great version of Silent night. Reba previously recorded this for her first Christmas album, Merry Christmas to you, in the eighties. On that occasion, she did a spoken introduction explaining how the song came to be written but she did not repeat that on this new recording. Dan Tyminski does a sparkling version of Frosty the snowman, on which a couple of children (James and Julia Knobloch) sing backup on the word Stop. Willie Nelson proves that he still has what it takes with a fine rendition of Please come home for Christmas. Alan Jackson is brilliant on the rarely recorded Just put a ribbon in your hair, an excellent Christmas love song. Alison Kraus deviates a little from the acoustic concept on her own song, Only you can bring me cheer, although it is a brilliant recording. Marty Stuart is next on Even Santa Claus gets the blues, which is a great song that he wrote himself. Earl Scruggs contributes an instrumental version of Jingle bells. Ralph Stanley sings Christmas is near, a song he wrote and first recorded as one of the Stanley brothers. Patty Loveless is a classy singer who is in her element on this type of album as she proves with one of the finest renditions of O come all ye faithful that I've ever heard. Wynonna began her career singing acoustic country as one half of the Judds and shows that she can still do that type of music with an excellent version of O holy night. Pat Green, a singer new to me, sings Winter wonderland. Sam Bush provides the second and last instrumental on this album with his version of Let it snow. Ricky Skaggs reminds us that he can still record quality music on Away in a manger. Rhonda Vincent treats us to Christmas time at home, a great bluegrass song that she wrote herself. Tift Merritt does an excellent and very distinctive version of I'll be home for Christmas. Pop-jazz singer Norah Jones sings and plays piano on the final track, Peace, without any other accompaniment. This is an outstanding collection that will give all fans of acoustic music a lot of pleasure as well as benefiting a worthy charity.

ONE OF THE MOST UNDERRATED CDS EVER, 19 Sep 2008
Only a few words from me: this is amazing. I had simply no idea about this cd's existence, until I ran into it by pure luck. Never had any air time or attention over here in Europe, but from all that Ms. Newton-John produced, this may be one of her best. And from all the Christmas CDs that I've heard in my lifetime, definitely the best. I would even go so far, that it may not be 'just' a Christmas CD. From the original songs, a few are real gems, potential classic hits, that one can relate to also 'outside' the Christmas time. It's a shame, this CD is not available in Europa through the regular channels. One can only ask what other majestic things Mrs. Newton-John has in store for us in the time to come. Happy listening!
magical , 20 Oct 2007
another wonderful cd by olivia and amy sky it is difficult to choose a favorite as they are all wonderful and the interludes are also wonderful but i have to say that the track every time it snows a duet with jon secada is fantastic it will bring tears to your eyes also christmas on my radio a 50s style song with a doo wop beat should be on the radio if you want a christmas cd get this cd a christmas wish if you loved olivia`s last cd grace and gratitude you will love this it is another olivia newton john and amy sky magical masterpiece .

This is how Christmas should be., 24 Oct 2001

Great DVD, 19 Mar 2003
Contains all their hits : quit playing games, as long as u love me, get down, we've got it going on, anywhere for you, shape of my heart, everybody, all i have to give, more than that, I'll never break your heart (U.S Video) , i want it that way, larger than life, the call. Infact the only one it doesnt have is Drowning which was a shame! but it's defintely a compulsory DVD to add to your BSB collection if your a big fan! There are no interviews on this DVD, only video's to their music singles.
Memories Are Made Of This!, 06 May 2002
Backstreet Boys: The Greatest Video Hits is something all BSB fans will want. This DVD comprises of all their UK hits, ranging form their first video 'We've Got It Goin' On', right up until 'More Than That'. The only let downs to this DVD is that their most recent hit, 'Drowning' is not included, even though this DVD was released after 'Drowning's' release and also it only has the USA version of the 'I'll Never Break Your Heart' video. Unfortunately, the original, European version is nowhere in sight. Other than that though, it is a fun trip down memory lane, bringing back fond memories of when each video came out and what was happening around the time. This DVD includes moving menues and Dobly digital sound. Each of the video's is set under the album they came from, so for example, if you like the video's from the 'Black & Blue' album, then you would go to the 'Black & Blue' menu. It is a great layout. It is a must have for any BSB fan but it is strictly for BSB fans. If you're not into BSB as much as others and you do get bored with them, then this DVD is not for you.
BSB ARE TRUELY THE BEST!, 23 Jan 2002
The Backstreet Boys are just truely the best group around to make it through seven years together in the pop world! In this DVD you see the early videos of when bsbs first started and till now and you can see how much they've grown and matured and vocally into fine, young very talented five young men!Even though the 'Drowning' music video wasnt on it, I still give this five stars cos Backstreet Boys are just simply the best!!!!
Bless the Backstreet Boys!, 16 Nov 2001
This collection of the Backstreet Boys hits on DVD is definitely a must have. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was that the 'Drowning' video is not on it, strange but true. Nevertheless it's great to see how the guys have matured over the years and of course to listen to the great music whilst watching them at the same time!

Celtic corker, 08 Dec 2007
